Blown Away (2019)
Season 1 - both finalists were unlikeable
I loved the show!
It was so cool to see people glassblowing!
I've never really seen that before. The things they were able to make was astounding!
Spoilers for 1st season:
I wish the 3rd person who was left had won - Alex.
He was really likeable, and nice the whole time.
The two finalists were both very arrogant.
The guy won three competitions and that's all he said the rest of the show.
And he was so arrogant to his other contestants!
The way he treated Alex when they were supposed to be working together in the team competition was awful! "I wouldn't do that." Alex: "yeah you were right." "Who would have thunk it?" Gross.
And Deborah - she was constantly yelling at her assistants which I hated.
Neither of their final pieces were good.
His was too busy. And hers was supposed to have a message it just didn't have.
Both were unclear about what they were going for.
His chimneys didn't look like chimneys.
The rain and the earth were very clear and well done. Everything else was cluttered & unclear. I dont even know what the horizontal blue rectangles hanging from the raindrops are supposed to be.
Deborah's was breakfast. And I loved how it was laid out. Everything was positioned very well and it was pleasing to the eye.
But it was breakfast. There's nothing androgynous about an iron skillet with a hole in it. What? Nothing about her message even existed. The egg was very impressive though, I loved how it spilled over the pedestal. Very cool.
I didn't really care about the finale though, cause I didn't like either finalist & neither final exhibit was beautiful or spectacular.
Private Life (2018)
My god, this movie is so depressing
Wow. This movie.
She just said "We just had a failed IVF, and that makes me feel dead and despondent."
And I was thinking that's how the movie was making me feel.
Not that it's a bad movie. At all. Its very sweet with great characters & really good writing. But it is incredibly incredibly depressing.
Constantly.
I am very attached to all the characters.
And I'm rooting for all of them. But wow, there is no comic relief.
It also felt very long cause the whole movie was just emotionally draining. I honestly was wondering the whole time if it was too real.
I would have liked some Hollywood sugarcoating and jokes.
But no, just constant realness.
Something's Gotta Give (2003)
"Honey, if you were writing this, I'd be dead!"
This movie was so fun, very entertaining and heartfelt.
I loved everything but the ending.
I loved Diane Keaton's character so much.
I loved that she wrote a play about it all, that's so cute & funny!
Her sister was fun and the mother/daughter relationship was great.
Spoilers:
But what the hell? She ends up with the emotionally stunted, chauvinistic man who says sexist crap like "look who gets to be the girl" when he starts crying?
No. Why?
She was dating Keanu Reeves! Yeah he's younger than her - but he was genuinely impressed with her career, was sweet, and perfectly comfortable with his emotions!
Who on earth would pick Jack Nicholson over Keanu Reeves?
Loved the movie, hated the ending.
Wanderlust (2012)
This is trash.
This movie just sucks.
The concept could be good, but the writing is just terrible. So the whole movie sucks.
It's a horrible script.
Paul Rudd just spent 2 minutes saying "my d*ck" into a mirror.
Then went into another room and just kept saying it. The whole movie is just cringey and gross.
Nothing is funny.
None of the characters are likeable.
The plot is disgusting.
There's some good actors in this movie -
Kathryn Hahn, Paul Rudd, & Jennifer Aniston.
But the whole script is just bad.
Bad plot, HORRIBLE dialogue.
Just a bad movie overall.
I have never seen such a stupid and gross movie with such good actors.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)
A Sequel that's better than the Original!!
I LOVED this musical!! It was so fun, the songs were better, the choreography was better, & the characters were better!
And the characters that were in the original had more depth than they did in the first one!
This movie was SO MUCH better & and SO MUCH more fun than the first Mama Mia!!
I don't know why they killed off Meryl Streep's character, but I LOVED her younger self!!
The actress who played young Donna had an amazing voice- she was absolutely wonderful!!
The singing was AMAZING.
AND CHER was in it!!!!
Singing by amazing singers!!
Instead of bad singing by famous people in the first one (Pierce Brosnan - oof they should have had him lip sync to a good singer).
I love a prequel, it was so fun to see the parts that were written in her diary and were talked about in the first movie!
AMAZING!! I loved it, so much fun, so great.
Fantastic musical.
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974)
I loved the characters!! Especially Flo!
I loved this movie & I loved Flo.
I absolutely loved Alice's friendship with Flo. Flo was definitely my favorite character.
I liked the relationship between Alice and her son (but wow is that kid a brat). They were super cute together though.
Spoilers:
I just wish they hadn't put in the scene where David spanks the son, cause I didn't like him after that.
