Doomsday (2008)
So Gutted By This
terrible terrible movie....im a huge neil marshall fan....the descent i think is just a truly incredible film....and im also a massive dog soldiers fan so i went into this film with extremely high hopes however i don't think I've ever been so let down by a film....it was just bits and pieces of other films poorly coppied and pierced together...i just didn't see the point of either whilst watching it was so distracting to be noticing the films Marshall was taking bits from...noticing all the references to Mad Max and the bits taken from 28 days later....i just think it was generally a poor film....the script was just dull and kinda pointless....it had so many plot holes i lost count....the acting was dreadful....especially malcolm mcdowall who just came over sounding all weird nothing else...just generally a poor poor film....for all those out-there who want to watch a good neil Marshall movie go and watch the descent i promise you will not be disappointed....but avoid this movie at all cost
Run Fatboy Run (2007)
not the best brit comedy but okay nevertheless
i thought this would be a little better, i was a bit disappointed by this, i just think it could of been better, but don't get me wrong i thought this was okay, just thought it could of been up there with Hott Fuzz, but it falls just short, however i think it may be a bit unfare to comapre the two, so looking at the film by itself i think its okay it has a few moments that make you smile, the story isn't great a bit predictable though especially the ending, i thought it was good though i thought simon pegg was really good and probably elevated the movie a bit if im honest, especially during the training scenes, David schwimmer's direction was good i was pleased he didn't take a cameo in the film, for me that would of ruined it because it would of been too much of a gimmick for me, but for David schwimmers directorial career this film is a really good start, and i cant wait to see what he moves onto next, so yeah would deffo recommend this, very much worth a watch
Captain America (1990)
Cheesy But Not as Bad As Batman and Robin
im not gonna sit here and justify this movie cus it cant be its crap...however if you like cheesy film (and i do) then its so cheesy its actually quite good....the effects are weird the acting is terrible and the story is poor and really weird and full of plot holes, however for some strange reason i cant fully comprehend i enjoyed it....i love these cheesy films....that aren't delibertly bad....but just cus they were cheap and couldn't afford better actors and sets...the film goes in a strange direction and i like films like that for some strange reason i cant comprehend, it isn't a movie i can really recommend but if your a fan of movies such as "Plan 9 from outer space" then this is your movie you'll love this....if you hate movies like that and your a fan of transformers and modern action movies then i'd probably avoid this one i think
Meet Dave (2008)
not the worst comedy in the world
i didn't think it was that terrible but at the same time i don't think i'd watch it again, its perfectly okay, but nothing about it that makes it memorable and there are certainly no massive laughs in it, just a few moments that occasionally bring a smile but thats about it really, but following a few terrible eddie murphy comedies i think this is certainly a step up for him especially from movies such as Daddy Day Care, sure its not an instant classic but if you want a movie where you can just turn your brain of for an hour and a half then this is your movie, and in a world that is filled with appalling disgusting gut wrenchingly bad comedy movies such as "Date Movie", "Superhero Movie" and "Disaster Movie" i think this movie is certainly a much needed step up for American comedies, yeah so would recommend this but not if your after an intellectual comedy film
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
Terrible Terrible Terrible
just thought this was truly truly horrendous....the only positive thing i can say however is that Harrison Ford is actually really really good in it and is in fact very convincing as Indiana Jones, so i just don't understand all the criticisms of him. for that matter everybody in the film is really good...Catie blanchett is over the top but however i think thats a good thing as i think all the villains in the indy series are and i think she fits in brilliantly and she did a really good job, i even thought Shia Le Bouf did a fab job....however this is where the positives end....i just thought the rest of the film was just unwatchable it was horrendous....the script was nothing short of disgraceful....it felt like a really really bad x-files episode....it was just awful.....really boring.....tonnes of plot holes....just empty and devoid of a good story which motivated the other indy films....who yes they had the action but also had at the heart an excellent engaging script which this film is devoid of....if i had to give any advice it would be really simple....watch the first 3 over and over again i believe there classic mastepieces of cinema....this however isn't....just terrible plain and simple
Eden Lake (2008)
OK But Not Really For Me
i don't want to be too harsh on the movie, but it just wasn't for me really. I'm a big horror fan, but im a fan of what i personally believe to be classic horror, im not a fan of the new torture horror (saw, hostel etc), i just don't think its scary and i think its lazy film-making in my opinion, it feels like they cant think of anything interesting to do i know lets just torture a character, i just think sometimes its uneccessary, i know people may think that im not a fan of the genre, i am i just think torture horror, that is devoid of all scares, is kinda pointless and thats the feeling i got watching this, im all for movies pushing boundaries and challenging audiences but not when at the sacrifice of the quality of the film, just look at 28 Days Later for example a good brit horror, that doesn't resort to this torture tactics of Eden Lake, but on the reverse side of this if you are a fan of this type of movie then Eden Lake is for you, if you are a major fan of Saw and Hostel, then Eden Lake is going to be one you will enjoy.
[Rec] (2007)
Just Brilliant
I cannot possibly say enough things about this movie, i thought it was utterly fantastic, for me personally it breathed new life into the zombie genre, that has suffered from too many poor attempts in this genre, for me though this is up with the best in this genre, for me its good enough to rival Dawn of The Dead, i just thought everything in the movie was fantastic and very well thought out, i just loved it, and i thought the cloverfield style filming only added to the suspense of the movie, OK the first 5 mins aren't the greatest in the world but just stick with it and the film picks up after this. I think sometimes zombie movies go too over the top with the gore, and neglect too include moments of suspense and real scare moments, Rec, doesn't do this,it has genuine moments of real suspense that manage to keep you guessing until the final moments.
