A strange love story'
25 November 2021
Leonard Nimoy directs an unusual love story about a woman who is a vampire -- stunningly portrayed by Leslie Ann Warren -- and the man who falls in love with her. Overall good story.

1971 to 2021

Warning: Spoilers
It's been 50 years since I have seen both of these. They both still stand out: The Dark Boy encompasses compassion and love between a boy's spirit bringing his father and his school teacher together. Well directed by John Astin it leaves little doubt that he will succeed in allowing his father's closure over his tragic death.

Keep in Touch - We'll Think of Something Unusual story about a man and his obsession with a woman --- stunningly portrayed by Joanna Pettiet - and his desire to have her at any cost. She keys in on this and devises a plan to rid of her husband, and lures him in with the intention of seducing him for accomplish that goal. Good episode.

Project 'Vulcan'
1 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I just wonder if this episode had anything to do with Mr. Spock and his being 'Vulcan'. This episode concerns 'Project Vulcan' and this was before Star Trek got started. This episode was made in 1964 and Star Trek started in 1966. Overall, not a bad episode about astronaut who returns from Venus trip who can't get warm. Liked Geraldine Brooks and William Shatner as the astronaut. Look for James Sikking from Hill Street Blues and Malachi Throne. Not as bad as some reviews have this episode.

Miami Blues (1990)

Alec at his best
5 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is now a cult type movie. Baldwin actually shot to fame with this movie about 27 years ago. He is a drifter who happens into Miami with nothing better to do than kill, rob, and manipulate a young woman. He is evil, funny, and really has no agenda other than getting whatever he wants, which he really does not know what he wants. No morals or anything other than everything for me. Very usual ending with Shirley Stoler bringing his crime spree to an end. Jennifer is excellent as the young naïve hooker, Fred Ward as the cop tasked to bring him down. Freeze your DVD recorder at the one scene where he robs gang members with a toy Uzi: Read what it says on the wall: Very relevant to the movie. I give this an 8 because it never leaves you in any kind of boredom. Good music score for Norman Greenbaum's 'Spirit in the Sky' to the closing. Look for good supporting roles from Paul Gleason. Also, not really a family movie.

Hermosa Beach summer 1975
4 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is a very pleasant movie without a lot of sex and violence. It concerns a man in his 30's who is uncertain which direction his life should go after being a lifeguard since high school. At his high school reunion fifteen years later he begins to wonder where to go. A nomadic woman on the beach wants him and his former flame in high school wants him back in her life. Look for Jimmy Van Patten and Parker Stevenson starting to gear up their careers back then. An unexpected outcome and overall good movie that makes all of us wonder about our purpose out there in life. Shot around Hermosa Beach in the wonderful summer of '75. Sit back and enjoy it.

Police Story: Wolf (1974)
Season 2, Episode 8

An officer who lives only in his work.
4 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Police Story gets into the heart of police officers who give everything and get very little kind of respect in return. Joseph Wambaugh wrote this and you can tell from the plot that this is headed in a dark direction. An officer (Lloyd Bridges) basically who is a loner becomes unraveled learning about his health and in turn succumbing to the dark side as a sniper not wanting to take any lives, but forcing his own death by police. Gritty story with Norman Fall in an excellent role. Wambaugh makes it clear that no police officer goes unchanged by the job.

The D.I. (1957)

Inaccurate portrayal.
26 August 2006
Jack Webb's movie 'The D.I' came about from the real life investigation into the deaths of several trainees in a swamp in Paris Isle in the 50's. As always, Webb, being the patriot that he is, came to the defense much like all the rest of his shows. I actually found this movie tame by 1957 standards. I served in the Army and can understand the intensity of the training at Parris Island (Camp Death by some)so this movie can never come close as does 'Full Metal Jacket'. I think this is a good movie which is more patriot than it is actual. But again, think of the time period it was made (1957) and what could be allowed and said on film at that time. I have always found Jack Webb to be clean cut and very loyal. I know many have criticized the film as one-sided and government propaganda. If you feel this way, watch 'Full Metal Jacket' with R Lee Ermey. I am a Webb fan and enjoy the movie for it's merit, not accuracy. As I have said, Webb believed in this country and held institutions to high moral standards (LAPD-Dragnet,Adam 12, Emergency etc). Just sit back and enjoy this one from a very strict moral time period in this country. Don't be too judgemental of Mr. Webb. Mark Lockwood Lubbock Texas..

