Just doesn't work
24 February 2002
I'll put the positive stuff first. Kevin Costner isn't horrible in it. Um, the bird is pretty. And, well, er, I guess some of the scenery is nice. But you add a horrible script (contrived is too nice a word), mix in some good actors that you completely waste, and top it off with supporting actors that are completely unbelievable (I'm talking to you kids in the hospital) and you've got a nice little waste of $10.

Not your average adult film
8 July 2001
First, it is important to note that this is not your run-of-the-mill adult film. If you're looking for an ordinary skin flick, look elsewhere. This film aspires to be something greater and, believe it or not, almost succeeds. Steele and Vachs are absolutely fantastic in the lead roles. The two can act and deliver hands down the best performances I've seen in a adult film in years. The plot makes sense and makes a commentary on society. Is it a new one? No, but the very fact that it comes across so clearly and so succinctly is something that most Hollywood and even independent films don't achieve. Obviously there are drawbacks here. There are sex scenes that are necessary for the adult film that don't fit here (Midori in all her scenes, the girls upstairs at the party). Also, while the leads are fantastic, some of the supporting cast is poor at best (whoever that was who played Tony is so flat and dull it makes you wonder how he was cast in such an ambitious project). Finally, the video and sound quality is mostly acceptable, but some of the outdoor footage is too grainy and difficult to make out. All in all, it's quite ambitious with two excellent leading performances. With a few adjustments, it could well have been one of the most powerful films ever generated by the adult film industry. As it is, it's still quite good and well worth checking out.

One hot woman, one lousy movie
29 May 2001
First, Tera Patrick is both beautiful and an excellent performer. That said, nothing that she could have done would have made this piece of trash watchable, let alone entertaining. The action scenes are contrived with no hint of spontaneity. The rest of the girls are at best only average looking and the guys are, well, repulsive. Even the usually solid Mickey G is wasted here. If you're looking for a good adult movie, look elsewhere.

Very, very nice
12 March 2001
This has to be the nicest adult film I've seen in quite awhile (and I'm proud to say that I watch more than my share of them). When I'm looking for a good one, there are a few keys I'm keeping an eye out for. One, it has to have at least a passable plot. The thread tying this one together is a conservative California senator who is secretly very much into sex. The movie then allows her and those around her to indulge with one another. Two, there has to be attractive women in it. Marilyn Chambers is incredible and still breathtaking. She brings a confidence that can come only with experience. Add in the always incredible Stacy Valentine and Juli Ashton (together in one scene) and a handful of other gorgeous women whose names I don't know but must find out and you've got the cast you need. Finally, there has to be something in the action sequences themselves. All the beautiful people in the world can still be horrible in a poor film. The scene with Stacy and Juli alone would be worth at least renting this one. I'm not sure of the standards allowed here, but there is interracial action, group, as well as alternative portal action that is all very hot. All in all, this is a quality film with gorgeous and exciting stars. It is well worth the price of a rental or, if you're like me, you'll be compelled to own a copy to watch whenever the mood strikes. Highly, HIGHLY recommended!

At long last a worthy sequel
3 March 2001
Like most of you, I've found the sequels to Highlander largely unwatchable. I also was never that fond of the TV series (basically a take it or leave it attitude). Finally, though, we have a sequel worthy of the original. While it does retrace some old ground and modify some of the history, I found it extremely entertaining and in keeping with the original's spirit. Plus, there's none of the usual overacting (although Lambert gets carried away at times). And Adrian Paul is fantastic in a rather understated performance. I'd recommend watching the first one and then this one and pretend the ones in the middle were just a bad dream.

Maybe too much dialogue, but some excellent action
3 March 2001
Stacy Valentine is absolutely gorgeous and anything that she is in would be watchable, but this piece is fantastic. There are periods of prolonged dialogue which serve to interrupt the pacing (after all you're not watching it for the dialogue). What is nice about this is that it has a very woman oriented feel to it so your significant other should find it enjoyable as well.

Evil Dead: Hail to the King (2000 Video Game)

Worse than Jack of all Trades
13 December 2000
For all of you ED and AOD fans (as well as Bruce Campbell fans), avoid this game!!! It will only serve to damage your opinion of any of the above. The intro movie is fantastic and really gets you psyched up for the action to come. But what follows is a poor Resident Evil clone with too much repetition in the Deadites and an extraordinarily frustrating control system. It is impossible to tell where the monster is in relation to you. I had looked forward to this game for months now but am completely disappointed in it. Save your money for the ED2 limited edition DVD and wait for the next ED game. Hopefully, it will live up to the license.

