Chickpeas (1992)

great low-budget, small uknown movie
17 April 2001
I saw this movie in summer 1995 and I have to tell you it comes too close to home for me. My parents escaped the Beirut war and are Armenians as well and unlike the characters in the movie, we were more fortunate in the American dream. But for the majority of those that do immigrate, they go through the exact same struggles that the characters in "Chickpeas" go through. If you ever come across it, I definitely recommend viewing it.

Kids Incorporated (1984–1993)
bring it back
17 April 2001
Disney or MGM should bring the reruns of this show back on the air...it was such a good show and unfortunately back in the day when Disney was a pay channel, not many kids could watch the show (I only caught it when we got the Disney preview). Now that Disney is a regular cable channel, at least show the reruns so that kids today could see what it is to be a REAL teen band that actually plays instruements.

good movie...could have been a GREAT movie
23 March 2001
This movie was good and definitely worth the $7 I payed to see it. It could have been great if it didn't move so slow in the middle of the movie and if that whole love triangle was removed from the plot entirely. That is what basically took away the greatness away from this movie. Feines tells the typist to send a message to HQ and to propoganda producers that Zaitsev is slacking off yet nothing more is mentioned about it? That was the major plot hole of the movie I saw coming due to this love triangle. If it weren't for that, this movie would have been EXCELLENT. However, its just a good movie worth owning on DVD when it comes out. It was also weird that the end credits were in the form of propoganda 3-D material...never seen anything like it 6 out 10

Truly Awesome Filmmaking
6 January 2001
When i got wind of this movie a couple months ago, I was thinking it would make for an interesting movie. When the trailer came out and I viewed it, I got sucked in wanting to know more about what the movie was truly about. I saw it last night at a sold out theatre (people were sitting in the aisles!!) and everyone was blown away. This movie left me thinking how the war on drugs might be going on in this country. It is interesting to think how someone fighting the drug war would have someone close to them as an addict. The corruption in Mexico and the trafficing and dealing into the states was just as important as well.

Steve Soderbergh did a truly remarkable job: It was perfect to have all the Mexico scenes filmed in the yellow hue and the Washington/Cincinnati scenes be filmed in blue...it made following things a lot easier and eventually the connections came together as scenes shifted. Performances were outstanding: The more i see of Benecio Del Toro, the more i think he is gonna make it big one day. I think he just did. Douglas and Zeta-Jones did over the top jobs. If you do not get this movie...it might be cause you had a hard time following the scenes shifting...that is what makes this film great...Thankfully i understood it and it is a great film 10 out of 10

Got me Laughing
27 August 2000
I bought this one on DVD, and I read through the booklet that went behind the scenes for production. With only so much time given to write a script, get everyone signed, and make the movie plus the downtime suffered by a health problems (Peter Sellers and Blake Edwards) maybe the causes for a shorter possibly less that usual panther...NOT SO in my opinion...hilarity reigns in this one. I love seeing Clouseau in so many disguises, Dreyfus fainting every 3 seconds (though more interaction with him would have been nice), and CATO HAS A BIGGER ROLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally we get to see HOW inept he really was as Clouseau's assistant/manservant. Honeslty though, the funeral scene, the "Remodeled" Clouseau Apartment, and Hong Kong are the best parts of the movie...THis one is worth it

Problem Child (1990)
once u mature...u realize that ur too grown up for this !@#$
10 July 2000
I saw this movie when it came out into theatres. I was in the second grade at the time and I thought it was one of the funnies movies at the time...The whole audience of kids were laughing their heads off at whatever funny scene...same thing with the sequel..Now its ten years or so later and I'm a college guy. And well, this movie really sucks...I guess once someone matures, they realize what is good and bad...THIS IS BAD...but let the kids see it anyway to get the laughs they need before the real life comes in

Disappointing
23 April 2000
First part of it seemed promising then it all fizzled away. The movie is very chopped up and at times makes no sense or the drama and horror that needs to be there is just not there...poor job all around with acting, directing, editing, etc

Believe me, if you want to know what its all about, read the book by King instead..don't waste 4hrs on the SciFi channel watching this garbage

Definitely good...even for the oscar people!!!
10 March 2000
Well who would have thought that the academy awards people would have nominated Blame Canada as best song in a movie?????? This movie is one of the greatest pieces of work i've seen and i recommend it for everyone (even if you can't stand bad language its worth seeing). Oh yeah, the MPAA is getting the middle finger not only from Trey and Matt but from the oscars if they're gonna nominate Blame Canada for best song.

