Requiem for a Dream (2000)
The grim reality of addictions
This film effectively portrays the grim reality of addictions. It was cleverly titled "Requiem for a Dream", which suggests the characters aspirations are only aspirations, soon to be shattered by their addictions. The acting was immense and heartfelt with Ellen Burstyn' performance the most noteworthy. The cinematography was artistically beautiful, reflecting the characters disjointed connection with society and mirroring the effects of drugs to help the audience immerse themselves. This shockingly realistic depiction of drugs and addictions reminds you that they never lead to a happy ending.
Disturbia (2007)
My neighbours a serial killer!
I thought this film was great in its slow and steady suspence. The use of limited locations worked really well with the context of the film and I liked how they represented a whole new world we live in while not distracted by our phone, or playing games, etc. Maybe we should all put away our technolology for an hour a day and be more aware of our surroundings aswell.
Prisoners (2013)
Amazing performance! Amazing plot! Amazing ending!
Performances from Jake Gyllenhaal as Detective Loki and Hugh Jackman as Keller Dover where oustanding, coupled with a gripping plot made this film one of my favourites in a long while.
The many red herrings that clouded my decicison who the killer was made me not take my eyes off the screen just in case I were to miss a important information.
My favourite part was the dramatic irony of the open ending, as hearing the final wistle which sounded like it was Keller's last breathe made it unsettleing as it came to a conclusion. Not knowing if they find him before he dies or if they find him at all makes for a sad but realistic ending.
Zodiac (2007)
Amazing
Even know the length of the film was longer than I normally like, I didn't once get bored from watching. The acting was amazing and this is a definate must watch!
The Clovehitch Killer (2018)
Great attempt but horrible ending!
Surprisingly enough I was happy through out. I liked the angle they took following the son in finding out who the killer was before anyone else. I also enjoyed the editing style of cuting back to get a different perspective and to help grasp whats going on from both the dads viewpoint and the sons. It was a great thriller that really got me scared anticipating his dad finding him in his shed. However, the ending was really poor and highly unrealistic, especially taking in account it is inspured by real events. I can see they tried to be different and tried to imply that his son has similar qualities which ultemately leads to him also killing but it did't work for me. I also don't like how there wasn't much closure on what happened to the 'grocery' lady except from saying they could do nothing as she never actually saw his face. Therefore, I would have much liked a realistic ending where the son doesn't try to be the hero and it ends with the police capture of the killer
Spree (2020)
A fun film
I liked how it was a serial killer film using the idea of IRL streaming. It uses this medium alot of people can relate to but delves into the deeper desire of killing which isn't too relatable. I liked the message near to the end. It was a fun film to watch when there was nothing else to do.
Room (2015)
A must watch!!!
For a film with a low budget and limited locations this was an amazing film. The performance from Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay was some of the best you'll see. The fact that half of the film was shot in one room shows how good the acting had to be and the film never got boring. The complex character developments and story telling was incredibly realistic. My favourite part of the film was that they didn't end it once they escaped but showed the effects of this situation on the extra characters. I liked how they didn't end with a happy ending but instead shows a more depressing grim but realistic story.
The Grudge (2019)
Not a grudge film
A rubbish attempt at a money grab. I thought his was an unneeded sequel and did no justice to the original Japanese version. The plot was loosely explained and the grudge rarely appeared which was anticlimactic. The ending was horrible and like every other horror acted like everything was normal before leaving a cliff hanger that the grudge isn't actually gone.

Ma (2019)
Mediocre Ma
This film was actually better then I assumed it would be. I thought Octavia Spencers acting was highly underrated. The film was suspenceful throughout and definately had a unique concept. The main thing I didn't like was the link between Ma and the group of kids parents. I thought it was quite cliche and instead of it being a revenge film, I would have prefferred her character bring the kids to her basement to party due to her loneliness and lack of from her childhood. I also think they did not elaborate on her daughters story.
Inception (2010)
A nolan masterpiece
From everything from the acting to the story writing made this gripping film make me question what is real and what is a dream throughout. Leonardo De Caprios believable performance of Cobb made his and Mals heartfelt background story compelling while delecately linking the two stories together at the end. The films confusing narrative and the crosscutting style between different times made it extremely hard to follow, this is definately one to rewatch again to try and understand it more.