Last saw this in junior high in 1971
26 August 2006
I could not remember the name of this movie. I saw this about 35 years ago in 1971 and never did know the name of the movie. I was in a very small town in Colorado (Rangely) and the movie makes one think of a small town being infiltrated by terrorists. Well, it's 2006 (August) and we have another wave of xenophobia spreading across the country. I love Jack Webb even though he exemplifies true patriotism and love of country. I served in the military in the Persian Gulf War and believe in defending this country from attack. I have read several of the reviews and many of the readers attack Webb as being too right wing and zealous. But people, this was his nature to begin with. Look at all of his productions (Dragnet, Adam 12, Emergency) and he believed in the USA and also his generation lived to defend the country. He was essentially, 'America's Greatest Generation' and he believed in the country. We live in a different era now and generations question loyalty vs. right wing fervor. Jack Webb was caught up with loyalty to American and it's institutions so give this movie a break and view it as harmless. But bear in mind the 80/20 of the Army. 20% defending freedom for 80% who don't really care!!! Mark Lockwood, Lubbock Tx...

Robert Duvall at his best
17 August 2006
This is the only film I have given a 10 on this site. I find this movie fascinating and brilliantly portrayed by Mr. Duvall. He deserved an Oscar for this performance. Living in Texas (where the first part of the film is set) I know that the preaching he does in this movie seems as real as a Texas outdoor revival! He is a troubled man to be sure, but his character lifts all of us up with each step of the way in the movie. Farrah Fawcett plays a good part opposite him as his wife and the movie seems to split apart in the middle then pulls itself right back together again as Duvall commands the part. I can watch this over and over and still find parts which I love. It is like reading a spiritual book over and over and finding something better about it. I have recommended this to my friends to watch as I have only seen it this year (2006). A fine character study of a flawed man and his obsession with religion at any cost. Be sure to catch it. What goes around, comes around!
17 August 2006
This is one of Francis Coppola's best flicks. He introduces us to the very introverted spy man, Gene Hackman. Hackman is hired to listen to people and record infomation about them. It is in this manner that his paranoia begins to grow and he begins to question much about himself. This is an underrated movie which not too many people know about but should be watched. My son Nathan watched it at 9 years of age and really liked it for it's strangeness. The ending is quite good but should have been expected to begin with. I will not give it away but watch for many early actors/actresses who later went on to superstardom... by all means watch this movie in your spare time. mark lockwood lubbock tx...

A movie about 60's freedom
15 August 2006
I saw the movie back in 1975 and remember the television series. This had to do with the 60's freedom and yearning to just step back from life and enjoy. I enjoyed both the show and the movie and have not seen them in over 30 years. I would like to see them again for the value of that time period. I saw Michael Parks in From Dust till Dawn and was surprised to see him again. I recommend this movie for the young at heart. I want both of my kids, Nathan and Ryann to catch this also. It is a clean movie and catch Martin Sheen in a very early role. They just don't make movies like this anymore. Sit back one night and enjoy this one. It is a winner...

The Citadel of 1963 vs 2006
11 August 2006
I will give this movie a grudging o.k. I feel the book was superior in all respects but hey, how can a movie live up to Pat Conroy's book. I was in the military for 8 years and a product of Conroy's 'damaged goods' sickness of the South. I had the privilige of attending that place but turned it down in favor of another school some 30 years ago. But please bear in mind that much has changed in the military and much of the brutality of the school has gone away with all the attention heaved upon it. I noticed that many of the readers comments indicate about the sadism but remember, Pat Conroy attended the Citadel in 1963 to 1967 when there were not the federal laws and scutiny that exists in 2006. I understand much of Conroy's distrust and bitterness about having attended then refused the commission for lack of a better word than conscience objector. I don't have a problem with that and can now relate having seen many of my fellow soldiers refuse to come back to service after the Gulf War started in 1990. Please read the book first and look deep into what Conroy is trying to impart to all of us. It is similar to 'Born on the 4th of July.' Don't look at today's Citadel with any type of similarity to what went on over 40 years ago. Like they say, it's gone with the wind...

Plot thin, but great car chase!
11 August 2006
I saw this originally in 1973 on network television and found it likable for an action movie. Of course everyone watches it for the great car chase all over San Fransisco and the duel between the 1967 Mustang and the Challenger. I think I'm partial to the Ford but who cares at this point. The plot is kind of weak and McQueen's character of a loner is quite well done. Robert Vaughn and Simon Oakland do a great job as well. There are a number of plot twists and finally the conclusion to the movie leaving the viewer wondering like myself. I have probably watched this movie maybe a couple of times and let my son (Nathan) watch the car chase. He told me he likes Nicolas Cages movie better but what do you expect from an 11 year old watching a sixties movie. Anyway, sit back one night when you have little to do and catch this movie.