Good, but one thing I don't get
4 November 2000
I thought that this was a decent little flick and that Andrew McCarthy was fabulous, but one thing that I just didn't get in this. Maybe I missed it, but I don't recall an adequate explanation of the whole timeline thing. I don't want to spoil anything or give too much away, but a couple of plot twists were dependent upon certain characters being in certain places at certain times which didn't seem to work for me. Is it possible to commit a crime when you're thousands of miles away? Again, maybe I missed something. Once I got past that obvious flaw and just went with it, I still liked this movie very much. For a free flick on tv, you can't ask for any more. The performance by McCarthy alone is well worth watching.

Forget Peter Cook already!
21 October 2000
I can't tell you how truly tired I am of hearing this movie compared to the original. Yeah, the original had some funny moments, but it has not held up well and just isn't that great. This new one had an excellent performance by Fraser, a wonderfully subdued version of the devil by the underrated Elizabeth Hurley, and some of the better laughs of this year. Is it perfect? No. But it is good and worth checking out. So ignore all these comparisons to an outdated movie and see for yourself. It's well worth it.

For those wanting substance with style
22 September 2000
Very nice action with an interwoven story which actually doesn't suck. Interesting enough to merit watching instead of skipping past to get to the good parts. Having Jenna Jameson and Asia Carrere helps liven it up, too. Jenna in that sweater and those glasses is just astounding! Worth picking up just to see her!

Huh?
15 June 2000
Blue Dahlia is one of those adult flicks which is founded on a decent premise which soon after take-off crashes and burns. The stars themselves are largely the regulars (with only a couple of the women being truly attractive and the men being largely repulsive). The plot, had it been filled out more completely, could actually have been quite interesting. Instead, it is a jumble of incoherent thoughts and images. Too bad because it could have been a keeper. As it is, no better than average.

Good, but nothing we haven't seen before
5 June 2000
I have always been a fan of this type of game. I really enjoyed the first three in the series and this one itself is fun for awhile. While I was playing, though, it struck me that it's just the same game over and over. Sure the local may be different and the graphics may be tweeked, but it's just the same thing. The game itself is fine, but nothing we've not seen before.

Lexus is great but that's about it
18 May 2000
Admittedly, I am a big fan of adult movies. And no, it isn't just for the obvious reasons. I like the ones that have a developing plot and that feature people who are attempting to act and attempting to look comfortable in the setting of the movie. Too often, no attempt is even made (just a bunch of naked people flopping around). Occasionally, I'll find one that is a good movie which happens to be adult (The Dinner Party). Somewhere in between falls Babylon. The plot is intricate in the way that so few adult flicks are. While I very much appreciate that, this is also the major flaw of Babylon. Lexus shines as an innocent girl who learns the ways of physical love (all manners of it) in a world she discovers called Babylon. Unfortunately, the rest of the cast falls short of keeping up. Jeanna Fine (one of my personal favorites) is brilliantly cast as the wicked aunt/queen, but she is wasted with a nonsense script. The rest are completely forgettable characters. And the action is simply average (although it should be mentioned that there is a scene in this film that you don't routinely come across in mainstream adult movies so be warned). Overall, Lexus is very good, Jeanna is wasted, and the rest is forgettable. Not the biggest waste of time in the world but you can do far better.

Not nearly as bad as other's say
8 March 2000
I read the other comments here about this movie before watching it. If you've read them, you will know that they are almost all negative. I really don't understand that. I admit that it is far too long (it needs about a half hour cut out to speed it up a bit). The music is often inappropriate. But, strong performances by Ford and Thomas are indeed enough to carry this. With all his fame as a movie star, I'd forgotten that Harrison Ford really can act! This role as a man who has defined himself based upon a lie is remarkable. I find it completely believable that he wants all the details he can get so he can see what was real and what was deception. Thomas is always wonderful and this is no exception. Her initial denial which leads to confusion and then to inner calm is tremendous. This movie is never going to be on anybody's list of great flicks, but it isn't that bad. I'm glad that I waited to see it on video, but it is worth the $3 or $4.

Decent but nothing spectacular
7 March 2000
Say what you want about Kari Wuhrer, when she tries to be she can be a fine actress. She works very well as a woman desperate to keep her place as the dominant focus in her friend's life. It is wonderful to see Farrah Forke again (remember her in Wings?). Unfortunately, the cast around them is sub-par and the script seems to be missing something, especially in the beginning. If the setup had been a little more in depth, this could have been an excellent little sleeper. As it is, there are fine performances by Wuhrer and Forke but little else to back them up. Could have been superb, but it settles for being run of the mill.

