It's just a favorite for many good reasons
3 March 2020
This is a movie that appealed to me and has repeatedly done so. Nostalgia, soundtrack, the idea, the execution and in my opinion, Cusack was at the top of his game. The whole hitman nervously in love theme was a winner for me.

Cor' blimey this is gritty
3 March 2020
I couldn't believe how powerful, disturbing and original Kingsley's performance was. It is haunting to watch. I really liked the movie, story, acting and feel of this flick. It's not pretty, heartwarming, compromising and a ratings chaser, which makes it special by comparison to thousands of other wannabes. At times, it took my breath away.

Interesting idea partly falls apart
3 March 2020
It's a lovely movie that could make grown men weep. The top notch cast carries it through and it's easy to disregard the holes in the story. The last 20 minutes lost its way for me. The emotional intent, good acting and script seemed to have got jumbled up. But that's just how I viewed it.

Gritty English crim with a twist
3 March 2020
This is another portrayal of a tough English crim with a surprise. He shows his soft, caring and feminine side. What a surprise as he hacksaws through adversaries' legs. The ending is a bit patchy and too convenient for my liking. But I watched it all and it kept my attention, so it's not too bad a flick.

Reasonable special effects and Gerard whatisname ...
2 March 2020
Gerard probably has supercars and a property portfolio to support, so naturally he might choose this type of work. It is an entertaining movie and the net in space, has probably been very inspirational for Elon Musk's Skylink project. I can't think of anything else to write about this opportunist style of flick.

I keep enjoying this franchise
1 March 2020
The first movie was a pleasant surprise. Part 2 added to the story and I liked the continuity. Part 3 adds another dimension which I enjoyed again. The fight scenes are predictable, so it suggests some continuing lack of skill, thought and laziness on the part of the producers / directors. It's easy to see they have set this up for a Part 4, so they are milking the franchise for all they can. At some stage, if they keep going along lazily with a formula, the whole thing will fall over and tarnish the cleverness of the original idea. But the movies are making mega amounts of money for all concerned, so maybe they no longer care about the integrity of the art they are creating. Or maybe they never cared about the art and only cared about the money? Regardless of how I feel about it all, I have enjoyed all 3 John Wick episodes to date.

Crazy good
1 March 2020
Dazzling action sequences. Great continuity from the first movie. Some of the scenes are hypnotic. There is a pattern in the action sequences, which continues as a production shortcut. That's a bit lazy but as the movie is right up my alley so I can forgive this transgression. I like it's moody and atmospheric tone. Keanu's sense of timing is fantastic.

Another Gravitas Ventures waste of my time.

There should be a 0/10 option for movies like this. I lasted 30 minutes before I killed it off. 15 of those minutes I fell asleep. Maybe this a camouflaged insomnia cure?

Logan what the ... ?

I couldn't understand the three times I started watching this, why I tuned out after just a few minutes. No idea what the movie is about. But today I realized what it is. Soderbergh has a thing for casting Tatum. I now realize I don't have a thing for watching Tatum. Oh well, there's plenty of other movies to watch instead.

So many stars ... so not memorable
29 February 2020
It's ok. I like action flicks. This is actioney. It has a groovy chick who can't act but is a good fighter. There is a blue Subaru in it, so I suppose that is an interesting choice of promotional placement. It is interesting how quickly tastes change in this world where discernment has become democratized. Bad luck for big budget Hollywood flicks that end up being so so because of all the competition they face.

Why do they make movies like this? Why did I watch it? Is this the best they and I can do? From memory I saw this when I had nothing else to watch so curiosity got me. I was younger and less discerning. Silly me ... I'll try not to do this again.

It is fantastic ... and ....

8/10 same score as I gave to The Equalizer 1.

Equalizer 1, virtuous, surprising and Denzel is top notch.

Equalizer 2, moralistic, expected surprises and Denzel is the man.

Equalizer 1 has a better script but the Equalizer 2 is more developed in its themes.

I prefer virtue over moralizing but each movie is terrific.

The man guilty? ... The women disgusting?
28 February 2020
This movie pre-supposes a lot. I can imagine the real life subjects of the movie, all probably thought highly of themselves. Objectively, of course.