Fascinating study of a fallen man
11 August 2006
I have read many of the statements concerning this movie and find it one of Burt Lancaster's better movies. He is very intense in his portrayal of a man who is in denial about his past and present situation. The movie does not reveal much to the viewer and only releases certain tidbits of information along the way. The viewer will recognize many of the people who star in the movie before they were known. I think some of us can see bits of ourselves in Lancaster's character and his wishing for a better time in his life. The ending to the movie is truly remarkable. I saw this on television in 1973 when it was released to the networks. I don't think that this movie ever really made it big in 1968 when it was released but has picked up a cult following. both of my kids, (ryann and nathan) have seen it and don't really understand it. It is an adult movie and one sometimes hard to understand. Don't view it to judge it, but rather just try and understand that some people get themselves into situations that make anything we are going through rather innoculous!!!! Enjoy the flick...

Brilliant movie about a complicated love
9 August 2006
I watched this with a very good female friend of mine and we saw many similar points with our relationship to the relationship in this movie. The film traces an almost 30 year love between a man and woman who should be able to marry and connect but because of certain circumstances cannot go the distance. I find this a very, very, believable movie and does not try to place blame or either the man nor woman. This film rather try to teach us about the consequences to reaching out and falling in love and how consequences can arise. Both Diane Keaton and Sam Sheppard deserve Oscars with Robert Patrick bringing in an excellent performance of the son. This movie really moves me when I watch it and I want to use this as a learning tool to not repeat my own mistakes. Actually, I feel the lesson here is to take a risk with ones life and go the distance. Please watch this movie and don't be too judgemental. This is a winner!!!! Mark Lockwood Lubbock, Texas

Nixon (1995)
9/10
A very powerful and compelling movie
7 August 2006
Oliver Stone does an incredible job depicting much of Richard Nixon's failed life. He presents Mr. Nixon as a man one can have sympathy for because of his intense insecurity and feelings of persecution from the 'Eastern Elite'. This goes back to his troubled childhood growing up poor in Los Angeles and always trying to live in Jack Kennedy's shadow. I was around (17years old) when he resigned in 1974 and remember being forced by my parents to watch his resignation speech. There was all the alarm of a nation coming undone but we just went on normally with the transition of Nixon to Ford. Mr. Stone takes liberties with much of this movie infusing his own judgement and political take on the man. I don't feel he demeans Mr. Nixon, although both of Nixon's daughters denounced the movie. I just feel that he shows us through Anthony Hopkin's brilliant portrayal that he was a very embittered and power hungry man who had the world at his command, then lost everything. Just watch the movie with an impartial view and learn from it...

A very scary movie for 2004
7 August 2006
I have read many of the comments concerning this movie and find that I tend to feel that this movie should not be judged in relation to the first. This movie stands out on its own by reviewing Father Merrin's life long before his fateful encounter with Regan years later. My son Nathan and daughter Ryann both found this too scary for them and felt it was far more scarier than the first. I saw it to be more historical and would judge it on that content. Yes, people are right in their comments about all the gore and vileness, but I saw that in the first movie in 1973 when it came out. I'm going to venture to say that people are turned off by this movie simply because it in no way resembles the original. This is the part where a director steps back and quits trying to leech off the first success. Give him some credit about trying to diversify this movie for the audience. Don't go in with any type of preconceived notion about the original or you will be disappointed like the rest in these comments. It is a good movie and well worth seeing. Mark Lockwood, Lubbock Tx...

Collateral (2004)
9/10
A different role for Tom Cruise
7 August 2006
I felt that this movie was a much better movie putting Mr.Cruise in the villains role for a change. This is an intense psychological thriller plotting good against evil. I feel one of the issues which never arose throughout the entire movie was the race factor. Never was this mentioned as this movie pits two minds against one another. I feel Mr. Mann did a good job with his looks (gray hair/cold indifferent attitude) matching that of Los Angeles with it's anything goes attitude. Jaime Foxx shines as a man who must finally come to terms with stopping this evil going on around him. So, in a sense, the factor of morals surfaces and it draws to a definitive resolution. I feel Mr Cruise does profess some feelings all of us share but crosses the boundaries with methodical 'task completion' indicating his character's prior service (military) training. My son (Nathan Connor) enjoyed this but wondered at a couple of the flaws but found the movie overall action filled to watch. I will just say to watch it and enjoy.

