Old school fun
16 May 2013
Let's not take this for more than what it is. It's a fun movie of the classic action heroes getting together to blow stuff up, shoot some bad guys (excessively), adventure in foreign places, riding Harley and old planes. I enjoyed the movie and the biggest action stars of previous decades making fun of each other (Willis: "You've been back enough time, I'll be back". Schwarzenegger: "Yippe-ki-yay"). And Chuck Norris going through Chuck Norris jokes was priceless. It's not some deep movie about war, it's not a special effects movie, it's not a science fiction action movie, it's just a fun movie. If I can change one thing, I would pick a different lady to play Maggie Chang, needs to pick someone with better chemistry with Stallone.

An hour and a half that I will never get back
4 February 2008
Yeah.. whom do I talk to for the movie refund ? I left the theater feeling so ripped off. I know going in that this will probably be shoot 'em and blow 'em movie. But I had no idea it is this bad. The story is so thin, Sly and the cast failed to make any sort of emotional connection with the audience. The movie is also shot with a weird style. The scene looks grainy at times. I'm not sure if the director was trying to be artsy, or don't know what would look good in a theater. Stallone looks okay (I was expecting worse for a 61 year old man). But he keeps his shirt on most of the time, maybe to keep his gut from showing.

Don't go to this movie.. you'll regret the time wasted waiting for the community theater acting to stop and the real movie to start.

Great balance between a monster movie and a love story - IT DOES NOT DISAPPOINT
20 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Or maybe this is what the perfect love story look like ? The story is told from a very interesting, unique, point of view. Instead of the usual, chase the monster, find its nest and weakness, and kill it with a gazillion bombs, this movie finds a new way to explore a horrible (yet familiar through all previous movies) event. The film itself focus more on how ordinary lives are affected by an attack on Manhattan, instead of filming a bunch of superhumans who can always find a way out of a tight spot and escape unharmed. It makes everything seem so real.

Matt Reeves & JJ Abrams did everything absolutely right. I love the subplot of what happened between Beth and Robby. Flashbacks in the movie made everything seem so human and reminds the audience of more normal times, when the only thing that matter was love, and each other.

In the end, in the midst of all the destruction, that's all there is left.

Sweet ending
28 May 2006
Yes, I'm a Las Vegas fan, and this episode is one of the best so far. It was just so delicious to watch the ending with a Brooks & Dunn song playing in the background, it touches my heart. The main plot itself was kinda predictable, the subplot makes this worth watching.

Alec Baldwin did a great job playing Ed's old friend from the firm. Marsha Thomason, as usual, is the weak spot among the cast. Vanessa Marcil is just a delight to watch, she's so smokin' hot. Even Molly Sims is a better actor than Marsha. James Lesure, as usual, is fun to watch in this series. James Caan, is okay. He has a pretty good chemistry with Alec though, makes the friendship and history between them believable.

Wonderfully entertaining movie
22 December 2005
It's definitely refreshing to see a story that's been around a while retold with a new, eastern twist on it. I'm not a big fan of the music and dance that dominates Indian movies, and truth be told I fast forwarded through many of the musicals. Judging from the non-musical dialogues, this is still an entertaining movie, with its share of humor, romance, and drama in it. Aishwarya Rai is just gorgeous, Namrata Shirodkar, who plays her elder sister, is also beautiful. The only regret I have for this movie is that it is not long enough. The ending is kinda abrupt, unlike the 1995 miniseries where things take time to unravel. The acting is good, I particularly enjoyed the interaction in the Bakshi family.

Wonderfully Funny, Very Irreverrent Christmas Movie
28 December 2004
This is one of the best Christmas movie of all times. The casting is brilliant, and the chemistry between all the characters is very much present.

Billy Bob Thornton was especially funny as the loser in life who dons the red suit every Christmas. Just seeing Santa behaving drunken and swearing every other word tells you how different this is from the typical Christmas family friendly movies.

Bernie Mac was funny in his supporting role, and Tony Cox was OK. Billy Bob was phenomenal.

I've watched this movie twice already this Christmas season, and I loved every minute of it.

