Great Movie
18 July 1999
This movie was a great thriller. And it didn't even need drunk teenagers, slashers, or lots of tired-out screams. The thought of terrorism is scary enough, but when it involves you, and no matter how hard you try, and you can't win, it makes it even scarier. This movie is for anyone who is in the mood for a true thrill. Jeff Bridges and Tim Robbins are superb in their roles. If you have not seen this movie, please see it, you won't be disappointed.

S.F.W. (1994)
A horrible movie
2 April 1999
The premise for this movie is great. A bit cliched, but great. I like Stephen Dorff, he's a cool actor with a great future. But what was this? Things were happening left and right and were so out of place it was if the editor edited the film backwards or something. The characters are far from memorable, and nothing goes anywhere....not worth 4 bucks to rent.

Noises Off... (1992)
True
21 March 1999
I am involved with the theater and I would just like to say that everything that happened in this movie is true! Anything and everything always goes wrong. It makes you truly appreciate what happens backstage, even when everything does decide to go right. I appreciate this movie to the fullest, and I would love to see the play sometime.

A Long Night
4 October 1998
Hearing of the abysmal reviews this movie has earned, as well as seeing the name Amy Heckerling (Clueless) during the opening credits, I feared for the worst. However, A Night at the Roxbury proves that no one is perfect, and all film-makers can bounce back.

Doug (Chris Kattan) and Steve (Will Ferrell) Butabi are two very atypical young adults. They work at their father's silk flowers store, ringing up customers and making deliveries. They still live at home, and have no goal in life except to go clubbing and score! Although, they own expensive suits and drive (dad's) expensive cars, they just can't seem to get with it. One night after being tossed out of the famous club, the Roxbury, the brothers get the idea of one day starting their own club. Therefore, the rebellious brothers leave the reins of their father (Dan Hedaya) and begin going into business for themselves.

This movie, which was directed by John Fortenberry, had many weaknesses to begin with. First off, since the movie was produced by Saturday Night Live's Lorne Michaels, Roxbury had a very small budget. It also was very unable to achieve the big names that a movie like this could have used. Only washed up actors like Loni Anderson and Richard Grieco made the big names list, with fellow SNL cast members Molly Shannon and Colin Quinn getting large billings as well. Second, the movie starred two characters that previous to this movie didn't have names, identities, or lines longer then `Wanna dance?'

I found myself laughing on many occasions. Though I was never rolling around on the floor busting a gut, I wasn't bored silly. The storyline is weak, and the acting is fairly sub-par. However, the set design and the soundtrack, which features the Butabi brothers' signature tune What is Love, are a very notable highlight to the film.

Overall, I guess I would have to say that although this was not nearly one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, was not bad either. I say, if it's raining next weekend, and you don't have anything else to do, check out A Night at the Roxbury. **

My Giant (1998)
Not bad....
27 September 1998
Billy Crystal is not the funniest man in the world, and Gheorghe Muresan certainly isn't much of an actor. But the Wizard was able to deliver a very good fragile, gentle giant. The story line was very lame. The highlight of this movie was the love an innocence that Muresan feels toward a girl he loved 23 years ago. This movie is billed as a comedy, but feels quite dark at times. **

Whose Line Is It Anyway? (1998–2007)
Awesome show!
9 September 1998
I just saw WLiiA for the first time tonight, and I thought it was a great show. Improv is such a forgotten aspect of comedy, and this show was just what it needed to bring it back into the world. This better be on for a while.

Pulp Fiction '98
15 August 1998
The Big Lebowski is a Pulp Fiction wannabe for 1998. The movie's plot was way too complicated and realistic to be placed easily into proper film formula. However, there are some moments and performances that are downright superb. John Goodman as the Dude's bowling buddy Walter is completely convincing. Being a Steve Buscemi fan, I was disappointed with the size of his part. He has more talent then a line here, a line there (see The Wedding Singer or Pulp Fiction for more examples). Too much was left way too wide open. Had the movie had a little more beef in some areas , and a little less of the weird Dude dream sequences (i.e. Gutterballs) then maybe I would have liked this movie more. *1/2

Mystic Pizza (1988)
Please Explain....
15 August 1998
Okay a) I think Mystic Pizza is one of the dumbest names for a movie I've ever seen b) All of these comments come from a 17 year old's point of view.

