The Apparition (2012)
What's in a name? A lot
The name of the film is The Apparition, however, I have not seen any apparitions. I can tell that it's supposed to be a male but, well, we are not shown him.
All of these weird things are happening..."A rift between our world and theirs." Um, this is NOT an apparition. This is something else. Honestly, I thought I would get some type of explanation of apparitions. You know like why and how my missing grandmother could show up our house and just "be there". She didn't say anything. She was there, we were frozen staring at her waiting, for what I don't know...we just stared and she gazed back, no emotion on her face but I could "feel" she was angry at my mother, really angry. Anyway, she was there, just like she was for real but then she disappeared. She wasn't there, she was there staring, then she wasn't there anymore. The end.
It wasn't a dream or a hallucination, we all saw her. Remember, she was missing? Well, her body was eventually found and after some questions we found out that at the time she appeared at our house she was dead or very near to it. Additionally, my grandmother was evil or mad or both....if that makes a difference....
Anyway, with the title of this film, I thought I could revisit this experience in my life and at least someone else's vision of what it looks like and perhaps what it means.
Well, no - this movie is a lot of special effects...things that I don't even associate with apparitions, poltergeists maybe...The only thing I found intriguing is the concept of energy, electrical or emotional...in it's desire to alter our physical world. Yet again, this has nothing to do with apparitions - it's a poltergeist...so there it is.
poltergeist
noisy spirit: a supposed supernatural spirit that reveals its presence by creating disturbances, e.g. by knocking over objects
This movie's title did not match the story. This makes me think that the experiment is most likely true and the story is true. Giving the movie a title like this was supposed to be clever I suppose. Was the story good?
It is alright...the scientific experiments should have been showcased more. However, the concept that the entity is taking people is ridiculous based on the data in the movie itself...maybe the full premise ended up on the cutting room floor...Oh well...view as complete and utter fiction. The actors are NOT appealing so casting sucked. "Malfoy" narrating is no Vincent Price.
Looking at the movie I thought: What is happening to the descendants of those who killed the Native Americans, the buffalo, and enslaved the Africans not to mention what they did to members of their own families. Have all these souls just gone away? Would they not be some very powerful poltergeists...I would think so. What are they doing now? Now that's a movie/story I would like to see.
I would title it "Pay Back". I know it's not a paranormal title. I'll have to think about it more...anyway...Watch "Apparition" but don't expect to be blown away by this story as it is.
Stone (2010)
A Window
This movie is a window into a life that most people don't know about; the inner workings of a man's soul. It's dark in there. There is ugliness there. There are no values, thoughts, inspirations within a man's soul. There is misery and confusion and carnal lust. ....Then at the end of the day, everyone goes away.
First, you have a white inmate in Detroit, trying to be black. My friend asked me was he some kind of rapper - Seriously. Edward Norton usually plays the neurotic geek - heavy on the neurosis - so him playing a white guy acting black, braids and all is saying....what? That white guys acting black are psychos. No argument with me there... I love the personal growth of Stone, (Ed Norton), this was the very best storyline within this movie.
Secondly, I loved the wife of Robert DeNiro's character, when she was drinking and started cursing just out of the blue - I fell off the couch and had to rewind that part. This is rare, I didn't see this coming...so of course, I loved it!! Good job!!
Lastly, this movie is the type of movie that changes as you change. I saw this movie last year and came away with another perspective. Well it's been a while and I watched it again with a friend and "saw" something else completely...I'd like to think I am a deeper thinker now...(patting myself on my back)...Anyway, it's a great story therefore a must see.
He Who Finds a Wife (2009)
Women "Eat IT" yet again
I really thought that this would be a great story from a female perspective or at least an honest perspective. Being cheated on myself more than twenty years ago, I wanted to see if there would be familiar aspects or not. Well, there were not. This story depicts the woman taking the higher ground - it's been done to death. All men are incapable of being adults? Really? Women just have to persevere through whatever situation a man serves up to them with poise, discretion and faith. Hell to the NO! Men and women are to be held accountable for their actions. Acting like it's invisible only makes the situation worse and the karma more intense. If there is any love one should call the person out for inappropriate conduct. Period. Needless to say, I am VERY disgusted by this film for it's attempt once again to have women thrown under bus, disrespected and disgraced in the name of GOD. Whatever.
The Least of These (2008)
An Amazing Surprise!!
I had no idea what I was in store for when Virgil (my partner) brought home this DVD... Virgil had fallen asleep so I settled down with a bag of Lay's chips and a glass of Dr. Pepper to watch "The Least of These" starring Isaiah Washington...needless to say I am writing this review as I was riveted to this story and fell uncontrollably into simple yet acute adoration for all, even Jason, in this cast. I have two sons of my own, and a grandson so I am a bit biased...but please know this story really touched me in a way I have not felt in a long, long time...Thank you to the producers and the cast as well as all the souls who brought this project to completion - God bless and keep each one of you and your families and friends.
