Bikini Party Massacre (2002)
What a piece of crap!
First of all...whoever the user *Donald* is, get a life.
This guy must be a cast or crew member... He has posted at least 4 reviews, saying that it's great fun & just as good as "Halloween". I hope this fool is getting paid enough. I won't even go into detail about the film...it sucks!
Horrible acting... Horrible SFX... It's awful! Stay away!!!!
Avenging Angelo (2002)
Very enjoyable romantic comedy/drama
After watching this film, I didn't know what category this film would fit at. It's a romantic comedy/drama film. It's a shame that this film was shelved for almost 2 years...it features great performances by Sylvester Stallone & Madeleine Stowe. Some of Sly's latest work has been either a hit or miss..."Driven" was more of a miss, & "Get Carter" was great. It's a shame that more people don't give Sly a chance to act; this film hopefully will show this. Very entertaining indeed. Hopefully, this will be released in some way in the USA soon.
Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot (1992)
A very funny & underrated film
First of all, I just don't understand why people rip this film apart. The movie was meant to be a fun movie, & it succeeds. I think Sly Stallone gives a very good performance. He is heavily underrated in comedy, & he does a fine job here. If you like Stallone & like to laugh, then see this film. Sly plays a cop who gets tormented by his visiting mother. But when she is a witness to a murder, he is forced to work with her. Comedy erupts as Mom annoys Sly & Mom tries to save his failing relationship with his girlfriend.
Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
An awesome sequel!
'Halloween Resurrection' was one of the most anticipated horror flicks, just like 'Jason X'. But where Jason failed, Halloween succeeds. 'Halloween Resurrection' is a continuation of 'Halloween H20', taking place 3 years later. Laurie Strode is residing in a mental institution from the events of the earlier film. We find out that Michael Myers is still alive, & we find out how this is (note: it's a pretty convincing twist in events, which keep him alive). After *visiting* Laurie, Michael heads back to his home, where some events are taking place there. A internet businessman & his partner set up a contest where 6 winners will stay the night in the old Myers house. The house is rigged with cameras so all of the events that take place are televised. But there is one problem...Michael Myers is there as well. Decent effects & good direction help make this a worthy Halloween sequel.
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
Entertaining sequel
'Halloween pt. 5' takes place right after part 4, just like the original 'Halloween' films. None of the sequels will ever measure up to the brilliant original, but part 5 isn't too bad. It's one year after part 4, when Michael Myers is blasted into a mine shaft. He manages to pull himself out, & gets nursed back to health by a hermit. Soon he finds himself back to Haddonfield, after his niece Jaime & whoever else gets in his way. Jaime is staying at Haddonfield Children's Clinic, after her 'breakdown'. Since part 4, she is somehow linked mentally with Michael, & can sense who is in danger & where. It's as she looks thru his eyes. Also, you get a glimpse of the mysterious Man In Black, who is brought back in a larger role in 'Halloween 6'. Both characters have a thorn tattoo on their wrists, & are apparently linked somehow. Some of the characters return from part 4, which is reminisent from the first two films, & of course screen icon Donald Pleasence returns as Dr. Sam Loomis, who once again is on Michael's track. This time, Dr. Loomis seems just as psychotic as Michael. It's not a bad movie at all. Watch it with part 4 back-to-back.
Any Given Sunday (1999)
Too much fluff & no movie
I do appreciate a good sports movie...but to me, this wasn't a sports flick. It was just mostly a character study. One was on Al Pacino, who played the football coach who basically lived his everyday life on football. There was Jaime Foxx's character, who as the upcoming rookie sensation gets a big ego being the new phenomenom, then returns to reality. Then, there is the aging starter, played by Dennis Quaid, who doesn't know if he can cut it anymore but who's coldhearted wife feels differently. And finally the ruthless owner played by Cameron Diaz, who gives a strong performance. The movie is an hour plus too long, & strays away from football too long & into their personal lives too much. This is Oliver Stone's problem with all of his movies. If you want an actual good football movie, go rent 'The Longest Yard'.
