Big Stan (2007)

You did it Rob!
12 December 2008
Fist of all , I want to congratulate Rob Schneider in his directorial debut. This must be the funniest movie you have done! I laughed more than all your previous movies and probably more than most of Adam Sandler's movies.

This movie was surprisingly (well, not so surprisingly because of the amount of "backdoor" jokes) not advertised and I do not think it made the theaters, at least not in Brasil. I am sure it will do really well on DVD rentals and sales, really funny stuff: the Carridine fella is funnier than I ever imagined he could be as a parody of himself. The first half of this movie was the better half and this was due in great part to the training scenes he is in.

Praises made, this film has a very great deal of porn jokes, and by porn, I mean rape. I do not find this movie to be offensive, but it seems to stick with the rape subject from beginning to end. And that, for a light-hearted comedy movie, is not very appropriate. Taking this matter apart, I give this comedy 4/5 cause it certainly is one of the funniest movies of 2007.

Iron Man (2008)

Cooler than Cool
12 December 2008
This movie is awesome! Best superhero movie of the year and possibly the year's best action movie.

OK, why.. I really like the concept of superhero ironman: its like a do it yourself robocop-vigilante style, but all in the coolest way possible. What can I say, hands down on everything about this movie: the cast does an awesome job, the director very competent, the story is very compelling, special effects of superb quality.

I believe Downey Jr's carrier was brought back from ashes with this flick, and am glad to see he still has what it takes.

Maybe even more than the ironman tune, this movie ROX! 9/10 only because I envy its coolness...

Casino Royale (2006)

Best Bond Movie since Sean Connery 007 Era
17 December 2006
This movie kicks ass! I already imagined it would be more true to Flemmings writing than the other Bond movies because of the title, but I was surprised. I had the impression that this 007 pictured for the first time what everything is about. For example: What it takes to became a 00 agent? Who would fit the profile? What kind of a person would kill and sleep with married women with no guilt... Really impressive. A realistic story. Not the same over the top we all know are impossible scenes, and some true realistic action. James Bond is not some kind of a super hero in this movie like he was always portrayed. This movie made me see James Bond for the first time as a human being. Just like all of us, he can be bruised, beaten, deceived, and even saved from death. This movie was a very pleasant surprise for me. The director from Goldeneye made his best Bond movie (and I really liked Goldeneye) and Daniel Craig is the most believable Bond I have ever seen. A must see for anyone. One of the year's five best,

Scary Movie 4 (2006)
3/10
Is this movie racist? I hope I am wrong about this...
5 June 2006
The fourth Scary Movie seemed to me very ....not funny compared with the other three. And I was very disappointed since I liked the third movie very much, and since this one has the same director and screenplay writer I was expecting a very funny movie.

Let me get to the point. I really thought this movie was very much racist with afro-Americans overall. I am not saying this because I am an afro-American and I hope I am wrong but I will try to prove my reasons through several scenes I disliked in the movie:

  • two afro-American rappers are killed by the alien attack. They vanish and the only thing left are their silver chains and necklaces and stuff. (OK, MAYBE this one is only a bad joke)

  • the blond hair girl's friend(played afro-American actress Regina Hall) is portrayed as a total prostitute. I am not sure she behaved like this in the previous movies, but on this one it was really explicit.

  • the two afro-American actors(very good in their comedic roles by the way) playing the gay couple in a Horseback Mountain reference. I know its just a silly movie, but it really looks quite humiliating for them.

  • Mike Tyson goes mad on a "tearing everybody's ear" spree on a boxing arena (ok, maybe making fun of his image will work for him but I think probably not), Don King kills the little boy with his heavy weigh and even Shaq seems very mean in the initial scene of this movie.

  • Tom Ryan break Oprah's wrists. OK, I don't no Oprah. What I know about her make me want to not want to know her(uh...something like that). But the point is that she is a very strong personality in American TV and very popular through the afro-American people. I am guessing that her show must have broke a lot of audience records and she will probably become a legend in the history of American television. So, yes, I think she deserved more respect.

  • OK. This is it. They couldn't have done it. They shouldn't have done it. This scene is totally unnecessary. And apart of this being a very stupid movie I still think that they should have used someone else. Or at least, someone not afro-American for a change. But they chose to do it with him and I really don't know why he accepted it. He needs money that bad? He must have cashed some with Episode III. I really hope that this isn't the last movie to remember such a great actor, Mr. James Earl Jones.

Overall very disappointed. I thought I could trust good work from the guys who made comedy classics such as "Airplane" and "Top Secret".

City of God (2002)
The best Brazilian movie I've ever seen
30 September 2002
This is the best movie , made in my country, that I have ever seen. And this isn't just a very well made movie, but also very important to society as well. It's very violent but also very truthful. The series of stories about Rio de Janeiro's bad neighborhoods on the time of three decades are so well told that I wished for more. It is funny at times, but still a very violent movie. Cause of its fast paced rhythm, and cool sound track, this is must see.

