Gotham feels like a movie.
EddyTheMartian0074 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Woah this episode was excellent. Everything has improved drastically.

The first thing I notice is just how big this episode felt. The cinematography, the music, the set design, the effects, it almost felt like a movie.

The writing has also improved, already giving us some great memorable lines.

I'm really intrigued to see how the characters develop. Depressed Selina was seriously dark, and honestly heart breaking to watch. Tabitha's death, while predictable, and convenient, was a long time coming and it honestly felt epic. The rivalry brewed by Oswald and Barbara. Oswald this episode was also fantastic, he's seriously owned the crime lord role.

If I'd have any complaints with the episode it would probably be Nygma. It's a small thing, but I'm tired of his back and forth thing with the Riddler and himself. I hope it gets resolved quickly because I want to see full on Riddler.

Also like I said earlier Tabitha's death, and a few other things in the episode felt to continent.

This episode is more of an introduction. It leaves a lot of loose ends already. It didn't really feel that much like it's own concise episode, but it was seriously great.

If the season continues to be of this quality, Gotham's final season might its best, and just am all around amazing season.

Pretty good
mark-752544 January 2019
This episode was a foundation. A foundation than gotham needed to try to wrap up 5 years of storyline in 12 episodes. I think that this episode did its job, but I am expecting a little more from the episodes to come.

Best season premiere of the show... One of the best episodes overall
brandongraz4 January 2019
I've been waiting somewhat patiently for this season for a few months. I must say everything this season promised, it delivered. The showrunners knew this was it and they laid everything out perfectly for the beginning. All the crazy and insanity in this show has come down to this and for the first episode, it's everything you could've hoped for. If the rest of season is as good as this episode, it's going to be not just the best season of Gotham, but one of the best seasons to air on tv in recent memory

This is the way the Dark Knight survives

Warning: Spoilers
Here we have the penultimate version of Gotham, it has all led up to this war for empty turf leading to backstabbing , killings and ruthless behavior! I am excited over the turn of events, great solid performance with the beginnings of the True Dark Knight behavior. Sick dark dimensions drive me to really want and enjoy what's going to happen! So cleverly written!

No Man's Land, a story arc that'll be an success
Holt3444 January 2019
I've looked forward to No Man's Land since the bridges blew and here we are and it didn't disappoint. How Gotham is split up in areas with gangs reminds me off the movie The Warriors and its concept works perfectly here as we got well developed characters/villains with actors that does them justice. How the writers tackled the story with some realism made it interesting and the set design helped a ton with the immersion. Danny Cannon did an incredible job at directing the season premiere, he knows the actors and character so it made it an excellent premiere. I cant wait to see what happens next!

Really Good Start
Sam_Morningstar5 January 2019
'Year Zero' is the pilot of the final season of Gotham. It was an interesting episode. The acting was really spot on especially Ben McKenzie and David Mazouz. David Mazouz, has the essence of Bruce Wayne and Ben McKenzie has the essence of Jim Gordon. The directing was really good. The videography was beautifully done. The story played out and divided really well. They have adapted The 'No Mans Land' Story Arc very well. We get to see a pretty good Proto-Batman. The finale was a bit lackluster but it can be overlooked.

So overall, I am looking forward to the next episode.

Awesome premiere. The best!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Wow that was great. Gotham is hands down the best comic book tv show out there. Better than the Netflix Marvels ( and I'm a giant Marvel fan ) and the declining CW shows. Gotham has hit the ground running on all cylinders and the preview for the upcoming season looks nothing short of spectacular with the Dark Knight, Harley Quinn and Bane showing up at some point. Can't wait!!!!

Simply Amazing
paulkouba-336296 January 2019
This episode was amazing. A well written plot for each character. Nice start. Nice ending. And Gotham needed it to sadly wrap up their show. So in general, it's simply amazing.

Good.... not great, good

Warning: Spoilers
Gotham's 5th season has been a long time coming, but I can safely say that this first episode justifies that wait and promises a bright future for the coming 11 episodes.

This is probably the best 1st episode Gotham has seen yet, with an interesting storyline, interesting cinematography and even a charachter death, which raises the stakes for the rest of the season. That opening scene was amazing, although we now already kinda know who's gonna survive the season, at least until a certain point.

I also really loved the acting of the main cast, Mazouz was solid, McKenzie was great and even though he was barely in it, Pertwee can do no wrong in my eyes.

On top of that, Gotham introduces something we haven't seen in quite a while: Mystery. There is an air of mystery surrounding (mostly the new) characters and story. This is partially because of the raised stakes

Despite all this, there were also quite a few flaws with this episode, mostly that 2 of the 3 main action scenes were shot kinda bad. I'm referring to the first two action scenes, mostly the scarecrow one. While the quick cuts might've enhanced the tension somewhat, it made the fight itself kinda hard to follow and uninteresting, and I would've much preferred some longer takes or at least less close-ups and quick cuts. The second fight had a cool concept, but the execution was less amazing. My biggest problem with this scene is that because of the way it was shot having quite a few restrictions, Bruce seemed a bit slower and weaker than usual. On a positive note: I have zero complaints about the big action scene, that was exceptionally done.

My other complaint is that while the main cast is amazing, the secondary characters' acting was pretty bad, for example the woman talking about 'the witch' felt like she missed a couple of lessons at acting school. There were a few other duds, but overall solid performances and a solid episode.

GCPD has a helipad doesn't it??

Warning: Spoilers
Overall good premiere, but the helicopter passed GCPD to go to a "rendezvous point" before getting shot down instead of the landing at GCPD...

Welcome back...Gotham is getting bigger and darker!
asb_deutsch2 March 2019
Finally, I have caught up with the pace of season by season. After the disappointing villains and monotonous drama of Season 1, we are now seeing Captain Gordan and the super-villains. I always like Ben McKenzie and this episode showed his true form! I find huge potential in the upcoming episodes. I just hope the carry the momentum of the finale season just like this episode and hope no more filler-episodes, please!

Dumb And Dumber
nebohr6 August 2021
So- if everyone had evacuated Gotham then what? The "government" would take what action, exactly? Selina has spinal surgery and is rolling around in her bed like nothing happened? The helicopter gets shot down but is nearly in one piece in the garage? I could go on and on but I think I've made my point.

Not bad start
MiketheWhistle13 July 2019
For what is the final season I think there are good indications because they are turning over cast which means they aren't trying to preserve anything. All that considered I found it to only be a so-so ep. When a show is willing to sacrifice cast, although this show tends to also bring them back from the dead, it's a great indication that they will take the story line to new places. I was surprised to find this rated 9.9 before aired though.

No one has discovered this exotic technology? With all the wealth left behind in Gotham, smugglers would bring in whatever they could sell. People wanting to leave, would leave.

Warning: Spoilers
The rotten swine killed Tabatha, took away one of the best reasons for watching the series. Otherwise a good and as ever depressing start to a series.
