Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
I am in absolute awe
I am in absolute awe of this wonderful film. the cinematography is just the beginning. In my humble opinion there has never been a more beautiful plot. The acting is superb. Jim Carrey pulls off the dramatic role once again. Kate Winslet redeems herself as the love interest/girlfriend and Kirsten Dunst's expressions tear holes in your heart. The writing on this movie is just as surreal as the writers previous hit 'Being John Malkovich' and all things considered, if this movie doesn't get some oscar nods, the academy needs to look again.
I have to go back in all my voting and change all my previous 10's to 9's.
This movie's rating IMHO is an eleven!
This movie just became my favorite movie of all time.
If you haven't seen this movie yet, please do so. It is a work of pure beauty.
Ghost Reader (2001)
Wow.
Very good, and dark short. The camera work is wonderful, especially the scene of the ghost reader peering over the mezzanine-type staircase. I was in the audience when this short premiered, and everyone loved it. It's not often that gems like this come along. Check it out.
Ultrasex (1987)
Porno-music vvideo craziness.
SPOILER. Do pornos really need this warning? Anyway.
Wow. A porno that has a theme song. A moderately good-looking woman sings an ?erotic? song while people have sex to the beat of the music, followed by the best french maid scene you'll ever see!
La mansión de los Cthulhu (1992)
I saw this movie once....ONCE!
This is the kind of movie that makes you want the hour and a half of your life back. This movie should be in every film class to show new directors what not to do. I saw this movie over a year ago, but as hard as I try, and with other reviews I've read cannot think of a single redeeming quality, other that the ability to MST3K the Hell out of it.
Howard the Duck (1986)
Howard- The Duck, Yeah!
I loved this film. Admittedly, it isn't very well written, but it's fun! Lucas produced it which means you're gonna have some comic book campiness, which is ever-present. The action scenes are neat, I think, with the story just as neat. Nothing great about this, but I have fond memories, and still try to get Howard the duck in the Hall of Fame at my local 24-hour Movie marathon. Willard Huyck's last movie, but then again, you don't put a bunch of midgets in duck costumes in Cleveland, and expect to be allowed to continue making movies.
Horror Hospital (1973)
Best intro ever
The movie sucks. Yes, it does, but I rated this movie highly based on one thing. The HUGE laugh you get when Abraham is introduced into the film. All throughout the movie there is a slow, deep ominous overtone, but when the camera cuts from a horrific scene to Abraham's first shot, SUPER HAPPY MUSIC PLAYS, and he walks around like he can hear it!!! Also he's looking away from the mansion, then he turns to it like 'oh here it is,' then grooves up the sidewalk and proudly proclaims, "I'm lookin for my chick."
Very funny. A bit off-tone, but hey, its an old horror flick. Do they have a tone?
The Boondock Saints (1999)
Awesome flick. Simply Awesome.
I'm not sure what that other guy was watching, but this movie had a ll the makings of a great flick. Willem Dafoe, star that he is, plays an excellent character, but every character is well rounded and personable in this film. The brothers are played by two of the best young actors in Hollywood. Rocco is a great character. Plus, this movie tugs at the heartstrings toward the end, and fifteen minutes before you were relating to Rocco's druggie-bitch girlfriend. Check it out for yourself. This movie isn't rated highly for nothing.
Lola rennt (1998)
Wow.
Possible spoiler, if you've never heard of it.
I just wanted to chime in and say that there is a reason that this film is one of the top 100. It is unlike any other. I heard about it from a girl I worked with and was amazed when I saw it. This movie reminded me of a Choose Your Own Adventure book, like back in grade school. Innovative, fun, emotional. Just when you think it's over, a new possible outcome occurs. I was blown away by the genius of this film.
Equilibrium (2002)
Better action scenes than the Matrix
Just saw it at a 24-hour movie marathon and loved it. Rich story, intense action sequences, and a near puppy killing to bring the emotion to a crescendo made this movie my favorite in a long time. I don't remember it getting big hype, but neither did Boondock Saints or Donnie Darko, but they're great. Anyone who rates this any less than a seven apparently wasn't watching the movie.