A movie that goes from bad to laughable to brilliant
27 February 2000
This is one of those movies that I really had never paid much attention to until there was a special at the local video store. I have to say that I wish I had rented it long ago. The plot and acting are merely passable until the ending. When it ended, I actually rewound it and watched it again. That's what I would recommend. If you know the ending and then watch it, the story takes on a whole different feel and instead of the dismay and tedious nature I felt the first time, you actually can get emotionally involved with the good doctor. If you've seen it once and either didn't like it or didn't get it, watch it again and pay attention to the nuances of Julian Sands' performance. It is well worth the time and money.

Double Jeopardy? So they can't make me watch this twice!!!
26 February 2000
Going into see this movie, I knew very little about it. I'd seen the trailer and so I roughly knew the plot. I've always liked Tommy Lee Jones and Ashley Judd is absolutely gorgeous so I figured this was a no-brainer to rent. It turned out to be a no-brainer in the sense that if you had one, you'd not like this flick. The opening sequence was nice and compelling and I was really starting to get into it. After a few scenes, though, it becomes one improbable scenario after another with wasted performances by Jones and Annabeth Gish. Mix in some questionable camera work and you get this fiasco. I realize the director must have thought the slow-mo sequences would have an effect (the effect on me was laughter), but in this ultra glossy prison sequence it just does not work. If you want a descend Ashley Judd movie, rent Kiss the Girls. For TLJ, get the Fugitive. As for Double Jeopardy, just leave it on the shelve.

Run of the mill action flick
23 February 2000
I had the chance to watch this for free and I've got to say it was worth every penny. Seriously, it was not nearly as bad as it could have been. It's a decent if never surprising "action" movie with a bit of cleavage and lingerie thrown in. I felt that a lot of parts seemed thrown together and rushed, but I've seen a whole lot worse.

Extremely satisfying
14 February 2000
I have always been a fan of the show so I'll admit that I am biased. When the show's run ended, I felt like too many questions remained unanswered. This movie to me felt like closure. To see all the people I'd followed over the past few years together at last was most rewarding. I have heard that this is probably the only Homicide movie that we can expect. If that is so, this is the appropriate way to go out. This movie is sometimes poignant, sometimes upsetting, but always satisfying. If you are or ever have been a fan of the show, watch this movie.

Okay...
27 January 2000
While Chasey Lain is without question one of the most beautiful women ever to appear in film (adult or otherwise), her beauty can only carry this flick so far. With a plot that jumps around and the truly hideous Wallice as her "husband," you'd better keep your thumb on the fast forward button. Scenes of Chasey in a lovely wedding gown and accompanying lingerie are wonderful, but the rest isn't worth the trouble of bringing it home. Rent the Dinner Party or Chasey Saves the World instead.

Adult? Yes. Interesting? Yes. Worth watching? Yes!
18 October 1999
I just came across this oldie in a friend's collection of adult titles. When I first starting watching it, I thought it was a "real" movie. As for the "action," there is nothing here that is particularly interesting or new. But, it should be noted that the dialogue is exceedingly well written and the acting of John Leslie rivals that of most actors you'll see in either adult films or general movies. If you have the opportunity, check it out. As far as adult films go, it's as close to a real movie as you'll find.

Decent adaptation of a wonderful book
25 July 1999
After reading the previous comments, I think that Rich106 has missed the point in his final comments. The movie remains close to the sentiment expressed in Dr. Verghese's book especially when it deals with him personally. To me, it is not as much about what is going on around him but instead about how these external things impact and change him as both a person and a physician. I've had the opportunity to hear Dr. Verghese speak and the man is truly remarkable. When watching the movie, keep in mind that these things happened and that there is a man out there today who has been transformed by them.

Pretty good
8 May 1999
Overall, it was pretty good. It was a little cheesy in a some spots, but I think that having it just a tad on the campy side will actually endear it to viewers. Brendan Fraser played the heroic stereotype to perfection and the villain was remarkable. Some of the other characters seemed not to be well-defined, but they all played their roles in the overall flick well. It's not the best movie that will be out this summer (probably), but it is definitely worth seeing either now or if you can't get into Star Wars.

Very nicely done
8 March 1999
Ok, so it's an adult movie. But it really is very tastefully done. It's obvious that the producers spent a lot of time and money into making a classy sort of movie. I was pleasantly surprised at just how good it was. Even the acting was fairly decent. The plot was more solid than most adult films I've seen. The camera work was above average. It's just a good flick!!

Not in favor of the film.
13 November 1998
This is a flick that tried to make a statement but failed horribly. Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver waste their talents in this movie. The children behave like actors portraying children instead of real kids. The only redeeming factor in this is that strong performance of Joan Allen. Her role of the housewife and mother who has been taken for granted is played marvelously. The rest of the cast should have taken some lessons.
