An appeal to Laurie Nunn
eneatug9 February 2020
After viewing three times the first season and two times the second, I decided to write something about Sex Education, and the right place should be here, in the controversial last episode so far... By the way, it's my first comment on IMDB, and this should say a lot how much I care about this show. With no doubt I give the entire first season a 10 stars. I discovered this show only the last November and the first 8 episodes hit me like a truck... I'm definitely not a teenager any more but I was entangled by the incredible result of the writing, acting, directing, photography and music choices of this series. But above all, I have to admit, I was struck by the beautiful chemistry between the Otis and Maeve characters. Scenes like the walking home from the abortion clinic, or the one in the swimming pool, or the "jumper moment" on the bridge, or simply the "steal something" situation in the shop, will be always in my mind (and heart)... So even the unexpected first season finale had little impact on my whole emotion about the show, knowing that more had to come... And all that, of course, had a big influence on my expectations about season two. All considered I found again the same brilliant, funny and touching mood along the new episodes. What I expected most, however, was a bit missing... and I'm talking about the relationship between Otis and Maeve. I can sound a bit silly and naïve, but I would have enjoyed more moments between the two, not necessarily romantic, because each time these two actors interact it's a pleasure to watch. So that's why I can't give more than 8 stars to the second season. And absurdly enough, even another frustrating ending is not the reason of complain, again giving hope to see more of this show. But let me make here an appeal to the creator of this revolutionary series... Please Laurie Nunn, if you are already writing the new episodes, make sure to dedicate more moments to Otis and Maeve, developing their story with all the twists that you fancy, but let us enjoy again this magic couple. Besides, you are the only one who can really engineer a relationship...

No... you guys don't understand this episode it's great.

This is not a story that needs to be pushed. I think season 2 does even better than the 1st, the fact that it takes a sort of a backseat while it pushes the narrative even more of the supporting characters IS VERY STRONG. I love getting invested in even the characters I found to be annoying like the bullies... like the popular girl who got her virginity taken away by the main character. She was always just a comic relief or villain type but they even have depth this season. It's like every character has a BIG role to play this season and I love it. This season isn't about OTIS trying to get with Maeve right away that's what we want, it's about him coping with his mother being awkward taking his love away by going out with her father, invading his school, it's about Otis having to deal with his dad who is always a fraud, it's about Otis having to deal with HIS issues including Maeve and his ex. He's not just going to jump into maeves arms and live happily ever after and I'm GLAD Netflix has the balls to not give us fan service and actually push compelling narrative forward.

Mixed feelings about this episode!

Warning: Spoilers
So first of all, season 2 was a blast it has been its same funny charming self just like season 1 was. This final episode was amazing too up until the end.. what were the writers thinking?! As a massive shipper of Otis and Maeve obviously I'm gonna be upset, but 2 finales in a row where some coincidental event happens to keep them apart more makes me sad. Hopefully we get some payoff in s3 for that storyline. Also how amazing was that scene between Eric and Adam!!!!!!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Why is everyone assuming she hasn't already heard the message?! Easily explains the smile from both of them at the end. Also, what's the first thing you do when you see you have a new voicemail!

In other news Adam was fantastic!

Making it a bit easy for themselves

Warning: Spoilers
I love the show and am still a big fan after this episode. But I think the writers took a shortcut here. I'm talking about Isaac preventing Maeve from hearing Otis voicemail. There are just too many coincidences coming together: Maeve not checking her phone for a few hours, then leaving her phone in the caravan, Otis coming right when she is leaving without either of them seeing each other, Otis telling Isaac about the voicemail, AND most annoyingly in a series about teenagers: Maeves phone being unlocked. Who doesn't have a password for their phone anymore? Also: why couldn't Isaac play fair? He was very straightforward about his feelings for Maeve and he would make for a much better advesary for Otis if he stayed honest with Maeve.

