Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999)
One of the best shows on TV - must watch!
The best part about SVU is that each episode has it's own unique style and can range from political to religious, personal to international and by no means at all do you have to wait until the season finale for an amazing episode. Episodes range from their worst as good television to their best as absolutely phenomenal. The dramatic writing is great (the comedic usually consists of not-so-subtle puns and one-liners, but that's to be expected), and the acting is prime: Olivia and Elliot are a powerhouse duo and Hargitay and Meloni play them with passion and purpose. I'm surprised they haven't won more awards than they already have. Supporting characters and guest actors are consistently great too.
Even though its in its 11th season, the stories are still new and exciting and must be watched!
Angels & Demons (2009)
Don't believe the bad reviews!
I would definitely recommend this movie - don't listen to the bad reviews in all of the newspapers: these are the same people that hate Dan Brown's books so why should they like any movie based off them?
Angels & Demons was an overall good movie. Here's the rundown:
1. Captures the excitement of the book with great actions scenes and tense chases
2. Fantastic cinematography - many beautiful and awe-inspiring shots that are exciting and satisfying
3. Solid acting - nothing special, but certainly not distracting
4. Leaves the philosophical mumbo-jumbo to the book - sure, the movie adds in its little tidbits of religion vs. science but it doesn't try to make a big deal out of it
5. Good music - typical Zimmer stuff but very well placed in terms of scenes
6. Yes! moments - Howard definitely delivers the most intense/exciting scenes from the book with a satisfyingly similar atmosphere to the book; some things were obviously left out but it all seemed to work out because the movie felt like it was a good length.
So overall, it was an enjoyable, exciting, satisfying movie to watch. I highly recommend it!
N.B. Reading the book beforehand added to the effect of the movie instead of detracting from it.