It's entertaining and well crafted to suit its intended audience. The hypocrisy of the entertainers and the entertainees, is a given, as long as everyone involved gets their money. That's the message behind the message.

There is an undeserved righteousness to this story. It was told better in 'The Loudest Voice' with Russell Crowe ... so unfortunately for this movie, it will be compared to that mini series. Crowe's series was better by a country mile.

Bombshell in a nutshell. Roger is powerful and guilty. The women are victims ... but for a potential $15 million per year ... we'll just keep our victimhood quiet ... I mean a girls got to eat, doesn't she?

On performances. Lithgow good, Theron ordinary, Kidman weak. No-one else worthy of mention. Lithgow scored the 2/10 which was me being generous.

The men can be evil. The women can be evil. Human beings can be evil. This story and movie are weak.

This is a good change of pace and a winner that was totally unexpected. The story is good, production solid, excellent action and Affleck gets it altogether. It has an original and masterful feel.

Story disintegrates
27 February 2020
I haven't researched this movie. But I will offer my deduced reasonings. It may assist you when you start to see similar movies that are a waste of your time. This is set in New York. I have seen a pattern emerging of late. It is easy for me to spot, as I live in Australia, so I am not directly influenced from living in the United States of Amerikar. Firstly, the story. It begins and I thought, this may be interesting. It is cute. After 30 minutes, the actors transition from one state of antagonistic behaviours to a state of love for each other by the 60 minute mark. At 61 minutes, resentment and self importance has them going into emotional lock down. Not that you can pick it from the script. Because the scripting melted down 20 minutes ago and the movie is in free fall. By 62 minutes I am finding this story so tedious, that I have to shut it down and go watch an episode of Homeland. During my viewing as the story falls apart, I start to salvage whatever I can to maintain my interest. I remind myself to be grateful that entertainment is democratized. For a pittance I can watch someone's creative blood, sweat and tears. Someone's art, that they are possibly willing to die for. The back end story is probably young New York film maker, sleeping in the back of Chevy Van, eating out of supermarket dumpsters and borrows friend's Canon 5D ... convinces semi-name actors to participate and gets the backing of an investor who is a bona fide Democrat, voted for A.O.C. and applauded the resistance of Amazon's HQ2 in New York. There is a righteous theme to this movie ... namely that we can do whatever we like in Amerigar because of freedom of speech, inter-racial relationships are normalized, symbolic inclusiveness and diversity is mandatory in film making and when a movie has a story about writers, people in arty glasses and budding film-makers, who borrow other people's toothbrushes, then it will naturally be good even if normal people 'just don't understand'. And if you don't like it, don't watch it because there will be people who will relate to the story and love it ... so who cares what you think Mr. Downunder? By the way, the cinematography is something to behold ... and not because it is good. There is scant regard for lighting and the focus of the camera, particularly in the first 30 minutes appears to be all over the place. You could almost wonder if this has been deliberate in an effort to stylistically further the story ... more than likely it is just another of this movie's downfalls. For all of this I gave it a score of 2/10 rather than the realistic 0/10. Why did I give it so much praise with my 2? Because it was cute for the first 5 minutes. p.s. the episode of Homeland I watched immediately after verified what good story, acting and cinematography really is.

This is very good

This is a mini female Wolf of Wall Street. Yes it needs an extra 30 minutes, more money pumped into the production and fleshing out of the script and story. But Zoey the lead can have the world at her feet if she keeps this up and she picks her roles. Very impressive.

In what universe would you not watch this after watching the first 2 movies? It adds context and ties up loose ends. It's a masterwork but I can understand people not feeling this way, as there were preceding movies it had to live up to. And yes

They improved Part 1 by making Part 2. As I said about Part 1, just watch Part 2 if you haven't already. This is movie making history that makes modern movies look ordinary.

They finally they had something to say
24 February 2020
2001 was the original silent movie from which this follows. So it was pleasing that they finally added a soundtrack so that we could make sense of the story, unlike the original. If they had given Roy Scheider a space shark to kill, it would have been more interesting.

Neither love it nor hate it

I understand why Charlton Heston walked out on the premiere. It's a pretty stupid movie, pretending to be profound. But I did watch it and in some universe I found it enjoyable. Would I watch it again? No, I ticked it off my list.