Whole season was amazing, and THIS is how you subvert expectations. Sometimes life is unpredictable and you run into a jealous, selfish desperate guy, who ruins everything. For me, it is a happy ending, because Otis finally comes out clean about his feelings. And Maeve will eventually find out. But this season was not all about them two. Also the path and faith of all other characters was so much more developed and it starting to take shape for everybody. It is all starting to make more sense. 10/10 for season and the episode from me. It should be considered as a middle part of story and a build up, not a SERIES FINALE

Season one was better
Barneyy7119 January 2020
In the first season, the main focus was on Otis and Maeve and there was another good stories but not with all of this details in the second season.

In this season, I feel like all the cast had equal time of appearance maybe some people like this but I hoped to see more scenes for Otis and Maeve with more focus on them because I think everybody love both of them more than the others and watch the show because of them

What a cliché

This season was great! But....

Warning: Spoilers

The last episode kinda felt unrealistic in every way possible. First part was good, Otis - Father scene was probably my favourite scene of this episode. The play was something I was expecting, but still just WOW. And then the scene was suddenly transformed it into this absurd farce. Adam running onto the stage like in real High school musical, his father yelling, and all the happy endings were poping out straight of a nowhere, one cliché after another... But! but It is not over! The last scene killed it all. For how long do you want to keep the Mave- Otis never ending relationship? 3 seasons? 10, maybe? This "fake" tension does not work, it only makes everything irritating. It is season 1 over again. This is the element, which drowned most of the good shows (like Lucifer etc...). So I just hope, this show will soon get over the Mave-Otis drama and continues to be funny and interesting.

Not what we wanted but is it?
ahk-3771418 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I can understand the frustration of all the fans including myself of the unfortunate ending that Otis and Maeve don't get together even though there was a strong build up. However I believe the writers have got something in plan that will work for the next season as they've clearly proven how good they are. And we don't even know what could happen in the next season. Even though Issac deleted the message don't mean that Otis and Maeve won't get together. The first season was good but the second is beyond amazing and fans shouldn't discredit a fantastic season for one disappointment. If they can redeem the ending the one year wait will be worth it and I hope the show don't lose fans because of how it ended as the characters are so amazing and each have developed a compelling arc and story. Overall this season is amazing and filled with brilliant talent.

Otis and Maeve
raviroars6 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I know it's an anti-climatic ending and I expected this but you shouldn't have done this again. That Romeo Juliet play is unnecessary in season finale. Also Otis and Maeve deserved much more screen time. Overall season 2 is fine.

Mixed feelings
Jordan52219 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was strange. The Romeo & Juliet play took up most of the screen time, which in itself was funny for about 2 minutes then it just became too silly and unnecessary in my opinion.

Otis & his dad shared a good scene and was the most emotional, and best, part of the episode for me.

Jackson and Viv shared a cute scene. Really like their dynamic.

Most characters got a happy season 2 ending, presumably to lighten the blow of the eventual nuke that the creators drop on the Maeve X Otis romance circle at the end of the episode, which they have to drag out to season 3 I guess otherwise where's the hook?

Speaking of which...

The ending was the worst part of the episode. It doesn't make sense. Why would Maeve, an intelligent women, leave her phone when she is going to a shop AT night? How did Isaac listen to the voicemail on her phone without a password? Does Maeve, an intelligent person, not have a password? Convenient. What's the drama with the voicemail being deleted anyway? Literally if this was a real scenario, Otis could just go up Maeve the next day and say "hey, did you get my voicemail last night?" The response would be "no" and Otis would say "oh... well can we have a quick chat?" like they see each other every day at school. Why is a voicemail the be-all to end-all scenarios? If you're going to make more drama by dragging out this Otis x Maeve situation at least do it well.

Very frustrating end to an otherwise good season 2.