That scene just came out of nowhere too! He was so sweet, gentle, and attractive -
then he turned into an explosive jerk just like all the other men Alice dated!
After that scene I didn't want Alice to end up with him, but she did. She even decided to not go to Monteray and stay with him.
Which I would have been really happy about if he had stayed like he was 90% of the movie.
That scene made me feel tricked and disappointed- like Alice would only date jerks and there wasn't a good guy in existence in this movie.
Good movie, just wished they hadn't ruined the male love interest.
Waiting... (2005)
Hilarious!! Stupid, gross, & AMAZING
I loved this movie. It was hilarious. It's so so stupid and gross but in just the best way.
I hated being a waitress. Being a bartender was a lot better but it still had terrible moments. And this movie was just amazing to watch. It made me feel seen and made me so happy and it was so so funny.
This is definitely my favorite Anna Faris movie now!! Ryan Reynolds and her were amazing together!!! And the scene with Ryan's mom was my favorite scene. This movie is so well written.
Yeah parts were really gross - like the high school girls. But even that wasn't upsetting. It was done in a very funny way.
Loved this movie!! I wish I had found it sooner.
No Hard Feelings (2023)
This movie was so gross.
The premise is so gross. The male protagonist is so awkward and makes you uncomfortable to watch.
Honestly this whole movie makes you uncomfortable to watch.
He's a 19 year old virgin and she's 32. And his parents hired her to date him.
That's so gross.
This movie is listed as a comedy, but it's never funny.
It's just gross and awkward.
The movie doesn't have any redeeming qualities.
I only kept watching cause I was hoping it would get better. It doesn't.
You don't root for any characters, I kind of wanted the parents to be arrested for hiring someone to have sex with their son. That's so messed up.
Terrible movie. Why would Jennifer Lawrence do this movie?
One Special Night (1999)
I love Julie Andrews, but bad movie.
I was so excited when I found a Julie Andrews movie I'd never seen!
I love Julie Andrews and that's the only reason I finished the movie. If she wasn't in it I wouldn't have finished it.
The main male lead was just awful.
He was sexist and insulting.
He was so rude.
He made me want to stop the movie multiple times.
When they got together in the end I was just like "okay, but he doesn't deserve Julie Andrews".
Also it's weird that they got together within a month of his wife dying.
This whole movie was just off-putting because of the male lead. It would have been better if his wife had been gone for a while, if he was likeable, and without the weird daughter's husband cheating subplot.
Spanglish (2004)
Just an awful movie
Wow. I just kept waiting for the movie to get better. It has so many good reviews!
I just thought it was awful.
So many unlikeable characters. And so much cheating! Everyone was so awful to each other, constantly yelling.
The only character I liked was Florence Leachman (the drunken sweet & funny grandma). Everyone else was just so confrontational! I liked Flor for a while, but then she starts cheating with Adam Sandler!! After he says that she shouldn't have altered his daughter's clothes! Which was the nicest thing Flor did in the whole movie. The cheating subplot with Adam Sandler and Flor was just gross.
If the characters were more likeable I think I would have liked the movie, but the only scene I liked was super short - Flor watching her English dvds with Florence Leachman drunkenly repeating the words with her.
Bad movie that glorifies cheating.
And at the end she takes her daughter out of the private school, which is ridiculous. "Screw your education, daughter. You're becoming too different than me" - that's the heartwarming ending? No.
Don't Worry Darling (2022)
What a great thriller! So beautifully shot!!
I loved this movie!! 8 cause I didn't love the ending.
It was absolutely beautifully shot. Amazing cinematography.
And the soundtrack!! It made it so creepy!
I loved the songs and sounds they used!
That there were songs from different decades than the setting didn't seem like a mistake to me - it added to the uncomfortable creepy atmosphere. And the women hyperventilating in my headphones scared me!
I loved it. Great movie Florence Pugh was just amazing! And the ballet dancing and synchronized swimming choreography was beautiful and so off-putting, almost hypnotic!
It was wonderful, like a beautifully shot psychological Stepford Wives with amazing acting!
Awesome thriller, the ending just felt slightly unfinished or this would be a 10 for me. I was so into the whole story. The movie had my full attention the entire time!
Awesome thriller!!
It's Complicated (2009)
So much better than I thought it would be!
I really liked this movie!!
It even made me laugh out loud multiples times!
I never watched this movie before because I thought - gross, Alec Baldwin cheats on Meryl Streep and she gives him a second chance even though he's married?? I thought I'd feel terrible for his wife and that they would end up together and I wouldn't want them to be.
Spoilers:
I was wrong!!! They didn't end up together!!
That's so amazing!!