Unusual movie
7 August 2006
I saw this movie on a late night channel with my kids (Nathan & Ryann) about 7 years ago and kind of sort of liked it. It was directed by the same man who handled 'The Swimmer'. It has an aloof quality to it and you never really get to know where the plot is going at any place in the movie. Many people wrote in the comments that the acting was great-and it is. But yet, what exactly is the moral to the story? Beware your friends while growing up in society. This was set in 1969 and I guess much of it is still valid in today's (2006) society. I get the idea of sheltering my two children from all of today's evils but how do you do it? Anyway, I recommend watching this movie and judging it on it's own merits. I was disappointed by the ending and felt that it could have been done differently. but please judge for yourself..

A good Frank Sinantra movie
1 August 2006
This is one of my favorite movies and even my son Nathan Connor (11) and Ryann (9) daughter will watch this. It was made circa 1967 and really is a good clean movie by todays (2006) standards. It has a lot of action and clean language throughout the movie. This is made before movies began to go into the extreme violence and explicit sex and language. I have watched this probably over 6 times trying to figure out the intricate or crazy plot. It is a lot of fun and can be seen by the entire family. Be sure to check this out! I felt this was better than Lady in Cement which was the sequel. I wish Frank would have made another one after Lady in Cement. I wonder why he just quit after two of these movies which were in competion to Matt Helms (Dean Martin)

Still unknown about Mr. Garwood
31 July 2006
I read above at the other comments and notice all the scorn and contempt everyone throws on this movie. I saw it but remember very, very little. I would like to see it again with more of an unbiased eye. I mention also that I served 8 years in the Army during the Persian Gulf War and was honorably discharged. I see many of the comments portray Mr. Garwood as a traitor. I read the book written by him released after he came back to the states in 1979 and never have really known what happened over there. He has made mention of the fact that he was not the last to leave over there so are we to assume that there are still others being held? I would like to find this again to see and will hold off expressing any opinion concerning Garwood because I don't have a real accurate way of knowing what he did experience. torture? brain washing? or crossing over? We will never really know, but I hold no malice towards this man.

Unusual movie which has gone by unnoticed
30 July 2006
This is another movie which I have looked for over the years to see on latenight channels but is no longer available I believe. I really liked this because it had an overall scary plot running throughout the movie. Both of my kids, (Nate and Ryann like these types of movies and they are at the right age to spot good quality. I hope if anyone knows if this is still being shown around the country to let me know because I can't find it for anything. If you get a change to watch it, by all means do so. It will not let you down and is a little above a B grade movie. Look at how young all the pre Charlie's Angels are in this flick... Enjoy!

Great action & horror movie
29 July 2006
I think I have seen this movie about 3 different times with both my son and daughter. This is mostly a great cult classic now and is a different role entirely for George Clooney. I do not recommend this movie for family viewing but my son Nathan (11 years old) really just laughs through the entire movie as well as Ryann (daughter) I guess I can only say that it is about survival as a whole by good the bad and the toughest ones. Some were disappointed by the ending but I liked the way they wrapped this one up and recommend the movie for just a break from a tough day. It will shock some in parts so be prepared but the action carries all the way through. Enjoy!

Return to Earth (1976 TV Movie)
10/10
30 years later and I still have not found this movie
26 July 2006
I watched this movie originally in 1976 when it first appeared on network television and found it very interesting. I went on to read Mr. Aldrin's book on which it was based. I feel Buzz Aldrin was and still is a man of courage for stepping up and addressing so many of the emotional issues he was challenged by at that time. I was only about 19 at that time but was impressed that so many people hold heroes to impossible ideals and standards without considering what so many may be going through emotionally or the price they paid to get there. I dealt with different emotional issues at that time but they were very, very real to me then and altered so many of my plans for my future. I did have to seek help later and then moved on from there. I talk to my children (Nathan and Ryann) about different forms of mental challenges (depression, anxiety, tension) and want to make sure I can guide then through so much of this. Buzz, like myself, was hit full in the face and had no idea of what he was going through until he got the right help. I feel that this is a difficult subject matter, but is important to work with on for so many people who suffer without feeling there is help available. Please watch this movie and learn from it.
