Danny is one selfish man
mkelly5422 August 2021
There are a lot of moving parts to this story, but the one that sticks out the most to me is Danny and his selfishness. I know many people will disagree with my assessment and that's as it should be.

Overall, the story is running down a melodramatic rabbit hole that leaves me wanting more science fiction. I''ll stock around for a few more ... it'll be a struggle and I'll give it my best shot.

Sort of "meh"
rallder1924 June 2021
This show is like the 4400, Lost, and Heroes all rolled up into one but somehow much worse.

It seems to have taken pieces from each of these shows But misses the mark on each one.

Bland writing and the fact that they're muttering the words, "it's a calling" every 5 minutes just makes this show sort of irritating

It's entertaining enough, if you just want to put something on, but if you're looking for a deep story with likable characters look somewhere else..

Good show building epiisode
Hillius23 May 2021
Any show needs at least several good episodes in order to help build the characters and develop the plot, and many shows that turn out to be good have taken an entire season to get on track.

Reviewers who are marking this as as soap opera must have missed that this is in fact a drama. In order to enjoy a show the viewer needs to possess a bit of empathy so that they can get emotionally invested in the characters they watch, otherwise you might do better sticking to mindless action movies of which there are plenty.

This episode was slower, but hardly dull. Instead we get to see the lives of those who were affected by the flight 828's disappearance during it's missing five year span. Jared and Lourdes are shown, as well as Michaela and Ben's parents. We see how everyone was affected, how they coped as well as how they began to move on with their lives while trying to make peace with the past. Then of course we see the reactions as the news is learned of the planes reappearance and landing.

Bethany's plan to help Thomas goes askew as Ben and Cal spend a day bonding while looking to exert some personal control of their seemingly controlled lives. Jared's disciplinary hearing goes better than expected, Vance seeks more control. Ben decides to be involved despite not wanting to be.

It is understandable that some viewers might find the material a bit too smarmy at times resembling something more from the Hallmark channel than an actual sci fi offering. Still it is nice to see a better more family appropriate show that is both entertaining and emotionally uplifting while still keeping the characters mostly believable.

Missing this time around was any further progression into the mystery of the voices and visions. It will be interesting to see what else Saanvi can reveal about their shared condition and we know this show has more to reveal. I'm going to keep watching to see where this rabbit hole leads. 7/10.

Two minutes sci fi, forty minutes bad soap opera

No exaggeration.

My high hopes for this one are being lowered every episode.

Very boring, everyone's got anxiety and depression.

Wrong direction

This, as noted in other posts has become a soap opera. Was looking for more. Hopefully season two will change my mind.

The show is fast pace, well done, full of mystery. I don't know what they watch.

Lame

Looks like I forgot to review this one when I originally watched it. Fortunately I hadn't forgotten to rate it so I still know this episode felt silly and had a lackluster story. The premise of seeing more backstory was good but it really faltered for me.

It's All Connected [8/10]

Warning: Spoilers
Reaction / Review for Manifest Season 1 Episode 5: Episode 4 was great and I gave it a rating of 8/10. This episode has flashbacks which is nice because we get to see what happened during the 5 year period. Nice to see Ben and Cal spending some time together. Ben keeps hearing ''it's all connected'', im curious now. So now Cal also has these powers, interesting. It seems like Lourdes is suspicious about Michaela and Jared. Olive thinks of Danny as her dad? Now that's some nonsense. Overall this was an entertaining episode, we still don't have any answers to the many questions but I can wait. My rating is 8/10.

That's it, I'm done.

Started off with great promise for a sci-fi show and inside 5 episodes has descended into days of our lives. It's gonna be cancelled so may as well bail out early.

That's right, let's all cheat on our spouses
MiketheWhistle23 October 2018
I'm so glad at a time when more than half of children are born outside of a family that the show would suggest getting divorced because someone that was believed dead just happens to reappear when everything else is ok. And I expect to find the guy that happen to find Grace is somehow heading a deep secret beyond wanting to take the guy's wife. Do people get divorced, engage and not get married, etc; yes. But presenting relationships as they do simply isn't for me. I do find it interesting that the same-sex couple all is good. They should be as unhappy in marriage as traditional marriages. After all, misery loves company.

Does this get any better?
Dbgjle8 December 2022
My wife and I are watching this for the first time ever with the intent of watching all 4 seasons, based on the scores here on IMDB. However, we feel like we are watching old episodes of the O. C. or something. Does it get any better? So far it is just a family drama/nighttime soap opera.... We are going to continue to give it a chance as there MUST be a reason that Netflix picked it up for a season 4, but come on. I am wondering why at this point. Okay, only a few episodes in at this point, but there is nothing sci-fi or mysterious at all, in the least. A great idea, but wondering what is going on...

An insult to intellect.
jeroen-10624 June 2023
Manifest Season 1 Episode 5 was nothing short of a disappointment. What initially seemed to be a promising concept has descended into an uncanny valley of soap opera-esque melodrama. The acting leaves much to be desired, with overly emotional performances that would be more at home on an afternoon soap opera than a primetime network drama. The actors seem to be grasping at straws in an attempt to make the audience feel something-anything-for their characters, but it only results in a caricature-like portrayal that detracts from any semblance of reality the show might have had.

Then there's the writing, which is, to put it kindly, underwhelming. The dialogue is stilted and formulaic, as if it was hastily pulled together with little consideration for character development or narrative consistency. The plot stumbles along, with characters making decisions that seem to serve no other purpose than to contrive a new crisis.

However, the most egregious fault lies in the show's use of music. The constant cliché tunes are as grating as they are manipulative. They're meant to evoke an emotional response, but instead, they feel like a clumsy attempt to strong-arm the viewer into feeling something that isn't organically nurtured by the storyline. This audio assault becomes increasingly exasperating as it repeats itself, creating a sense of annoyance rather than the intended emotional engagement.

In the end, Manifest Season 1 Episode 5 is a failed exercise in emotional manipulation, poor writing, and melodramatic acting. It's a forgettable episode that left a lasting impression for all the wrong reasons.

You can skip this one.

I almost quit. I'm binging it on Netflix, so far so good. I'm already on episode 7 but thia one with its 'the message' and soap-opera... bored me.

This is a good series so far (I'm finishing season 1 on January 2023). It may not be as complicated as Dark but it is also good when it focuses on what the premise told me it was about: SCI-Fy.

I may be biased against dramas.

I despise bait-n-switch shows. I didn't come here to see real life family drama or politics. I was sold adter the pilot and knowing Robert Zemeckis produced it to an extent. Also, it has FOUR seasons! It must be good! Right?