And I never felt bad for Alec Baldwin's wife - which is crazy! That proves that it's a good movie and that the writing is good!
And it wasn't just because I love Meryl Streep and would always be on her side - although oh my god I loved her character. She was so loveable. She's just someone that you would love if you met her - I want to go to her bakery!
All of the characters were likeable!!
And the writing was so good that I went in thinking I would be repulsed and within like 20 minutes I was thinking - um I would absolutely jump on Alec Baldwin.
I loved that their divorce had happened so long ago! I think that's what made a difference, they had become friends, and there was never any yelling or arguing.
It wasn't an angry dramatic hateful divorced couple that you were watching!
And it was amazing!!
This movie was hilarious, I watched it alone and I laughed out loud multiples times.
It was great!! I am so thrilled that they didn't end up together! And that everything was handled in a friendly mature way! It was so refreshing!!
Choose Love (2023)
This was super fun!!
This was really fun. Kind of like playing a decision based game!
The writing was pretty silly at times, and I really only liked one of the three guys, but it was really enjoyable!
I picked Rex cause I thought he was the most attractive and it was like having the main character follow her dreams.
I loved how the main character would always break the 4th wall! Video games don't do that, so the first time it happened I didn't like it.
But after awhile it made me laugh and I really enjoyed it!
Sometimes a choice felt kind of unnecessary- let boss have it or go easy on him - that was a weird one. Kind of an unnecessary conflict, but I ended up quitting that job anyway.
I don't see myself watching it again cause I really only liked Rex, but it was fun!!
Burnt (2015)
He's too abusive. I stopped 36 minutes in.
I honestly couldn't believe what an abusive a**hole they made Bradley Coopers' character.
He verbally abused his kitchen staff when a restaurant of people were eating! He threw away food when people were waiting for their food. And then when the customers were gone he verbally abused his kitchen staff again.
It was nauseating. It would be completely impossible for me to root for this man.
He's absolutely horrible.
I don't know what the point of this movie was going to be.
I'm not watching another hour of this to find out.
I don't think I've ever seen a more disgusting character. I was shocked when someone said he got a death threat in the mail, but after watching him for a half hour I'm not surprised anymore.
Brink! (1998)
Brink's friends are awful.
The movie is very fun. It's a great DCOM.
I love all the skating and laughing at the cringy way all the teenagers talk to each other.
But what the hell? Is the message of this movie really "don't get paid for doing what you love"?
That's ridiculous! Brink is so lucky to be able to make money doing what he loves to do!
Yeah all the XBlades teams are bullies.
But getting paid for doing something that you enjoy is wonderful!
And his friends are so mean to him!
Calling him a "sell out".
And the audience is supposed to like Brink's friends and want him to quit XBladez and not make money doing what he loves to do?
Maybe if I watched this when I was a teenager I would agree with this mentality, but as an adult I'm just mad that he threw away a chance at having a career doing something he loves.
And his friends only like him conditionally.
They're awful friends.
Spoiler Alert (2022)
I LOVED it - I cried and laughed at the same time.
I just got an IMDB account so I could review this movie.
When I saw this movie on Amazon prime I was just like - why would I watch this, this is so depressing.
But then I realized that of all the depressing movies where one of the couple dies of cancer I've never been given a warning. They just told me that Kit was going to die of cancer. Flat out.
So I started watching it and from the line "Gilmore Girls Characters Ranked from Best... to Rory" I knew I'd love this movie!
This movie was so real - from the guy who he thought he wouldn't see Kit again after they first met cause he's so handsome and attractive, to Sally Field (who i love) getting furious and ranting about something totally unrelated because she has too many feelings and couldn't sleep the night before after they told her Kit has stage 4 cancer. They even went to couples therapy just because being a couple in a long term relationship is hard and things pile up and piss you off.
And this movie had just the right amount of escapism - I absolutely loved the breaks to an '80s sitcom in his childhood, and I was crying so hard and really enjoyed when they just yell "CUT" and Kit walks off the hospital bed.
I've never seen a death scene handled like that - that was the most wonderful expectation subversion and it made me laugh and cry at the same time.
This is an absolutely wonderful movie.
I loved it. I loved the humor, I loved the characters, I loved how realistic the coming out scene was, I loved Sally Field especially, and I really loved just how real the relationship was.
It's heartbreaking that it's based on a Memoir. I was crying so hard and just sitting there as the credits rolled, cause this movie resonated with me for a lot of reasons, and then comes the gut punch of seeing one of my favorite scenes from the movie - but with real life Kit.
But the fact that it was a real relationship and a real story is why the movie is so wonderful.
I completely loved it.
My first IMDB movie review is super long. Haha 😄 🤣
