Rollerball (1975)
E. ticket (Jonathan E.)
I was a teenager when I saw this movie for the first time at the Cinerama Dome in Los Angeles and my head would duck real fast each time that one of those chrome cannonballs was shot out of those big guns into the gutter on the upper rim of the track. It was so realistic to me that I was dodging the chrome cannonballs from my theater seat, very bitch-en film-making. Corporate executives keep changing the rules of the increasingly violent sport of the future in an unsuccessful attempt to eliminate the greatest player of all time. I like the theme that... "No man can be bigger than the game itself" ... No man, except for... Jonathan E. , Rollerball Champion! Jon--a--than, Jon--a-Than, JON-a-THAN, JONATHAN!!! I left the theater so pumped up and so fired up, I was ready to kick everyones ass! Too bad I was just a shrimpy queeb back then that couldn't kick anyones ass, oh well.
The Game (1997)
The one to beat
This movie starts off like an idle running car engine and increases in excitement steadily accelerating to a full roaring jet engine and then goes "pop" at the end like an orgasm. I stood up after seeing it on the small screen (at home on video) with my mouth wide open and said "That's the best one I've ever seen". I'm not the Lone Ranger, many others agree with me. I've heard a critic say that it's "too much to swallow". No it's not, It's a movie, It's fiction, It's supposed to be a stretch. I say if you just go along with it, "The Game" will stimulate your adult mental palate like no other movie, it's like great porn, but for your head, not your little head. There should be a golden arrow that rides along the ceiling of all the video stores through all the different sections (horror, sci-fi, etc.) right up to a special little shelf with "The Game" on it that just says "The one to beat", Until there is one better...
The Adventures of Mark & Brian (1991)
Brilliant, give 'em 95.5 out of a possible 100
Unlike so many other Southern Californian's (not to mention almost everyone that is famous), I've never been lucky enough to meet Mark & Brian but I've listened to their show off and on forever and these guys are something special. This TV show was simply too far ahead of it's time, I watched every episode and I was entertained every second. Brian Phelps is naturally one of the funniest people you'll ever hear speak and his partner Mark Thompson has one of the neatest voices of all time (we're talking "Gene Hackman" cool). Together the Mark and Brian radio show and The Adventures of Mark and Brian TV show are so unique and original that you can't compare them to anything else. They have done thousands of great things, while giving to everyone along the way, and making us laugh the entire time. One of their most notorious radio moments was when they buried one of their friends (for fun) in a planter, and parked a bike in his bare butt. Isn't it called comedic genius when people are still laughing about something years later? This multi-talented hard working team is in a league all by themselves, at the top. Thanks to Illinois and Alabama for sending 'em over, because of 'em California has been a lot cooler place to live for the last 20+ years.
