A Beautiful Mind (2001)
It has all been said before, but
Thank goodness for this film; a year of claptrap was wearing me thin.
Excellently cast and performed. I have seen it more than once and continue to notice the way Ron Howard creates a seamless transition from reality to fantasy. Ingenious.
For the Moment (1993)
One of Russell's best
Russell, my fav, is gorgeous in this film. But more than that, the film covers a tremendous range of human passion and sorrow. Everything from marriage to homosexuality is addressed and respected. The film makes the viewer realize that tolerance of other humans provides the route to saving humanity. Fabulous love story between Lachlin and Lil. I replay their scenes over and over again. Anyone who has ever been in love will empathize with these people. All characters are cast and portrayed excellently.
Gladiator (2000)
not a technical review
while I do not possess the technical expertise of some of the commentors, I am an avid movie fan familiar with R. Scott. He and RC are the reasons I went to see this film. There are indeed many technical and logistical weaknesses but I believe RC's performance will carry it to a place in movie phenomenon history. The success seems to be a combination of excellent casting and artistic ability. I applaud the other characters as well. Because they are a human endeavor, I can think of no 'perfect' film. This one does what films are supposed to do, it captures the majority of the audience who sees it, touches a sensitive place in their psyche and leaves them with a fond remembrance.
