Wonder Boys (2000)
Very funny
This was surprisingly very funny, and a great movie. I only went to watch it cos another film was sold out. On the surface it looks boring, but it is really good. Douglas who was excellent in 'The Game', but then followed up with the awful 'Perfect Murder', has a change of character. And his performance here is great. I really liked this movie, go and see it. Don't be put of by the boring poster and trailer.
Scream 3 (2000)
GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE
Only joking. It was c**p. It lacks all the originality of the first. It makes Urban Legend look like 'The Godfather' of movies.
Avoid this.
The Insider (1999)
Really cool
This is a really cool movie, absolutely stunning. The depth of the film is brilliant. Pacino and Crowe give great performances. But the director Michael Mann, absolutely rules. His last film 'Heat' was one of the best thrillers ever made; totally underated. This is more subtle, but just as cool.
You have to see it.
Very Bad Things (1998)
Very Cool
This movie was brilliant. You know that segment from Pulp Fiction, where Vincent shoots the guy in the back of the car and they have to clean up all the blood and guts from the car? Well if you like that kind of thing then this is the film for you. Also reminds me of another indie film called Bound. In all this is such a cool movie. Even Christian Slater is good in this!
The Haunting (1999)
Terrible
This film was such a let down. It has such a great premise, and some fine actors, and a one time great director, but 'oh my god' this was awful. Instead of going full out and making a scary movie, De Bont has gone out to make a full commercial film, and he fails badly. Neeson does his Star Wars thing again, good acting in a movie he shouldn't be in. But the worst is Catherine Zeta Jones, she may look hot, but she is a wooden actress. No one is going to listen, but trust me, despite its good premise, this film is awful. But you won't listen, cos it has a good premise. And all you need is a good premise to make a cinema full. This will be the last time i ever see a film directed by De Bont. I just hope the powers that be, never give him this amount of money again to waste on such rubbish. It won't happen, cos this film will make a stack of money.
Don't see this film.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Suprisingly good
Shock horror, Bruce Willis can act! I'll be the first to admit i like his full on, big budget, action films, but you also have to admit for every good one (Armageddon), he does a bad one (Mercury Rising). But this is a big massive change. He gives a good performance, not over the top, but just right. A possible oscar nomination? As for the film, well you have to see it. It has everything, a good story line, and a great plot twist. We even have a film, in which a young actor is suprisingly good. Other that stand out is Donnie Wahlberg. I think the guy was in New Kids On The Block, but he does a dam fine job, and i forgive him for my ruining music in the 80's. Go see this film, when it comes out on full release.
Runaway Bride (1999)
Very ordinary
I am huge fan of 'Pretty Women', so i really looked forward to this. But alas, what a dissapointment. The problem with too many 90's love stories, is the fact that when the two leads fall in love, it is so hard to believe, and your like 'NO WAY'. The big dissapointment in this film is Julia Roberts. Gere does he 'thing' again, but Roberts is now the big shot, the big Hollywood star, and it reflects in her work. With Pretty Women, she was a Prostitute with a heart; you felt sorry for her. Here basically you just hate her, and her acting is annoying. But this film, is very cliched, seen it all before, very predictable. Average movie, which is a shame.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Good effects, poor film
Whatever critics say of this film, it make no difference. People will go and see it. But they will think twice about seeing the sequal. Because this film is poor. At the end of the day the effects are superb, the story line and plot pathetic. Thats all i can say.
True Crime (1999)
Great acting
You know when you are watching a great actor, when he can turn an average film into a great film. Clint Eastwood, is absolutely superb. This film will deliver, if you go in with not so high expectations.
Shakespeare in Love (1998)
Boring
Okay, so the picture is quite nice to look at; but apart from that, it really is just a run of the mill romantic film. I can't see how people are making this film out to be brilliant. I am nineteen years old, and maybe this film only appeals to sixty year olds (like the Oscar committee and most Hollywood critics). Avoid this film like the plague, because it is just average. Don't believe the hype.
The Matrix (1999)
Suprisingly good
Shock horror, a film with Mr. Reeves that is actually good. If anyone is going to avoid this because of the terrible tripe that was 'Johhny Mnemonic', then think again. This is amazing. If your into high octane films, then go see this, it is really that good.