I don't know what females want in this world. I don't know the male balance scale for them. But I do know that no one in this world is Cupid, and no one can hit a bullseye every time. But I do know that Kat (Annabeth Gish) getting the hots for a twice-as-old married babysitter with a six year old daughter is something that sounds even a little odd for Jerry Springer. Or that girls like Jojo (Lily Taylor) can be as sexually driving as men, using sex as a way of getting a quick fix. I don't really know how this works, but I do know that this movie shows feminine sexuality in a rather negative way. This movie has just made my male teenage hormone crazed mind, who's spent a long time learning women, even more utterly confused. That's my philosophical point of view. Besides that, this movie had a reasonably weak story and fairly sub-par acting. With only performances from young Annabeth Gish and a young Vincent D'Onofrio being the most convincing. And I'm sorry, but that Mystic Pizza looks awful greasy **

This movie was bad. Mike Myers is much funnier then this! (Although the bathroom scene with Tom Arnold is pretty priceless)

Good Sandler
9 August 1998
The Wedding Singer is no Happy Gilmore, but still a very funny movie, with a great story and great acting. Adam Sandler is still one of the funniest men in the world. And I'm gonna continue to support his work. ***

Jim Carrey's Finest!
4 August 1998
This is by far Jim Carrey's finest, and one of the finest movies ever realeased. It's funny, serious, action-packed and romantic all in the same boat. Even though a couple of my friends said it was terrrible, I think anyone who wants to see a movie, and think too, should see Truman and his wonderful show. ****

Will Hunting is Good
30 July 1998
Why? I don't know. He's the dumbest genius ever. I'm sure there is someone like him in this world. I mean, there are 5 billion of us. Good Will Hunting tells a cool story very well told, and has a downright moving performance from Robin Williams who really deserved the oscar he won. So did Matt Damon (sorry Jack). The best screenplay of 1997 up there with Titanic. If not for some very predictable moments, this movie was awesome. ***

Pulp Fiction (1994)
Good Story
30 July 1998
I think Pulp Fiction was a terrible movie....but the story is downright incredible. The lives of Jules, Vincent, Marcellus, Mia, Butch, Wolf, all wrap up together so well, you'd think the story was based on an award winning novel. Quentin Tarantino is probably the most creative writer/director in Hollywood. And I love the story and the acting of Pulp Fiction, but still, this was a horrible movie.

Citizen Kane (1941)
Perfection
30 July 1998
Citizen Kane is the perfect film. The story is so detailed, yet told magnificently in just two hours. The meaning of the word Rosebud is something that makes you think about your own life, and what the meaning of love means to you. Charles Foster Kane (Orson Welles) is a nasty, greedy old man who wants nothing in this world but to please himself. The fact that he can't love anyone is a wonderful touch to the already wonderfully filmed movie. I've seen this movie four times on video, and I'll see it again and again. ****

Brilliance!
29 July 1998
Dumb and Dumber is so stupid, it's brilliant....The dumb humor and wonderful acting from Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are so well layed-out, and so well told, that this rates up as good tasteless comedy. This movie is not for everyone though, a silly mood, and a taste for bathroom humor is required to sit through this, but if you qualify you're in for a major treat. ****

The Graduate (1967)
Number seven???
29 July 1998
The people who voted this movie the seventh greatest movie of all-time should have their heads examined. Granted, I think this is a very good movie with a very good story. However, I think that Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) is a very one-dimensional character who wouldn't make a bad pothead. Mrs. Robinson starts out as a desperate woman with the libido of a teenager, then ends up as a loving mother, which to me makes no sense. And Elaine Robinson, the daughter, is the most confused person in the world. She is so clueless, she makes Cher Horowitz (from Clueless) look smart. **