Some people don't understand good TV.
benwilliamson-7992720 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, it's not what the fans wanted. But the writers did such an excellent job of subverting expectation and doing it well (take hints Game of Thrones). If Otis and Maeve had gotten together it would have been predictable and cheesy, not to mention make another season fairly pointless. Fantastic ending, and beautifully written. Also Isaac can go ahead and kill himself whenever he's ready.

Good things come to those that wait
dylshergold-4230418 January 2020
If You only watch this show for Otis and maeve grow up and stop slamming the show because you didn't get what you want. This season was fantastic and we saw excellent development for plenty of characters and great storylines for them as well. Watching a show for 2 characters is just plain stupid and the fact they didn't get to together YET , doesn't spoil a fanatic season

Non-sense grades. Watch it!
AdrianCama0019 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It seems like people grading this episode 1 or 5 just watched the end and the beginning of the season expecting Otis and Maeve end up together. And it's not a reason to be angry at all, sad maybe. During the season, Isaac was such an interesting character, deeply in love with Maeve and surrounded by his own disability, which makes him believe he has no chance with her. At this ending, we can see a desperate character doing something he maybe don't want to do, but it's such an opportunity to keep that spark of hope, and it's understandable to be angry, we all want Maeve and Otis to be together, but it wouldn't have been satisfactory at all after everything they went through Jackson, Viv, Eric, Lily, Aimee and all of those special characters had their own great moment this season and that was so enjoyable to watch. Can't wait to season 3!

Loved it

Gillian Anderson is outstanding. For those who didn't love this episode it's because this episode had the least amount of sex than any other. This show is about a lot more than that and this episode delivered both shocks and heartbreaking moments. A good end to the season.

Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy
absolutelylucid5 February 2020
I was curious going into this episode why it has been vote stuffed with 1's. Obviously a portion of the viewer base is unhappy with it ... but come on, it's not a series finale. The loose threads will go on in season 3. This show is colourful by design, and it does lean on circumstance a lot sometimes. Maybe that's a flaw in writing, but the writers at least have embraced that from the start. The whole setting is something of a fantasy. This episode delivers as well as any other.

no need for that..
emilytzotza22 January 2020
I love this series, i really do.. but i feel this ending was unnecessarily disappointing .. it didn't match for me.. a happy end is not a bad end if you can write it in a beautiful fresh way. And I think this could have been easily the case if it wasn't for this insistence to do something different. additionally the end they chose to give didn't make any sense,, too many coincidences it almost hurt my logic.. i am really sad that i'll have to wait another year to get something better..

Good ending for a more mature season
kuentinta19 January 2020
Only you can hate this episode of a series that you loves if you are a child and an impatient. Happy ending will arrive when needed.

Although no so fresh or novel this season is more mature, more bold and educational than the first.

And still funny!!

Weakest episode with some strong scenes......
tanmaygaikwad-496101 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Good : The show very craftily show the mind change of Otis which was really awesome. The scene where Otis talks to his dad is really amazing. Otis talking to Jakob was a great addition. Also the way it was shot was really cool. Jackson rediscovering himself and he befriending Viv was nicely executed. All Adam scenes in this season are just amazing.

Bad : The season ended abruptly. This totally sucked all the seriousness and the intensity of the messages that we got all over the season. It makes watching the whole season pointless. Secondly, a girl who checks her phone every 5 seconds and even before her quiz competition, does not even think of checking it for 4-5 hours, leaves her phone while going to the market, does not have a password to her phone. Thus it totally makes no sense. Also the whole sex orgy type theme given to the Romeo Juliet act was not entertaining but cringy.

Overall a good episode becoming bad due to marketing strategy......

This is a brilliant final episode to the better season out of the two. So many things happen in the episode. All unexpected. This show is not made by disney. Characters do not live happily ever after but are made to appear more realistic and emotional. The show does a perfect job of making a great episode.

Warning: Spoilers
This was a wonderful episode. Everyone giving it a bad review is just bitter that it didn't end the way they wanted it to. It wouldn't have fit the story that they set up to make Maeve just go right back to liking Otis again after what he did to her...
