The Invitation (I) (2015)
3/10
Disappointing film.
19 June 2016
I was looking forward to watching it after the "raving" reviews here, but came off feeling really unsatisfied. The acting was good, but the script and dialogue sucks.

Had to wait for way over an hour before any real action starts. Even so, it left me with lots of questions unanswered. There were nearly zero tension building up to the finale. I can never understood how people find suspense in it. It would be nice at the end if Eden was the one to explain why it came to be that way. If there were some explanation, at least the film would be saved even if i had to wait over an hour and the last scene would be really horrifying instead of tons of question marks (????) floating above my head.

A very unsatisfactory film. 3/10 for the acting and the Charles Manson's family like killing at Sharon Tate's. But do not be mistaken by the comparison, because this is less graphic and with absolutely no explanation.

The Originals (2013–2018)
10/10
Congratulation to an awesome show!
18 May 2014
Just finished watching the season finale, and it has me pining for more. I was really happy the first time i heard about a spin off that focus on the Originals. And it definitely never let me down.

It's more adult, none of the teenage sappy romance and whiny characters. It doesn't show near nakedness every single episode either (like how TVD has "degraded" to), but instead gave us a great storyline where all the characters, no matter how small they were, became a star in their own rights.

The power struggles among the different factions (witches, vampires, werewolves and even humans.) Everyone of them were significant and important to the story. It helps that each of them were really good in their acting abilities. It's like you are witnessing as a first person view through all the conflicts going on.

It is a story about the Originals, yet unlike TVD (Elena and the Salvatore Brothers), the story did not focus on just them. Each factions were important in contributing to the story, so much so that it became impossible to focus on one without the others.

I had my misgivings of Hayley and the baby. But trust me, continue the show and it will reward you. It will show you a side to Klaus that you had never seen before.

I am glad that they created this spin off. TVD has wasted their full potentials in expanding their characters. What you see in TVD about the Originals is just a very tiny speck of their characteristics and personalities. I was absolutely blown away it all. Like i said, they made you feel like you were right beside them witnessing everything.

Lots of cliffhangers, so be prepare to yearn for more after each episode. It has you guessing till the end. Enemies could turn out to be your comrades, comrades can become your enemies. And when you thought you had them figured out, they might switched sides again. Lots of loyalty, wars, internal struggles, fights, plotting, faking with each other. It's no wonder (now that i think about it), i could hardly recall any of them sleeping (unless they were knocked out)

Season 1 is a gem, i hope they can continue this way. Can't wait for season 2 to start!

Do not believe the high rating for this show..
30 May 2011
It is just that awful. The only reason i watched the whole show was because of the high rating here. There wasn't any chemistry between Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattison. Although it wasn't Reese Witherspoon's fault. Why some of the reviewers think Robert Pattison gave a marvelous performance is really a wonder. He's not acting, he was just being himself. Just search for his interviews on youtube if you don't believe. The storyline is bland (if there was any), other than Christoph Waltz and Jim Norton, i don't feel any of the other characters believable. Film dragged on for too long. How i hope the animals at the end would just kill them all. And like some others said, the elephant was (or still is) definitely tortured to perform tricks like that. Shame on the stars who performed in this film. If you enjoy being tortured by a slow and pointless story, then this is the film for you. Otherwise, there are better films out there. I wish i could take back that 2 hours of my life or at the very least not trusting the high rating from reviewers here. Oh, another thing, what cinematography were people talking about? Everything were closeups. I didn't see a single spectacular view.

A great zombie show
22 May 2011
I'm a fan of horror movies, and Devil's Playground is really not as bad as to deserve less than 5 stars. It's definitely above average. I have seen a lot more worse zombie flicks. I like the storyline and most importantly, this movie managed to keep me on tenterhooks. When the new testing drug, that was made to enhance physical performance failed and turned the 29,999 testers into athletic zombies. Cole (the mercenary), under the last plead from a dying scientist has to find Angela in time. As she was the #30,000 tester unaccounted for and most likely was immune to it. Ignore the negative reviews here and watch the show for yourself (That's what i did and i have no regrets).

