I am in absolute awe
29 April 2004
I am in absolute awe of this wonderful film. the cinematography is just the beginning. In my humble opinion there has never been a more beautiful plot. The acting is superb. Jim Carrey pulls off the dramatic role once again. Kate Winslet redeems herself as the love interest/girlfriend and Kirsten Dunst's expressions tear holes in your heart. The writing on this movie is just as surreal as the writers previous hit 'Being John Malkovich' and all things considered, if this movie doesn't get some oscar nods, the academy needs to look again.

I have to go back in all my voting and change all my previous 10's to 9's.

This movie's rating IMHO is an eleven!

This movie just became my favorite movie of all time.

If you haven't seen this movie yet, please do so. It is a work of pure beauty.

Ghost Reader (2001)
10/10
Wow.

Very good, and dark short. The camera work is wonderful, especially the scene of the ghost reader peering over the mezzanine-type staircase. I was in the audience when this short premiered, and everyone loved it. It's not often that gems like this come along. Check it out.

Porno-music vvideo craziness.

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER. Do pornos really need this warning? Anyway.

Wow. A porno that has a theme song. A moderately good-looking woman sings an ?erotic? song while people have sex to the beat of the music, followed by the best french maid scene you'll ever see!

I saw this movie once....ONCE!
4 May 2003
This is the kind of movie that makes you want the hour and a half of your life back. This movie should be in every film class to show new directors what not to do. I saw this movie over a year ago, but as hard as I try, and with other reviews I've read cannot think of a single redeeming quality, other that the ability to MST3K the Hell out of it.

Howard- The Duck, Yeah!
4 May 2003
I loved this film. Admittedly, it isn't very well written, but it's fun! Lucas produced it which means you're gonna have some comic book campiness, which is ever-present. The action scenes are neat, I think, with the story just as neat. Nothing great about this, but I have fond memories, and still try to get Howard the duck in the Hall of Fame at my local 24-hour Movie marathon. Willard Huyck's last movie, but then again, you don't put a bunch of midgets in duck costumes in Cleveland, and expect to be allowed to continue making movies.

Best intro ever
4 May 2003
The movie sucks. Yes, it does, but I rated this movie highly based on one thing. The HUGE laugh you get when Abraham is introduced into the film. All throughout the movie there is a slow, deep ominous overtone, but when the camera cuts from a horrific scene to Abraham's first shot, SUPER HAPPY MUSIC PLAYS, and he walks around like he can hear it!!! Also he's looking away from the mansion, then he turns to it like 'oh here it is,' then grooves up the sidewalk and proudly proclaims, "I'm lookin for my chick."

Very funny. A bit off-tone, but hey, its an old horror flick. Do they have a tone?

Response to top ten list.
29 April 2003
Warning: Spoilers
MAJOR SPOILER!!! PLEASE SEE FILM AND READ OTHER GUYS TOP TEN LIST FIRST!

Did you bother rechecking your top 10 list?

10. The characters are caricatures. They are meant to be. They are very genuine. Watch the film again. Maybe you'll understand.

9. The plot is a straightforward plot. It has a twist at the end and is very unique.

8. Something wrong with the character? I think it was strangely appropriate. It gives insight to Willem's character.

7. 60+ rounds? Each gun holds 8 bullets. 8*6H. And why not? It was a good thirty foot gunfight. Have you ever shot a gun? Pistols are short range weapons. Very realistic.

6. Gee, if they had killed him, it kinda would have taken out the ending, huh? It's called a plot device.

5. They draw reference to the amazing chance of that happening two minutes later when they're joking about how stuff happens in the movies.

4. a) Adrenaline. b) He knew they would take him outside. c) They were yelling, so he knew what side of the bldg. to go to. d) How hard is it to drop something on a guys head? e) Four stories. They have people survive jumping off the golden gate bridge. Not to mention he fell ON the Russian, and was limping for the next few days. This was the most realistic scene in the movie. Come out of your cave.

3. She wasn't dead. She fainted. The guy wasn't American. He was italian. The line was a character device.

2. They don't take over their own court hearing and kill the witness. They take over the Mafia guy's hearing and kill HIM. This was very obvious. The other guy must've been dozing.

1. Willem is gay, and he uses his disguise to infiltrate the place where he knows the brothers are held. This is a plot device too, because The Duke doesn't kill women. He thinks Willem is a woman after he gets out of the bathroom and only knocks him out, leaving him alive to participate in the final scene. The way he turned toward their cause is explained in the confession scene earlier in the movie.

Thank you. Shane

Warning: Spoilers
Possible spoiler, if you've never heard of it.

I just wanted to chime in and say that there is a reason that this film is one of the top 100. It is unlike any other. I heard about it from a girl I worked with and was amazed when I saw it. This movie reminded me of a Choose Your Own Adventure book, like back in grade school. Innovative, fun, emotional. Just when you think it's over, a new possible outcome occurs. I was blown away by the genius of this film.

Better action scenes than the Matrix
27 April 2003
Just saw it at a 24-hour movie marathon and loved it. Rich story, intense action sequences, and a near puppy killing to bring the emotion to a crescendo made this movie my favorite in a long time. I don't remember it getting big hype, but neither did Boondock Saints or Donnie Darko, but they're great. Anyone who rates this any less than a seven apparently wasn't watching the movie.

Awesome flick. Simply Awesome.
27 April 2003
I'm not sure what that other guy was watching, but this movie had a ll the makings of a great flick. Willem Dafoe, star that he is, plays an excellent character, but every character is well rounded and personable in this film. The brothers are played by two of the best young actors in Hollywood. Rocco is a great character. Plus, this movie tugs at the heartstrings toward the end, and fifteen minutes before you were relating to Rocco's druggie-bitch girlfriend. Check it out for yourself. This movie isn't rated highly for nothing.
