WOW, I'm pretty sure I was forgetting to breathe this episode!
Top_Dawg_Critic20 March 2019
The writers sure upped the ante with this episode, wow! At first I thought this was going to be cheesy all ending up being part of the 'test', but I was pleasantly wrong. Loved the entire story and the suspense and tension during the last 40 mins. I hope there is a continuation of this story in other episodes. Mad props to the writers and cast who were outstanding. 10/10 from me!

Great memorable episode!
jbistiz20 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The episode starts out just like any normal episode. But by the end, it left me in tears!

I've always liked the Captain, and I loved how she was always nice to Officer Nolan! I liked Officer Nolan's courage in this episode!

I'll be honest, I did suspect something bad might happen to the Captain in this episode the second she decided to drive with Officer Nolan. Well it turns out I was right, but I wish I wasn't!

I really felt bad for Officer Nolan, and I was really sad that they killed this great Captain. But at least we know the show has the balls to do something like this.

I've watched many great TV shows, yet maybe 1 or 2 shows have made me actually cry with tears running down my face. Well, I can add this show to the list. I'm gonna miss not being able to see the Captain, and I thought the actress was great, so I'll miss her too.

Never cried past episode, until this one

Warning: Spoilers
Woah i never create an account for IMDb before, now i did because of this episode, OMG, it began to create more interesting episode by episode, the drama, the commitment, the scandal etc. And they got a Reversal Day with IA, each plot & scene is so great, i never seen such a story like this, not in my country, as a Third World Countries, we doest reach this kind of tv series yet, by now i saw a their development of it, bit by bit someday my country series can be same level as American, perhaps if they have strong achievement of it.

Back to the episode, wow threat is was so real, in the past episode show the same but with others story. Alright LAPD Captain is so harsh but she is a good leader, i saw she spending time on Patrol with Chen and Nolan, but didnt had change with West, aww if he had a chance Patrol with Captain, it will be in Top 10 Spending time working with The Captain on Youtube Video.

Because they Captain is so reveal in this series and reveal herself through of any situation, make me think ah this is getting better, have nice time with Captain, but writer made up the decision to kill the character because she died heroicly to safe her Rookie and then i cried when Nolan brought her up from the Pool, damn you got me right, my eyes like broken pipe going through my cheek, about the episode? one of the greatest episode of the series!

Possible future plotline?
chris-2845920 March 2019
Did anyone notice that Lopez's lawyer/boyfriend showed up as they were booking the main bad guy's wife and then the strange timing of his phone call while she was about take down the husband? Does he represent the family? It just seemed odd, maybe it is setting up another story line for her character...

WOW!!!!

Best episode of the series to date. One of the best episodes of a TV series in a while. Sad to see a great character go but what a exit! First time I've ever left a review for a episode of any TV series but really enjoyed this emotional episode.

Best and saddest episode

Brilliant acting all around. Mercedes Mason is powerhouse in this episode, and scenes alongside Nathan Fillion have always stood out. The twist shook the very flow of the show putting characters and audience alike on their toes

For those wondering-Grant Harvey plays Cole Midas
christiehagerty21 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Holy moly! They really killed her!!! 😢 I'm so sad to see the captain gone. Mercedes Mason is a great actress & Captain Andersen a great female character. The writers really upped their game with this episode. Hated that she died but it seemed a more realistic way for that scene to play out than for all the police to be fine and just the bad guys get hurt. Nice job by all involved.

This episode left me reeling.
yamagata23 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had the largest emotional impact on me, more than any other episode to date and more than likely than in the future. It may be that, where I live we are all grieving in my community for a recently gunned down police officer. This episode really affected me to the core.

Well written and well acted, one of the season's best drama focused episodes
Holt34420 March 2019
I have watched this show and enjoyed every episode of it and seen the depth of the writing, making up original storytelling and interesting characters. I didn't really feel it was something I had to write a review on but after seeing this episode I felt I had to express myself as from start to finish its some quality drama, some of the best drama on the show, putting the comedy back a bit to focus mainly on character drama. The writing team wrote a storyline for the episode so original and great that they succeeded in making one of the show's best episodes. There were some stunning editing in this episode, making the story flow very well with everything else.

The ensemble cast is incredible and the writing for their respective characters is what makes them great, they are believable and likeable. In this episode we get to see Nathan Fillion and Mercedes Mason shine the most, giving something incredible to every scene. Simply great acting in a superb episode

Heartbreaking
claudio_carvalho19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
On a day that the integrity of officers is tested on the field through traps, Nolan stops a woman from stabbing a restaurant valet and accidentally tears her dress. However, she is Astrid Heisserer, the mistress of the gang pin Cole Midas that feels disrespected and puts a hit on Nolan. The LAPD decides to arrest gangsters and close illegal business of the gang and Sgt, Grey goes to the prison to visit the father of Cole, Leonard "King" Midas, to propose to call off the hit. Meanwhile Nolan is on patrol Captain Zoe Andersen, when Grey informs that King Midas has called off the contract. But they do not know that Cole has not accepted his father's command.

"Greenlight" is a heartbreaking episode of "The Rookie" and maybe the best so far. I regret the loss of Captain Zoe Andersen, who is together with Talia and Chen, the best characters of thi engaging series. My vote is nine.

Production Dysfunction
rbr-4129920 March 2019
This episode was certainly highly charged and dramatically intense with excellent acting as usual, but I noted several problems. First, why is it that the only terrorist groups Hollywood cop shows depict are white supremacists? It is a subtle slur against conservatives by the Hollywood Left. Those who terrorize television heroes are never from left-wing groups like Antifa. Second, as the dead officer was wheeled to the coroner's vehicle her body was draped with an American flag. You don't put the American flag on a corpse. The flag is sometimes draped over a coffin at a funeral. At least the officers didn't kneel on the ground. Third, the sergeant used the wrong command when he ordered the officers to salute. The command is "present arms," not "order arms." Again, this is a ritual reserved for funerals. That entire scene was totally wrong.

