My Sweet Charlie (1970)
Bring back wholesome movies like this gem
I remember this movie from my childhood going back 30 years ago and out of all the movies I have seen since then, this is one I have wished to see again for a very long time. Unfortunately they don't them like this anymore. A movie that has a lasting impression on a 9 year old and strong enough to last through the decades. Congratulations to IMDb for giving people like me a forum and avenue to look up these great old movies and rekindle some of the magic of destroyers and making it so easy to track these movie titles down from 30 years ago by simply typing in an actors name.
THREE CHEERS TO IMDb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
lacks passion
Well I don't know what to make of Mel Gibson's, Passion of Christ. It has no passion. Where was the hemathidrosis (sweat mixed with blood)? as witnessed by Luke in the garden of Gethsemane, as Jesus underwent great emotional stress. Yes the beatings are well represented as the flagellums tear into the flesh, but later, the torn flesh makeup looks like makeup. Where are the flies that are drawn to raw flesh and blood? I did not see one fly on Jesus the whole time. Cold water was used to wash away the blood from the prisoner after the floggings causing even more pain. This suffering was left out also. The robe thrown across his shoulders during his mock crowning of thorns would have stuck firmly to the clotted blood and serum of Christ's shredded back. The excruciating pain, suffering and bleeding caused by the removal of this robe was also left out. Simon a Cyrenian is ordered to aid Jesus to carry the cross to Calvary, he does so with difficulty but there is not one spec of perspiration on Simon the whole time. Surely such a burden would make any man sweat. The movie does not truly reflect the severity of Jesus' suffering. Breathing while nailed to the cross, Jesus would of struggled to stand on his feet to alleviate the strain of his arms hanging V shaped, while in turn causes him to choke; but in this movie he appears to have no trouble breathing while on the cross at all! The torment of massive muscle cramps knotting the forearms, upper arms and pads of his shoulders are not represented. The pectoral muscles on each side of his chest would have been paralysed.
His suffering is not really fully explored. Jesus' stomach muscles would have tightened into set undulations as his sides are pulled upwards by the strain on his arms. To exhale, he would have to lift himself up by pushing down on the spikes through his feet, using it as a pedestal and forcing his weight upwards while simultaneously pulling down on the wrist spikes. Three hours of this torture is not captured on screen. His whole body, at this stage, would be a mass of muscle spasms. Having to lift himself up and down constantly would rip the raw flesh of his back against the cross while enduring the crushing chest pains as his heart is clamped like a vice by the surrounding pericardium membrane and the inflammation causes the sac to swell. Crucifixion was designed for a slow death by asphyxiation and unbearable physical pain. The desert sun would have intensified his suffering and dehydration would have tortured his quest to hold on to life. I am sorry this was not portrayed in the movie `The passion of Christ'.