Leviathan (1989)
could've been a classic if it came out 10 years later
18 February 2000
with all the alien rip off labeling this movie has...its a shame it didn't come out ten years later when the Alien saga is dwindling down. This movie is GREAT! The cast couldn't have been better, the effects are great, and the musics rocks. I recommend this film and thankfully its now on DVD cause its worth watching it on DVD. Give it a try today if you didn't ten years ago

American Pie (1999)
the 90's ultimate teen flick
23 January 2000
the 70's was American Grafitti/Animal House the 80's was The Breakfast Club/Rat Pack flicks The 90's was all about the AMERICAN PIE!!!!!!!!

This movie is the quintessential teenage gross out flick that we needed. I cannot get enough of this movie: Many teenagers have to deal with similar pressures like this so it is a bit realistic at least. It's a shame though that is has to be R cause teenagers swear all the time and this movie is for us teens so it kind of defies the point. Of course, you don't have to be any age to see the unrated version...

The Best Bond of Moore, 70's, and Ladies
3 January 2000
Saw it the other day...Though made appx. 23 years ago, Spy who Loved Me is the best bond movie in the 1970's period as well as Roger Moore's best outing as 007. At least in this one he is just right...not too old like in A view to a kill and Octopussy but more mature than Golden Gun and Live and Let Die. Plus Triple X (Barbara Bach) is such a great foil for Bond. Bach does a remarkable job as the spy the bond did love. Though at times Bach's fake russian accent is broken, her acting was top notch and better than most Bond girls in the other flicks. Not knowing much about Curt Jurgens, though I know that Stromburg was adequately portrayed in my view...he needed that heavy accent and old aged style mentality---something that Jurgens had at the time. The Music rocks as well....ok ok its the late 70's disco is here yada yada yada but i gotta admit, this is the best non-John Barry Score by far. The music complements the action sequences perfectly and it fits the tempo of the movie...oh yeah, JAWS RULES! 8.75 out of 10

Roger Moore's farce delight
3 January 2000
Good music, good chases, bad editing, bad sound effects, medicore bond girls, awesome Baddie, but farce James Bond. That just about sums up the installment of the James Bond movies, Roger Moore's second going at it. Unfortunately, the audience saw between the lines and asked, what crap is this? Ok, ok i did enjoy parts of it, but i got more laughs than adrenilne rushing in this one. Definitely a comedy, not an action movie. Best parts include Bond in the Karate School, the maze scenes, they music is pretty good, great sequences but the sound effects were second rate even for the 70's. Also, Bond seems a bit out of sorts with the cigar, slapping and cruel treatment of that little kid. And give credit for American Motors, Bond and JW Pepper chasing Scaramanga. Problem is that American Motors no longer exists (Chrysler bought it in the late 80's FYI). Another piece of trivia, this was Saltzman's last Bond movie, must have quit cause of the bad reviews.

Brosnan's Best by Far
21 December 1999
I love this Bond film: It defintely ranks up there with Goldfinger, The Living Daylights and On Her Majesty's Secret Service as my all time favorite Bond films. Brosnan is in his best form since Goldeneye (I did not like the approach of Tomorrow Never Dies one bit) but it is sad knowing that this had to be Q's last outing....Interesting how Q-Branch and the gadgets take approach with John Cleese leading that division: A return to Roger Moore buffoonery perhaps? (thankfully only the side character!)

What in the name of the goodness of the world
21 December 1999
I first saw this movie on video when I was 7...ten years later, i just saw it again and it left me with the same question the last time I saw it:

What in the name of the goodness of the World was Hoffman and Beatty Thinking?

I didn't get the movie's theme, plot whatever when I was 7 (for good reason too--too young to understand such farce) Even at 17 I can't understand why this Junk was made! Don't waste money on it and hopefully Sony won't waste money distributing a DVD version either

This is what happens when you don't film where the film takes place
25 September 1999
i saw the movie and i have to tell you that if that it was funny in the beginning and sucked at the end.....also why film the movie in toronto if you're gonna call it Detroit Rock City?? I'm from Detroit and I'm happy this movie bombed cause it wasn't filmed in Detroit. Hint for producers whose scripts require scenes in Detroit: Film it here!!!!

