Left with no answers!
6 February 2022
Season 1 on the whole was good, the first few episodes were great but the next few were very boring and I nearly didn't bother finishing, it however did pick up and the last few episodes were great, however the finale was incredibly disappointing leaving you with absolute no answers! I understand the need to have a cliff hanger to tie you into watching next season but this was infuriating, no answers, no idea where the show is going, doubt I'll bother with next season.

"Classic zombie gore-fest!"
21 November 2011
Plot Summary A group of Norwegian medical students take an Easter ski vacation to a cabin up in the mountains near Øksfjord and are having the time of their lives until an unexpected evil knocks at their door.....Nazi Zombies!

What I thought of it I expected a serious approach to the zombie genre with this one, especially it being a foreign subtitled film, which is exactly what I got for the first part of the film.

However after about the first 45 the movie goes from '28 Days Later' to 'Shaun of the Dead'. Now we get intense gore and classic zombie comedy with zombie's being attacked with chainsaws and weapons alike. Throwing all logic out the window except the classic rules of zombie films the group go all out to kill and escape the hoard of blood thirsty Nazi zombies chasing them down the mountain side.

Director Tommy Wirkola used many of the classic horror skills in this movie and editing. He created many great effects using intense light and dark contrasts which added great suspense to the movie and genuine fright to the viewer.

Summary I think this film is one to watch especially by all those who love classic zombie horror with some new modern touches. This film gives the viewer some great laughs and is well worth renting if not worth being a new addition to your collection...... 6 Stars*

"One of Scorsese' best!"
17 November 2011
Without doubt this is one of my favourite films of last year, so here is my review, enjoy!

Plot Summary Shutter Island, adapted for the big screen from the book by Denis Lehane, is the story of U.S Marshall Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) who is sent to Shutter Island, a spooky looking, fog covered island home to a mental institute for the criminally insane. He is too investigate the escape and disappearance of an inmate at the institute along with the help of his partner Chuck (Rufallo).

What I thought of it I must admit, I'm quite the fan of Leonardo DiCaprio, a lot of my favourite films have him in ('Departed', 'Inception', 'Catch Me If You Can' etc) so I was quietly confident that this was going to be another great of his especially as, like 'departed', it was directed by Martin Scorsese.

All of my pre-conceptions were true when watching this, both DiCaprio and Ruffalo give great memorable performances. DiCaprio's role turns out to be a very dark role, in which his character is struggling mentally with so much, not just with the job at hand but also the loss of his wife in an apartment fire. Throughout the film these thoughts going through his head get harder to ignore and completely change the character, which DiCaprio portrays exceedingly well.

Both actor and director do a fantastic job of messing with our emotions and feelings in this film, really making us draw strong opinions of certain characters, of which often change throughout the course of the film.

Summary Many people have criticised and labelled this film as being a typical DiCaprio film with a predictable and obvious ending, I must disagree! This film has some great twists and turns of which I expected none, and the performances given by all of the actors involved are some of there personal bests.

I would definitely give this film a watch whether your a fan of DiCaprio or not, this may change your opinion.... 8/10 Stars

"A beautifully portrayed story of hell"
17 November 2011
Now I know this film has been around for a while now and I'am ashamed that its taken me such a long time to get around and watch it, but here is my review...

Plot Summary Based on the book of the same name, written by author Giles Foden, this is the story of a young Scottish doctor who travels to Uganda to help local communities and ends up getting stuck right in the middle of Idi Amin's Regime.

What I thought of it Having seen old reviews of this film I did have an idea of what I was in for when I pulled it out of my collection and sat down to watch it, yet it still impressed me.

I must admit that before watching this film I did do a bit of research into the subject just to get an idea of the setting and history etc.

I am very pleased to say that director Kevin McDonald has done a very good job of getting Idi Amin's true behaviour and methods across onto film with sensational acting from Forest Whitaker. I had no doubt that Forest Whitaker would do brilliantly in this role as he has in the past but he really does give, in my eyes, an Oscar winning performance matched only by that of James McAvoy who played Amin's physician.

On a whole the acting in this film is of a very high standard as is work of the director and the whole crew. Everything from locations to editing have been done well and add a great feel to the film.

The only bad things I will say is that in the film, we don't really get a great idea of what the people of Uganda were going through at this time, the violence and such that they were living in, which I feel is a great shame as this really would have made our feelings towards Idi Amin and the countries people much stronger, whether they be good or bad.

In Summary Overall I think this is a truly brilliant film in both story and acting, the cast, specifically Forest Whitaker really knew there role well and played on this fantastically, giving great insight into the life of Idi Amin and his closest friends and colleagues.

I recommend this film to all, a definite must-see film.....7/10 Stars

The Rum Diary (2011)

"Are they not complimentary?"
17 November 2011
Plot Summary Now if your the sort of person that needs a definitive story line and thick plot to enjoy a film then this probably isn't for you. Its more a 'fly on the wall' view of a young journalists struggles in a failing newspaper. Paul Kemp(Depp) is a young man trying to make his way in a new place, making new friends and enemy's along the way.

What I thought of it I wasn't sure what I would think of this film, I new it has some great actors, such as Johnny Depp and Giovanni Ribisi, but the concept of the film was a strange one. I was pleasantly surprised, the director Bruce Robinson has done a great job with this film, which was always going to be a very tough job being adapted from a novel by Hunter S Thompson and technically having next to no strong plot.

The film itself is stunning, the locations are amazing and well shot, and the editing style and shots work brilliantly with the type of film and more importantly with Johnny Depp, who has a massive screen presence in everything he does, including 'The Rum Diary'.

This film has everything I want to see in a good movie, strong characters, great sets and brilliant comedy, along with meaning. It really makes you think about society and life nowadays and how primarily, nothing has changed in the way the world goes round and the sort of corruption and manipulation that still goes on today all around us, as it did back in the fifties, only less obviously.

On a lighter note, this film is hilarious and great to watch more than once, there is something rather satisfying about watch a man drink huge amounts of high octane rum and have to deal with the consequences the next morning, something that makes you happy its not only you.

Summary In all I thought this was a very enjoyable film for anyone to watch and have a good laugh at while loving everything about the characters. The acting is scintillating and exciting.

I highly recommend this film to all, one to watch ..... 7/10 Stars*

Fantastic! brilliant true story everyone will relate to :D
4 November 2010
From start to finish this film has you hooked constantly, its the brilliantly told true story of the social network everyone's heard of.

Jesse Eisenberg gives yet another amazing performance in a film which seems oddly made for him! He fits his character description perfectly and you really believe his role in the story itself.

Not only is it a great, entertaining film of the hard work Mark Zuckerberg went through to get the site up and running and the legal challenges he faced, but for any user of Facebook it is great to see the story behind how it came to be such a major part of our lives.

If your thinking what I was as I entered the cinema, ''is Justin Timberlake going to ruin this movie?'', then you'll be pleasantly surprised. He gave a really exciting performance, one anyone could enjoy, and really understood his character.

For those of you who love to see large amounts of action in the films, then this probably isn't for you, but anyone who wants a good, entertaining and and fun story with some fantastic performances, this really is a MUST SEE.