Blindness (2008)
10/10
A great movie. One of a kind.
28 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I love this movie. It was thought provoking and sure the rape scenes left me uneasy, but what made it uneasy was done subtly from the director by not showing you the whole rape scene, but more like showing you a bit and left it dangling there, and your mind works out the rest.

What some people failed to understand about the movie :

1) Julianne's character is immune to the blindness virus.

like all kinds of diseases, virus and such likes, there will be 1% of the whole world population being immune to each. And yes, that include AIDS

2) Why Julianne's character failed to use her sight to gain an advantage?

It was quite clear that if she had a choice, violence is the last thing on her mind. Most of the time her husband was the one who lead, If she had to be pushed to the very edge before attacking back, then it's obvious she didn't even want to attack in the first place as it might put other innocent people in danger. Be reminded of how Ward 1 mentioned that a war will break out if they put up resistance. It's only when it was obviously confirmed that all guys in Ward 3 were complete scums that Julianne started thinking that attacking might be good after all. I remember reading somewhere that she actually wanted to attack the villain during the way to Ward 1, but was forced to abort it when a gun was pointed at another lady beside her when he forced Julianne to perform fellatio on him. During the 2nd rape scene, regardless of whether anyone was armed, it might still be tough for her to walk in alone and tried to attack the villain and thus risking been overpowered by the rest in the ward. It's men against a woman (remember the part where she got some food at the supermarket and how easily she was overpowered by others?) Especially when you can see how tight the spaces were in the ward. Heck, she barely made it outside after the attack. And that was just pure luck, where the stabbing made a complete chaos in the ward and gun shots were fired that further plunged the men into confusion. Even then, she had other women around her to further confused the men. It might be near impossible for her to do it alone without any distractions, especially when the naturally blind man was able to sense her even when the rapes was going on.

3)Why the men in other wards failed to stop their women from going?

The situation in the quarantine building is like a prison, where the guys in ward 3 were the guards and the rest prisoners. They put fear in them (the gun and the promise of punishment dealt to disobedient), lower their self esteem (by forcing them to hand in their possessions for food), and lastly their dignity and pride(the 3 days of low to no supply of food - surmounting to the rape decisions- coupled with the long period of lack of food throughout their stay), try being a position of all the above, and tell me you are man enough to stop the ladies in your ward from going. Bear in mind that they are strangers after all.

4) How the gun get into the building?

There is not a single scene in the movie that showed anyone of them being checked for weapons or anything. Instead the doctor was asked politely to hand his mobile phone over before the ride to the quarantine center. So we really doesn't need a rocket scientist to tell us how the gun get into the building. (seriously..)

5) No emphasize on why the white blindness was caused and how it cleared up?

Erm, i really don't think this is a movie about that. Its more about human nature when forced to a breaking point when under lots of physical and psychological tortures. And since it's obvious the director wanted the film to be thought provoking, to much explanations might kill that idea. The overall idea i get from the movie is that man can easily changed into another person after prolonged exposure to trauma like experiences and situation.

6)Why weren't there any tests done on anybody in the wards?

Since this white blindness disease/virus is a new thing. And not knowing how they spread, they have to take more precautions before attempting any test? maybe they meant to test them and look more into it at a latter time, but didn't get the chance because it spread pretty fast. But then again, this is not about the disease itself so much so as trying to portray human nature when a change in the balance of our life as significant as that happens.

So yeah, i really like this movie, so i'm giving it a 10. I live in Singapore, and i have seen how people overreacted to SARS when it first started. Covering their mouths and quickly walked when some stranger near them sneezed or coughed, stocking up on food at home, And it wasn't even that wild a virus. But what if SARS is highly contagious? Able to spread in under a few hours? To everyone except the 1% world wide population of people who are immune? I'm sure the panic and chaos would be really crazy. So who could really blame the guards in the movie for overreacting with the threat of shooting those who tried to get near them when little or none is known about the white blindness disease/virus.