Who Am I? (1998)
not nearly as good as the others
5 September 1999
I rented this one the other day and it is not nearly as good as Rumble in the Bronx, First Strike and Rush Hour...The plot is very confusing and i lost my way through it...however the fight scenes are the best i've seen in Chan's movies...especially those swift kicks in the rear with the wooden shoes...I rented the VHS video which included the original trailers for Ghostbusters and La Bamba (I don't know why Columbia TriStar put them there under coming soon to a theatre cause they came out more than 10 years ago!!!!!!! but its good nostolgia none the less) 5 out of 10 stars

One of my top 25 favorite movies of all time
7 August 1999
I saw this one on the USA network with some cut scenes (obviously cause its the tv version). I got to tell you, this is one of the best films I have seen dramatically and politically speaking. Why do you think they are closing up the majority of the nuclear plants in the USA---because of the what could happen. Heck this movie was the prolouge to Three Mile Island. even if Fonda and Douglas are liberal extremists, they got a point with this movie. Jack Lemmon kick butt performance as always and he should have won the oscar for this performance. Top notch movie period. 9 out of 10 stars

truthfully told historical account
2 August 1999
My american history teacher showed this film to us and it is a truthful account of what the Nez Perce had to go through thanks to the Union army. Beautifully told and acted though it was pretty obvious it was a Made for TV movie.

Good action but very, VERY stereotypical
4 July 1999
This movie always pops on 3-5 times on the local weekend or prime time movie on the local stations and one night I decided to check it out. The action is great at some moments but the one thing that made me unhappy was the stereotypes the script writers and producers put into this movie. Not all moslem/arabs are terrorists but in the minds of Golan/Globus they sure are. Also it seems kind of funny that the stereotypes are coming from a mostly Israeli production team and the characters are well...mostly people with Israeli roots. Even the one line when the women are still on the plane shocks me that the little girl says "Mommy are they doing this cause they don't like jewish people?" with the mom responding "Yes, honey they don't like us." YOU CANNOT GET MORE STEREOTYPICAL THAN THAT. Also I think the hijacking of the plane is very similar to that of what happened on the TWA plane that got hijacked by arab terrorists with the one terrorist getting arrested in Athens--the plane in the movie originates in Athens. Overall the Norris/Marvin do a great job but if you are moslem or arabic... you guys might get offended by this movie.

so stupid, so cheezy...IT'S A LAUGH RIOT!!!
29 June 1999
i just saw this movie on TNT and let me tell you, this movie was downright corny and cheezy. But after a certain point, I began to laugh my socks off and to tell you the truth, they should classify this movie as comedy rather than action/adventure. The absolutely most hilarious scene comes when the Delon and Kennedy are making loop the loop 360's to avoid the French missiles that Wagner ordered to destroy the Concorde. Our fearless leader, Kennedy, decides to shoot flares out the window to stop the heat seeking missiles????? Dumb yet funny---the kicker comes here though---after one shot, the flare gun malfunctions and Kennedy tries to fix it in the cockpit and well...if you want to know what happens get a hold of this movie. The dumb parts of this movie include the total lack of plot----yeah lets have some action for 25 minutes than land in Paris and go ONE HOUR with love scenes with prostitutes and flight attendants. Now lets switch to the saboteur for ten minutes then a wasted rest of the movie and a plane that is visually breaking apart and the PASSENGERS DON"T EVEN SEE IT???? ITS RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR EYES!!!!-----final rating for this move--- (1/10) out of 4 stars if it were action 2 out of 4 stars if it were a comedy

decent but nothing like the original
2 April 1999
The new out of towners is a decent film but the plot of the movie is not like the original 1970 film. Steve Martin gives his usual comic performance and Goldie Hawn does a good job of portraying Martin's wife. Her character could go hand in hand with that of Sandy Dennis' performance in the 1970 film. However, John Cleese stole the show (and possibly saved the film!) as the hotel manager, which he is used to playing (Fawlty Towers). Overall, it's decent but why the hassle of remaking it? five stars out of ten