On another plot device, I've never heard of a police department Internal Affairs officer deliberately posing as someone breaking the law or inducing someone to break the law just to see if an officer will violate procedure. That's no different than the police creating a crime by entrapment. I find it difficult to believe the LAPD IA would employ this tactic. Moreover, in the scene in which a celebrity owing community service was induced to break the law, the TO got his revenge by issuing citations for multiple serious offenses. These citations would ultimately create a legal fiasco because his defense attorney could argue that his client was the victim of police corruption in forcing the celebrity to break the law to satisfy community service. I have to wonder if the producers for The Rookie have any liaison with the LAPD or a retired LAPD officer to review episode scripts before they are set in stone. It would seem not.

Not realistic
jaykravetz21 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
When a police officer is dispatched to a crime, after he arrives at the crime scene, a radio check is done with the officer if he doesn't report for a few minutes. If he doesn't answer units are sent to check on him. The scene went from day to night with no safety radio check. That never happens.

Sad and exciting episode. Wrong actor listed for Cole Midas and I can't think for the life of me the actors name that it really was, but he needs his props.

Unrealistic
imdb-767-41745028 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I love the show but the unit with police captain and greenlight rookie is responding to a call and time passes until it is dark with no one at dispatch wondering why they did not report in? Come on! Be realistic

In this Situation no sitrep within 15 min gehts the SWAT Team to the unit.

In an previous episode Officer Bradford statet that to the gang members: "I am never alone!" - and now the rookie and the captain are left alone after accepting a call?

Bitter Sweet
iHatem195 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I really hate how good the acting was at the climax of this episode, it showed a completely different tone for a show like the rookie, It's pretty obvious the production is mediocre and a lot of goofs and wrong details, but I don't necessarily care cause it's a TV show, I just can't get over the scene when they started to wake up and how heartbreaking it was to see the captain and Nolan struggling to stay alive, the acting was different, things got real fast, like the whole episode was a regular part of the rookie but that scene itself felt so different like it was from another show and I knew this episode would get solid rating for that. Never thought I'd hate how much it was well performed.

Great but sad episode - with one thing that could have been better
I don't want to spoil anything here but this episode is fantastic. Only the "background music" got on my nerves since it was partly so loud, I could barely understand what the actors said. I love music and it's very important to underline the atmosphere but here it was just over the top. Beside that: bravo!

Best show on!
Julisa92127 April 2024
If I could rate this episode and the show actually, any higher than 10 I would! It is so good! Solid acting, fresh, entertaining and funny. The story lines are excellent! It has all the elements that anybody who watches TV would love and if you like any kind of PD, FD or criminal investigation type show, this show, The Rookie is for you.! I cried just after I said "wow, she is one bad ass Captain". Trying not to spoil, but WOW! I got chills with an honor guard and the respect factor. Please, do yourself a favor tune in to this show on ABC I'm not sure what night of the week I watch it on Hulu. Just find this show and watch it. They are currently in season six so you've got a lot to binge.

No one is pointing out that a character was prematurely written out
drone24-322-38835621 March 2019
Wrong. Bad. No matter what the real reason is! There has to be a better way to have done that, especially with the show so young and full of potential! Very bad writing choice!

Why would you end an intriguing and promising side story?
ruller2allnall2 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The show was doing fine until now, I really don't understand why they forced this illogical turn of events to produce shock drama. I was watching with interest why the captain was on Nolans side and even seeing a connection between them. I really like the show and the actors because it reminded me of Southland(2009-2013), but I prefer The Rookie for not being a dark drama, and the subtle comedy makes it more enjoyable. But they had to ruin it with this cop drama classical cliche; I still hope this episode will have a point that will be revealed later, if not, then is just a poor attempt at a GOT heartbreak, and the 5 stars rating will remain. Not a deal breaker tho, I'm still going to watch it.

WHY????????????
messremb25 March 2019
Well, I kinda' liked the show- it's mostly the mediocre procedural crap the networks flood the screens every year, but for the sprinkles of genuine quality that dot the episodes here and there; and the thoroughly likeable characters the writers keep putting in once in a blue moon. Create a strong, fierce, intelligent, magnificently badass woman character and then kill it for a cheap moment- what a waste! All the gorgeous writing that could have been done with it and all they could do is reduce the show to a sausage fest and three fill-in female characters. I'm a dude- don't care if it colors my review in any way, but my interest for this show dropped from "could be great" to just above "meh".

Unbelievable, inaccurate & chessy
dlh-4896422 March 2019
Sick of the liberal writing & Im a liberal. Lets be fair white supremacy groups are extremely rare in LA California & if they are in LA they are small & extremely weak. Stop making the public scared of a gang that is tiny & weak. Its more of a back east gang (where the population is mostly white). Being born & raised in LA Im a liberal of course however I see hispanic & african american gangs far more everyday on the LA streets so please lets be realistic no matter what your political view at least show the real truth of whats going on in our streets. If they want to write about gangs then be accurate tell the truth how hispanic gangs are taking over LA & the hispanic & african american gangs are targeting eachother everyday even children that arent in gangs. So talking about an unrealistic "white supremacy gang" saying they are running the streets of LA is made up by BOTH political parties. Leave politics out of the episodes, & if you wanna write about the gangs in LA tell the truth! Or just dont make the episode about gangs at all. Anyways the episode was very disappointing & so chessy. I think this episode stirs the pot & spreads inaccurate information.
