Maybe too dark.
25 April 2020
Definitely a different type of movie, but it is very well acted. I think the story could have been less violent and would probably be better for it. Not a movie I would watch a second time. It is entertaining but limited in its appeal.

Yesterday (III) (2019)

Refreshing and likeable.
21 April 2020
Enjoyed watching Yesterday. I found it refreshing, and sometimes you just need something different. The story is intriguing, but it lacked a bit polish in the script. Still it was a fun movie but as others has commented could have been a far more developed and complete movie.

Rubbish movie
20 April 2020
Hate it when you have high hopes for a movie but it turns out to be a dud. The story is strange, the script is awful and the director needs to get off the drugs. Movies are just not what they used to be unless they have a superhero.

A great movie, a great cast and a great story.

How George Clooney did not win the Oscar for his role as Micheal Clayton is beyond belief. The movie is so well made and the acting exceptional. By far the best of 2008.

Quality, Respectful and Entertaining.
3 January 2015
The quality of the acting and the production is first class. It is s well directed movie, hats off to Russell Crowe for his directorial debut. I really enjoyed the fact that the movie showed respect to the cultures depicted and kept things on a level playing field. During the screening it was very clear to me the audience was won over and totally engrossed in the movie, just as I was. Watched allot of movies in 2014, but this one is of a higher standard all round. This movie has the potential to be nominated for awards and any it wins would be well deserving. Special mention to Dylan Georgiades who was a delight to watch in the film. I rated this movie a 9/10, and I hope it is successful as it deserves to be, Russell Crowe has done it again.

The Runaways (2010)
9/10
Highly recommend, great acting and brilliant music
14 September 2014
The Runaways were part of the hard rock revolution and were an all female group. The movie is the story of Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and how she created "The Runaways" with Kim Foley (Michael Shannon) as their manager. Along the way they recruit Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning) to be the bands lead singer and face. This is a very realistic look at how drugs (alcohol included) was part of the bands daily life and eventually their downfall. Joan Jett continued after the Runaways disbanded and became a major force in hard rock music throughout the 70's and 80's and still performs today. The Runaways music is some of my favourite music of all time and in the movie Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart actually sing in the live music scenes. I am a fan of Dakota Fanning and Micheal Shannon, but I did not know too much about Kristen Stewart, who is a fine actress and I look forward to seeing more of her work. If you are a lover of hard rock, watch the movie and listen to the Runaways discography. I was thoroughly entertained by this movie.

Sleepers (1996)

Great Cast, Great Story, Great Director equals Great Great Great Movie
14 February 2013
I rate Sleepers with The Shawshank Redemption and October Sky as the best movies I have ever seen. The story is compelling and the characters and actors portraying them feel real. The direction is flawless but paced to ensure we the audience feel the various emotions depicted throughout the film. It is one of those rare movies you will enjoy more when you see it a second time. A special mention for Vittorio Gassman who plays the role of King Benny, one of the finest acting performances in the film which says a lot when you look at the cast. I do not think this movie received a single Oscar nomination. Maybe the content was considered too disturbing? Sleepers is a masterpiece and deserves a 10/10 rating.

American Pickers (2010– )
10/10
Great show, great characters and it is a learning experience.
27 September 2011
I love this show. American Pickers is one of the best reality TV shows to come out of America and even rivals my favorite reality show, Bargain Hunt from the UK. Mike and Frank whilst they seem a little over the top for us Aussies, simply love their job and their passion shows. In a strange way it is a bit Abbott and Costello-ish but that is the beauty of the partnership. Add Danielle who is holding the fort whilst Mike and Frank are away and the team is complete. The characters they meet in their day to day travels picking are the heart and soul of America and every nation. Some of the collections they unearth are to be envied by us all. But the true gem is the fact we learn about the history of the items they pick and the companies that made them. If you read this and have never watched the show I hope this inspires you to have a peek.

Avatar (2009)

Good but not great.
24 January 2010
When a movie generates this much excitement I like to analyse the screenplay and here we have an indigenous injustice and a love story intertwined using amazing effects set in a futuristic alien world. This allows poetic license for Cameron to wow cinema goers with new environments, creatures and aliens. But where he was smart was the concept of transposing humans into the new environment as one of the aliens through avatars. This will keep Cameron on track for the first billion dollar budget movie in the not too distant future. But what I realise is that there are so many bad big budget movies made nowadays that a good one can become conceived as great. Avatar is good but certainly not great!

Brutally honest and very powerful - Best Movie of 2009!
24 January 2010
I rate this movie the best of 2009 and yes better than Avatar. This is a very powerful and disturbing look at society and the way it is evolving in poorer areas/estates in Britain. This brutally honest depiction allows Michael Caine to play an avenging role induced by circumstances that can be only described as barbaric and sickening yet very real. Michael Caine is brilliant in this movie and an Oscar nomination is forthcoming. Watch this movie and try to understand the social issues that we all face in the future. Emily Mortimer plays a great support role in a hopeless situation where her morals are constantly challenged. Daniel Barber-Director and Gary Young-Screenplay have created a masterpiece that will live long in my memory.

Poor Script, Poor Direction but Good Action
16 October 2009
This movie will appeal more to younger males than others. It has a terrible script and is poorly directed, but there is heaps of action to keep some interest. The budget is big but the result is less. It could have been a movie to rival Transformers 2, but sadly a French/USA feel production does not hit the mark. The most positive aspect are the countless action sequences which could be further picked at, but with the script and direction being so poor, they are the only saving grace. I do not hold much hope for the sequel but with a better script you never know it may surprise. Overall I would have preferred to watch Transformers 2 a second time than watch this.

Stays true to the cartoon.
18 September 2009
If you liked the cartoons you will like this movie. It is enjoyable and will keep the kids entertained. The story is simple the characters stay true to the cartoon ones and the best part is everybody loves Scooby Doo. This takes us back to when they first combine as an investigative group, having to defend their names at high school after some strange mishaps. I am not sure what the budget was on the film some simple effects have been used to keep production costs down. I give it a 6 out of 10 as it is lacking some substance, but still puts allot of bigger budget movies to shame. Overall worth watching with the kids and I hope they continue on and make more of this series.

Still rates as one of the funniest movies of all time!
7 August 2009
If you have not seen this movie, grab it from your local video shop and enjoy! I watched it again recently and found myself laughing along with the ridiculous voice overs and bad hair actors! After watching modern comedies with millions wasted on rubbish scripts and actors, I say wake up Hollywood and look at this genre that actually is funny! Sure it is corny in parts but what comedy isn't? Kids will love it too as much as the adults so have some great family laugh therapy. I hope they proceed with the sequel which I am sure will be rubbished by critics but will make the millions of fans of which I am one laugh even more. See it and enjoy!

Disturbing, not worthy of the IMDb rating!
5 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This is truly one of the most awful movies you can experience. The script is utter rubbish that totally relies on the "F" word! How anyone could have directed the senseless and disturbing violence, when this was meant to be a comedy is beyond me! This does not even rate as a dark comedy. Seth Rogan is a likable actor but after watching this I doubt I would rush out to see another one of his movies. I have to admit I watched the whole movie and cannot validate why! I must have lapsed into some sort of coma? Can safely add this to the list with "The Spirit" as the worst movies I have seen of late. Don't bother with this disturbing gutter garbage! Eighty plus minutes of your life can be spent watching a better movie.