Bad story, good action
10 March 2003
I went to see "Tears of The Sun" hoping for a "Blackhawk Down" type of a movie, or even a "Rambo", but this is quite different. Maybe it is the current Hollywood anti-war climate. In the center of the plot was a Ranger Lt.'s struggle with his own conscience (played by Bruce Willis). I find it sort of hard to believe that a squad commander that follows orders without question, as Bruce Willis portrays in the beginning, would have a mental examination in the middle of an important mission. I would think by the time somebody takes command of a Ranger team, he would have determined what he is, either he follows rules and orders strictly, or not.

Another problem this movie has is the director trying to milk every emotional moment too long. Monica Bellucci as Dr. Kendricks seems to be crying and screaming every few minutes, and Bruce Willis always has some deep thoughts in the middle of escaping the Nigerian soldiers.

Having that said, this movie has pretty good action sequence in the last third of it, although it does seem quite farfetched but it does keep you on the edge of your seat.

As another user comments, this movie tries too hard to be noble. The result is a movie that tries to tug every emotional string in the audience, but with little semblance to the reality.

Good movie
16 August 2002
I think the movie is pretty good, with good suspense. Kevin Costner was probably at 80%. Kathy Bates was kinda wasted with such

small role. The lighting, cinematography, I thought was just great. For a movie that is not from my favorite genre, I would give it two thumbs up.

Watch only if you want to see the action.
4 June 2002
Being a huge fan of Tom Clancy's books, and seeing how "The Hunt for the Red October" lived up to my expectations, I was hoping to see a more complex plot, with many twists which Tom Clancy is famous for. If that's what you are expecting to see, skip this movie. Watch something else. The only saving grace in this movie is the special effects, and the "cool" pictures of military machines. This movie is a far cry from "The Hunt for the Red October" or the book it's supposed to come from. When I watch the movie, I feel there are many discontinueties throughout. Logically, they all take sequence in order, but emotionally, the movie just do not flow very well. The sense of the timeline is very distorted. Also, there are many things that doesn't make sense, which I think are done that way to fit the movie's storyline. The storyline itself is changed so much from the original book, either for political correctness, or to fit the movie in 2.5 hours. And that takes away a lot from the book's storyline's appeal. Ben Affleck is average. Compared with Harrison Ford, and Alec Baldwin, I would say Ben can hold his own. It's just that the movie's converted storyline is horrible.

As an analogy, remember when Mission Impossible 1 came out ? Many people complained that the plot is too complex. The result of that is Mission Impossible 2, which has little story, and lots of action.

That is exactly how I feel about "The Sum of All Fears".

Liev Schrieber is great as John Clark, I hope he'll reprise the role in Without Remorse (if they ever make the movie). James Cromwell is very good playing President Fowler, and Morgan Freeman is great as usual.

Pretty good movie
16 January 2002
I've just seen the movie again last night on TBS Superstation.

When I saw the movie for the first time, I thought it was a pretty good action movie. Naturally, on Sept 11, I first thought about Tom Clancy's Debt of Honor and then this movie. Last night, after Sept 11, the movie came out in a slightly different light. The dialogues were insightful, just like what everybody was talking about in this country after 9/11, especially regarding the balance between the need to find the terrorists quickly and "bend the law, shred the constitution a little bit". Denzel Washington was excellent. Tony Shalhoub and Annette Benning were great. Bruce Willis was being his regular self there. The scenes hit very close to home. The shot of the bombed FBI office bring memory of the twin towers. I would recommend this movie to whomever is interested in the war on terrorism we're in right now.

goes beyond my worst expectation.
1 October 2001
The whole plot seems forced, and things that are not funny are just crammed into this movie by the truckload. Jennifer lopez was rushing her lipstick application when she heard Matthew McConaughey's voice coming. How is that supposed to be funny ? Yet the director seems to think it's funny.

There are many things that seems irrelevant, and stupid.

I definitely recommend to AVOID this movie at all cost.

A disappointment.
30 May 2000
This movie is a disappointment for fans who like the TV series or the 1st movie. Instead of building the movie around things that make the TV series so popular, such as careful mission planning, inventive gadgets, teamwork, and having a mission that is actually impossible, MI-2 relies heavily on slow-motion action, good looking sporty cars and motorcycles, exotic locations, which makes the movie look cheap artistically.

Tom Cruise kept diving left and right in slow motion while shooting a few bullets at the villains the whole time. And that is about all there is to the movie. MI-1 is so much better because the mission itself is impossible, but MI-2 looks like Rambo taking on a whole army by himself without being shot or even scratched. It is just so shallow.