Does this movie really exists?
6 September 2002
I was watching this movie at home and I started asking myself: who had the balls of hiring so many good actors to make this crap? Kurt Russel and Cristian Slater are always on these kind of pointless movies, but Kevin Kostner and Courtney Cox? I guess she accepted the role cause she could work together with her husband(David, who also make a lot of pointless films). But, how can somebody star in this movie and in a old folk movie like "Dragonfly"? The worst of it all, is that, beside its coolness, this could have turned out to be a good film. What ruins it for 500 miles is the story. It is terrible to say the least, not to mention the most amount of explicit violence I have seen in some time. But this movie ain't all bad. It has some very cool scenes in it. The explosions, fights, car chases, resuming, all the action you see is very well done. And besides all the nonsense you will find(and you will find a lot) this movie is fun to watch and you may have a good time, specially if you are a guy. I give it a 7 out of 10.

Mr. Stitch (1995 TV Movie)
The worst TV movie I've ever seen
22 July 2002
I rented this TV movie cause it had Rutger Hauer in it. I never imagined I was renting something soooo bad. The amount of flaws this movie has wouldn't fit on a grocery list. I felt sorry for Hauer, seeing him so fat and old, starring on a movie that was so bad. I think he ran away from making this movie, after seeing how bad it was turning out to be(we can only see Hauer on the first minutes of film, afterwards, he simply disappear). I know this film has had its amount of bad critics, but it is just that bad. A 0.5 out of 10.

The worst movie I've ever seen.
22 July 2002
It's been a long while since I saw this movie. But it was so bad, that it remained in my head as the worst movie I've ever seen. Horrible jokes, bad acting, idiotic story and so on. If you want to become a dumber person, this is the film to watch. Now, if after all that I said, you are still stubborn enough to want to see this, call your buddies and get some six-packs. That way, maybe you will spend an afternoon with your friends laughing of how bad a film can get to be. A 0 out of 10.

Eye See You (2002)
A very heavy story, but the acting is good.
17 July 2002
This film has a very destructive plot. Right on the beginning, Stallone's wife is murdered. He(Sly) becomes an suicidal alcoholic and throughout the film all you will see is more people being killed by this same murderer.

Besides his advanced age, Stallone is still in a pretty good shape. But, if you are expecting to see a typical Sylvester Stallone action movie, do not go to see this. The director from "I know what you did Last Summer" has made this a horror/suspense movie. And, besides the tons of action that are thrown at you in the beginning, this story is mostly non-action.

The acting in this movie is at least interesting. Stallone is ok, but it is Robert Patrick's performance of a tough man that really draws attention. It is easily his best performance ever(you will even see him crying). I was also surprised to see Tom Berenger in this movie. He has a very secondary role, but was very convincing as the janitor of an isolated rehab on the Alaska(I´m almost certain its there).

I hope this is as far as Stallone wants to go from his action movies that turned him into a famous actor. I'll give this one a 6 out of 10.

Possibly, the best Star Wars movie to date.
16 July 2002
This movie is so much different from the Phantom Menace. Episode I , with little cute Anakin and Jar-Jar, an alien clown, seemed almost like a movie for kids. Episode II has a great plot(probably the best story of all the Star War movies), and although many critics complained, it has plenty of action in it.

This film has some similarities with "The Empire Strikes Back" besides its dark plot: the bounty hunters play an important role and the heroes end up with a missing hand.

Something I found very interesting on the actors, was Mc Gregor´s performance. He seemed to have captured Alec Guiness´ facial expression and his acting almost seemed like an homage to the late actor.

During this movie, I sometimes reminded myself of the Lucas Arts´ computer games. I wouldn't be surprised if George's way of making his movies is now being affected by his past experiences on making and producing computer games for his company, Lucas Arts, during the eighties and the nineties.

This movie Lucas shows a little more of how vast is the Star War Universe he created during his life. You can see the pieces starting to fit in, because on the next movie, the puzzle has to be completed with no missing pieces.

What the viewer will see here, is one of the five best movies of this year! Note: This is only because a lot of great movies came out this year (Fellowship of the Ring, Bourne Identity, A Beautiful Mind and Minority Report). It probably would have been 2001 best movie.

Dragonfly (2002)
A film for old folks.
21 June 2002
This film is very boring and extremely uninteresting, specially if you are a teenager like I am. I hate coincidences in real life cause they can confuse people. What this movie tries to say in part, is that coincidences are there for some reason. That is very irritating to conceive. Anyway, I would recommend it to old folks and very old folks witch are married. Costner´s performance is above average on this film, and could be the only reason to watch it till the end. After watching this movie, I had the impression I had seen a fairy tale(not meaning it as a complement). From one to ten, I would give it a six.

Showtime (2002)
I found this film good, but, if you care about an intelligent sory, forget it.
8 June 2002
This is the first comment I write on Imdb, so I am a little nervous on what I am supposed to write(specially when I read that I could be added to a blacklist). Well, I better start talking about the movie. I was anxious to see the movie for some time and for one main reason: to see Eddie Murphy and De Niro on the same movie. With my attention on the chemistry between the two actors, I did not left the theater disappointed. Like I expected, the film has a lot of cliches from other cop movies: the elevator scene, were Rene Russo´s caracter is being held hostage made me remember "True Lies" and "In the Line of Fire", almost instantly. Robert De Niro´s acting is based mostly on being cranky all of the time, nevertheless it is powerful. Who is really in charge of the comedy on the movie, is Eddie. He doesn't disappoint in a film that is probably his best, in years. Despite the fact of Shatner appearing a lot on the movie's trailer, his time on the film is of two, three minutes tops(and probably wouldn't be missed if the director cutted all his scenes). The film´s story, is not very smart or complex. So, if you care about the story, forget it, this film is not for you. All in all, I would say this is a GOOD film.
