The movie is lame, so are the werewolves!
6 November 2000
The werewolves in this movie are quite lame. They are far from menacing and can be killed by a regular bullet as well as by sticking crosses to their hearts. Excuse my ingorance, are werewolves siblings to the vampires??? Whereas the first movie has a straight forward but interesting plot that serves the purpose, this movie pretends to have an unnecessary mythology base. The acting is the real horror in this movie. The effects are cheesy (hence, the only redeeming value!) and sometimes non-existent. The way the director/editor so laughably and shamelessly ripped off Sybil Danning's one strip scene, I hope she got paid handsomely for it.

One last thing, as a sequel to the Howling, shouldn't the movie have the right to use the excellent transformation scene of Karen White at the end of the Howling? Instead, we get a new Karen White turning unconvincingly into a gorilla. (I am not kidding!)

Delightful, indeed
12 April 2000
I definitely agree with previous comments. The movie is delightful! Although this is not the first or best mockumentary around (i.e. not ground breaking), it is a very funny satire without being overly tongue-in-cheek.

It took a while to get here (Vancouver, Canada) and probably won't stick around too long (there are 5 people in the Sun matinee screening I attended). That's really sad...it is 10 times more entertaining than most of the mainstream movies playing in the multiplexes.

a mature romance that aims higher than making you weep
14 February 2000
Screen adaptations of great novels invariably disappoint, so I had the benefit of not having read the Graham Greene novel before watching this movie. For those who feel the movie failed the novel, I'll tell you that I now want to read the novel because of this movie. It is refreshing to see a mature romance that aims higher than making you weep.

There's a real chemistry between Fiennes and Moore as well as strong performances from all of the cast. Some of the actions/behaviors of the 3 main characters may appear irrational or unreal, I view them more as symbolic/literary figures. Even though it is not a masterpiece, I am deeply affected by its exploration of love, faith, sacrifice and jealousy. Perhaps, it is because I am currently suffering from a lost love and this movie helps me to meditate on the meaning of love and on transcending beyond destructive self-pity.

Just an above average horror movie
5 February 2000
I didn't find any of the stabbing scenes scary or gross and the characters just do stupid things, like not sticking together as they should.

The motive was apparent half-way through, even though the killer could basically be anyone. The identity is randomly assigned and I never suspect the 3 main characters or the black dude (if you guessed the motive...) or Parker Posey (who did a great job as a comic relief). The motive is really contrived, though not as silly as in the 2nd one. Take away the fun factor (thanks to Parker, various cameos and in-jokes), this is a very average & play-by-the-rules horror movie. Sadly, it doesn't measure up to its two predecessors. Since it didn't break any new rules, it's not a real trilogy as it claims in the movie. Although the ending refers back to the first one, it's a so-so finale in my humble opinion.

Wild Wild Waste
31 January 2000
What a disappointment! A wild wild waste of the comedic talents of Kevin Kline, Will Smith & Kenneth Branagh. Other than wearing revealing clothes, Salma Hayek & Bai Ling had nothing to do here. No plot, no character development, nothing remotely funny here. There are many terrible comedies just as bad, but this one had potential to be great ... sigh...

It's so bad that it's good...not
31 January 2000
Although this movie has great set design and dance sequences, the ONLY reason to watch this movie is Gina Gershon. Not only did she survive this turkey, she managed to boost her career out of it!

Having said that, I beg some of the previous reviewers here to please wake up. I don't mind if you like this movie for the show, the acting, the cinematography, the nudities....but don't tell me that it is a satire or a cult film.

This is not the kind of movie that is so-bad-it-is-actually-camp-fun. It is bad, it stays bad and it stinks badly. A camp movie is one made with genuine intentions and incompetency. This movie is made by/with seasoned professionals, greed, lots of dough & zero heart. It had too much $/credential to be excused.

Also, this is NOT a satire. To be a satire, it has to have some intelligence. This movie has zilch. It pretends to have a moral while it has none. It pretends to show how women are exploited in Las Vegas while itself is the biggest perpetrator. If you set out to do tongue-in-cheek exploitation movies (like most b-movies and porn), be honest and I'll respect/enjoy that. Just don't be hypocritical.