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
A confusing mess
Now before I comment this, supposedly a director's cut of this movie exists, with an additional 45 minutes not seen in the original release. Maybe if this was the version I saw, I would understand the movie more. Anyhoo, here's my review... This movie is a mess. For us fans of the series, it is moronic at times. The movie opens up with Michael Myer's niece who for some reason is living in some underground facility. Was she kidnapped? Plus, she has a child...who is the father? Huh? Ok...then all of a sudden Michael shows up. Did he sneak in there, or was he there all along? None of this is explained. His niece escapes with her child, & hides it at a bus depot, with Michael on her tail. She doesn't live long, but of course, Mr. Myers heads back to Haddonfield. Now fastforward to 'Halloween' part 1...remember Tommy Doyle, the boy who Jaime Lee Curtis was babysitting? He's all grown up & is the main character in this movie. Tommy somehow hears the niece's 911 call & miracously realizes she was calling from a bus station & retrieves her child. Then he also realizes that Michael Myers is insane because he is part of a cult. Huh? In the 1st films, he was just a child who went nuts, & killed his sister. Now almost 20 years go by & they try to throw this in the storyline. I don't think this is what John Carpenter had in mind. The main focus in this movie is the late, great Donald Pleasence who makes his last appearance as Dr. Sam Loomis. He returns to the film to try & stop Michael. Now when you watch this movie, try & figure out what the last scene is about. I still don't understand. I feel this movie is hurt the most with horrible editing. Hopefully a director's cut will appear, & give this film a better chance. If you are a fan of the series, see this one. Just don't expect the greatest sequel to the series.
The Return of the Living Dead (1985)
Awesome, simply awesome!!
This has to be one of the greatest horror movies ever made. A great script, effects & perfect acting (some of the acting is B-quality, but perfect) make this film a must see. When 2 barrels at a medical research facility are found containing corpses from the original 'Night Of The Living Dead', they are accidently released. When a poisonous gas is released as well from the barrels, this causes reanimation of the dead in the building. The only way to get rid of them are to burn them at a nearby cremetorium, which is the worst idea...this caused the ashes to go in the air & create an acid-type rain which reanimates bodies at a nearby cemetery. Of course this causes the dead to arise & wreck havoc on everyone in the area. It is a fantastic movie. See this & have fun!
Men in Black II (2002)
Very entertaining sequel
All I can say is to the people that have been giving this movie bad reviews is to lighten up! This movie was made for the fun of it. It shows onscreen & even in the audience. The sequel will never live up to the original 'Men In Black' & unfortunately will always be judged by it as well. What makes this movie work is several things; a great cast, directing & creature FX by make-up master (if not the greatest in the world) Rick Baker. He even has a small role in the film! The plot is simple; when an alien (Lara Flynn Boyle) returns to Earth in search of a powerful weapon, the only person who can help the Men In Black is retired Agent Kay (Tommy Lee Jones). When his memory is brought back & is brought to speed on the situation, he & Agent Jay (Will Smith) get help from characters from the 1st film to help them out. The worm guys return to this movie & are very funny. This film works on many levels, mostly because it wants to. You can tell everyone gives 200% to make this movie & their hard work shows. Go see it!
Bride of Chucky (1998)
Hilarious!
This is one fun movie. This was a great installment after 'Child's Play 3'. It's 10 years later & Chucky is brought back to life by his old girlfriend, played by Jennifer Tilly. Great gags, jokes & effects keep this new Child's Play movie fresh & exciting. Jennifer Tilly does a great job in this movie. This is worth watching!
Scream 3 (2000)
Thank gawd the triology is over!!
Ick! This is what I thought of the whole "Scream" trilogy. They only got worse, but thank gawd the misery is over. All three movies are the same. A new ghost-face killer is on the loose on the movie set 'Stab 3' , a parody of the original "Scream" story. As usual the gang is all here, & they of course are the only ones who can get the baddie. The only highlight of this movie is genre favorite Lance Henriksen. The younger 'Dawson's Creek' audience won't know who he is, but then again, they will be the ones who like this movie.
Scream 2 (1997)
This one stinks!
Note to self, these movies are horrible. As the first "Scream" was supposedly a fresh new genre movie, a sequel was expected. But they only get worse fellas. All these movies are predictable; you know who is gonna get it & when. They try to make these movies have twists by making the killer have some sort of relationship to the lead, played by Neve Campbell. At first I blamed Wes Craven for these movies, but then I realized that it was screenwriter Kevin Williamson. Hmmm, why are these movies so dumb...? Could it be because that he used to write "Dawson's Creek" ? Why is he even bothering trying to ruin the horror genre? Because of him, every independent film company is making these stupid teen-horror flicks. Where is Jason when you need him to rid us of all of these dumb characters?
Scream (1996)
So-so horror spoof
I never understood why this movie got such great reviews...it was a ok horror spoof, but not a great horror movie. In fact, in my opinion this made a mockery of the horror genre. Because of this movie, a ton of horrible 'teen horror' movies hit the scene. Those awful "I Know What You Did Last Summer" movies come to mind. Yes, many horror movies in the '80s & '90s were basically the same, which was good. That was what the viewer wanted, so why change? Apparently genre great Wes Craven felt the need to attract a younger audience...so he got rid of teh horror & threw in pretty faces with humor. I'd write a review of this movie, but it's just a spoof of horror flicks, with so-so humor thrown in. I didn't care for this movie too much; but it was better than the two sequels. Hopefully Wes Craven will go back to the horror movies that he is used to making.
