Hangman (2017)
Pretty average indeed!
This movie was a big disappointment for me. The trailer made it look like it might have some substance to it but alas no. With Al Pacino, one of my two favorite actors of all time, and Karl Urban, a fellow kiwi of mine, I thought it would be at least half decent. Poor script, poor acting on all fronts and just nothing worth writing home about. Pacino does seem to be doing more and more stuff that seems like he is just paying the bills these days. I would disagree with another reviewer here about Wind River though. I thought that was pretty lacklustre also. Haven't seen Snowman so can't comment on that one but as for this movie I can honestly say give it a miss.
Cameraperson (2016)
A bunch of out takes and unused footage does not make a good film
Although the camera work itself was good the film itself lacked any real direction. Just a bunch of unused footage slapped together. Jumping from one scene to the next with no real explanation as to what the next piece is about (although it eventually becomes apparent what is going on in each scene after watching for a bit). To me it just had the feel of something thrown together to try and make a bit of coin for the director, i.e the "Cameraperson"
Fantastic Four (2015)
Give me back my 90 minutes please!
That was pretty weak. As reboots go that was a waste of time. When a reboot is no better than the original then what is the point? This wasn't necessarily dreadful but it was approaching that status. They changed to much of what was in the comic books which for the real people who support these movies who are the die hard fans of the comics then whats the point? There are so many good ideas for movies out there so in my opinion they should not make reboots anyway. A movie should get one chance to be the best it can be so if it sucked don't remake it. If the original is awesome then that's even more reason not to remake at the risk of making a lesser version which is what happens 9 times out of 10.
Under the Skin (2013)
Oh my god what a pile of crap!
If I could give it a 0 I would but i can't. The only good thing about this movie was seeing Scarlett fully naked several times. Other than that it was like some bad student film trying to be too alternative and make the audience "think and answer your own questions". Too many long shots like the director thinks he's Martin Scorsese or something. The opening sequence is around 4 minutes long and doesn't exactly explain what is going on. This kind of film making should have been left behind in the seventies for god sake.If you get it out on DVD just skip to the parts where Scarlett is naked and don't bother with the rest.
Truly rubbish.
Funny Games (2007)
Like watching paint dry
To start with the vote count does not go low enough. I chose 1 for awful but given the choice I would have chosen -10 for borderline unwatchable. Films are shot and edited in a certain way because the standard methods are tried and true and viewers expect to see certain things at certain times to advance the story. The director has tried to be too original here and it has failed miserably. Completely unbelievable and at the same time annoying to watch. And what is with the scene at the end with the remote control and the talking to camera? Stupid and annoying again. As for the story it had too many holes in it and the antagonists where cast wrong. Teenagers are easily over powered by adults. Avoid this film if you can. You will have more fun banging your head against the wall for a couple of hours.