Groundhog Day (1993)
A classic
To put it simply, this movie has to be the most funniest movie ever made. It has genuine warmth, and superb acting by all leads. Shamefully ignored by the Oscars (comedies never win Oscars, right ?!). Bill Murray is a god; and this movie is a classic. Anytime you feel down, go to your video shop and rent this. I love it.
The Simpsons (1989)
Superb !
Probably one of the best programes on t.v. . The voices , animation are all perfect . After nearly 10 years it may be starting to show signs of ageing , but it's still up there . It's the voices , especially of Homer , that just sets it apart . If you're not a fan of the Simpsons then you're crazy .
Essential viewing .
Whose Line Is It Anyway? (1998)
Superb
This was so funny . I saw this when I was in the U.K., and it is a huge success over there . Will it catch on over here ? Let's hope so !
One problem - Sure Drew Carey is a big-ish name , but when compared to Clive Anderson he sucks big time . Clive Anderson is just superb on the British shows ; his wit and timing are superb . Let's hope American execs take note .
You've Got Mail (1998)
Better than Sleepless in Seattle
Going to watch an advanced screening of this film , I can tell you didn't excite me at all . I never thought 'Sleepless in Seatle' was as good as people made it out to be , even though I did see how it could appeal to people . This one treads similar lines , but I think improves on the original . I would even recommend it to men ! Hanks and Ryan are superb , as usual.
All in all , a great film .
Airborne (1998)
Pathetic
This movie was terrible . Steve Guttenburg was okay , but the rest of the cast were terrible . This movie tries to be a high octane action film , but fails big time .
Avoid like the plague .
Enemy of the State (1998)
Good film
This is actually quite a good film , if nothing memorable . I thought Will Smith was actually quite convincing in his role . It's very different from Men in Black, but still a good film . Go watch it .
The Exorcist (1973)
I don't get it
This film is scary ? Yeah right, and my name is Michael Jackson.
This isn't even entertaining - slow and boring
The Waterboy (1998)
Terrible
How can this film make so much money ? How can American critics give great reviews about this film ? This film was not funny . There were no funny jokes in it . I urge you to avoid this film , because it is just that bad .
Beloved (1998)
Dull
This movie is just so dull and boring . Anytime Oprah decides to venture into the movie world , she seems to like playing these type of characters ; you know a women facing hardship , blah , blah . Gee , what an ego .
This movie is a must for people who suffer from insomnia ; it will cure your problem , guaranteed .

Wild Things (1998)
Great movie
This is a great movie . Acting is superb , but the twists make this amazing. But it works . One thing that has annoyed me . I saw this film at the cinema and like most I walk out pretty quickly when I presume the film is at its end , however it wasn't until my sister had it out on rent did I realise that as the credits start to roll , you get an explantion of the story. Why was it done like that? I know for a fact that a lot of people missed out on the ending , presuming the film was at its end . Especially as those scenes at the end are such an important part of the film . Weird .
But in all a great film .
Godzilla (1998)
Terrible
This flim is terrible . Pure and simple . One of the biggest disappointments ever . Why does Godzilla look like the dinousaurs from Jurassic Park ? Couldn't they make it more like King Kong .
Instead this monster was not shocking, we had seen it in Jurassic Park : The Lost World . Why weren't people shocked to see the monster ? Broderik and that terrible actress wandered around as though a dinosaur wandering down the street was a normal thing . And that lady ( I don't know her name , nor do I care ) was just awful. A big mess .
Titanic (1997)
Wow !
Wow ! What a film ! Now , like most males , I hate Di Caprio , but I must admit after watching this , I was very impressed . But as for the film - simply amazing . I salute James Cameron - pure genius . I just cant believe I was so stupid to ignore this film . I presumed it was going to be some boring love story with special effects at the end . But it had much more than that - it was just amazing . The scene where the ship sinks must be hailed as one of the best pieces of cinema history of all time . Bravo !
Michael Jackson: HIStory on Film - Volume II (1997)
Strictly for Jacko fans
A video of Michael Jackson songs . From the Billie Jean Motown performance to the effects of Thriller, they are all here . However as the tape goes on and you get to present day Jackson , there is an obvious fall in standards of the videos, especially the new ones .
And Jackson with full make-up and lipstick on for the final video , 'Blood on the Dancefloor' . Strictly for Jackson fans .