Near Dark (1987)
An excellent vampire movie!
This has to be the best vampire movie that I have ever seen. One of the reasons why it is so good is due to the fantastic casting. This is one of the few movies ever made where the casting is precise. When local boy Caleb meets the beautiful stranger Mae, he tries so hard to get to know her, though not the way he intended. When Caleb is bit by Mae, the other vampires in the group don't exactly take too kindly to the new guy. He is given a few chances to attack/kill victims to prove that he is strong enough to stay with them. Great acting by Bill Paxton, Lance Hendriksen & Jeannette Goldstein, along with great makeup make 'Near Dark' a movie you cannot miss. It's a instant classic!
Jason X (2001)
An enjoyable entry to the series
Well it took 9 years for a new 'Friday the 13th' movie, & I was weary when I heard that the movie was going to take place in space...but I'm sure glad I was wrong! Unlike other movie franchises that tried to make the jump into space, the F-13 series really didn't change much; which is a good thing. Many people were glad that Jason eventually left the woods, but like part 8 showed, that wasn't such a good thing. The movie starts off in present time where Jason is going to be frozen, since he cannot be killed. But an accident freezes both Jason & a scientist at the Camp Crystal Lake Research Facility. The movie cuts to the year 2455 next. A scientist & his students are visiting Earth for a scientific expedition (Earth has become a wasteland planet). They stumble onto the facility, & bring back Jason & the scientist's bodies back to their ship. When the scientist is brought back to life, she warns them about Jason, but it is too late. He wakes up & starts on his killing rampage...again. Like in so many movies, Jason is yet 'killed' again, but due to the ship's medical lab, he is 'upgraded' & becomes stronger than ever. Even though the movie takes place in space, it is still a F-13 film at heart. The space environment doesn't change that. The movie is fresh, with some great death scenes & nice one-liners. And the ending leads up to a new sequel. Since this movie has been getting some decent reviews & has made some money, hopefully we will get a new F-13 film or the long delayed 'Freddy Vs. Jason' film very soon. This movie is a lot of fun...go check it out!
Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
What a great movie!
Now this is original...a Jason movie without Jason, well sort of. When a FBI sting operation traps Jason, they kill him...actually blow him up. But that really doesn't do the job. While the FBI coroner is doing Jason's autopsy, his oversized heart starts beating. Somehow his soul is still alive, & enters the coroner. This is where the film takes a Sci-Fi approach, like the movie 'The Hidden'. His soul travels from body to body in search of being reborn. Now, some of the F-13 fans didn't like this movie; most likely since the hockey masked one wasn't in it like he usually is. But if you like Sci-Fi movies, take a chance on this one. It's a fresh start for the F-13 series, plus the first one done by New Line Cinema. But the best part about this movie is that the video release is the director's cut, which has a ton of scenes that didn't make it in the theater. Plus, this film has the best FX, being done by the brilliant KNB group. Give this movie a chance; it is a lot of fun. Keep an eye out for little details, such as his unrelentless killing instinct.
Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988)
Jason meets his match
Since many of the F-13 films have been repetitive, the writers decided to try something new: put on a Sci-Fi twist to the series. And it works too. The acting isn't the greatest, but it's a F-13 movie, so who really cares? The film is butchered by the MPAA, so most of the deaths are cut tremendously. But good acting by Lar Park Lincoln, Terry Kiser & Kane Hodder, in his first outing as Jason. Hodder truly brings life to the Jason role. When a young girl with telekinitic powers accidently kills her father, she returns to the scene to try & revive him from the lake where he is at. But not knowing that there is a certain hockey masked being in the same waters, the wrong one is awakened. After being revived, Jason starts back to work. But this time he has met his match, & it is a fight to the finish.
Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI (1986)
The best F-13 film to date
F-13 'Jason Lives' is the best Jason movie to date. This one has it all...the best script, dialogue, characters & music. Most of the songs are performed by the shock master himself, Alice Cooper. The movie picks up years after part 5, where a older Tommy Jarvis goes to the cemetery that Jason is buried at. He wants to see with his own eyes that Jason is 'truly' dead. But a accident happens, & Jason comes back to life...again. Tommy tries to warn the local Sheriff, with no luck, so he must stop Jason. The movie returns to the camp environment, where the film had strayed away from. The movie is strong from start to finish, & you won't be disappointed!
