Oh that will teach me. The season opener was great. This isn't. Marge gets her dream to go on a reality tv show and it all goes wrong, and martial strife results. The main plot once again is just a single plotline with no b plots to fill out the time, but it's one of those episodes that spends so much time on the plot it doesn't manage to be funny. The hit rate of jokes is very poor, with only a few good laughs and a handful of chuckles. And there's a parody sequence. If it hadn't been for imdb, I would have had no idea of what it was they were parodying. However: The actual pay off to the main plot is quite different, and not something they've done before. So the final scene is good. Just a shame it takes too long to get there, and the journey isn't fun.

Just awful

The only redeeming part of this episode is Homer's song about what it's like to live in a hotel. The rest was unfunny and bland. It didn't work as comedy, it didn't work as parody. I hope this episode isn't indicative of the show's current quality as a whole - if it is then we're a far cry from The Simpsons I used to know and love.

Makes fun of reality television

This episode does a fairly good job of making fun of reality television competitions. However, the episode is hampered by one of the show's weakest musical numbers and a movie spoof that goes on too long and may alienate younger audience members.

Another mass produced episode

There are worse episodes out there, but it's still pretty damn bland

The greyscale parody in the middle was too obscure and lengthy for me. I almost turned it off. Yawn

A great episode!

I don't understand the negative reception of this ep. It was really funny, made a good reference of a classic movie of the sixties, and another example of how marge and homer can go through tough times and care for one another! Take that critics!

Prepare to be disappointed !

I'm afraid the downward spiral continues. I've never turned an episode of The Simpsons off but this came close. The Simpsons used to appeal to everyone but episodes like this just show how the writer's have lost touch with the audience, instead of trying to show how clever they are with obscure references they should try entertaining the fans and win back some of those who have turned their backs on this once great show. Shame !!!!

I only dip into modern simpsons occasionally but my god its bad. The greyscale segment in the middle of the episode made me feel hugely embarrassed for them. Its painfully bad.

Warning: Spoilers
I agree with a previous reviewer - this is an episode that starts very well and then goes downhill and never recovers after the black and white scene.

I know the creative powers that be are obviously trying to shake things up with the show and do some quirky things, but this didn't work for me.

It's a shame really, because this episode was going along nicely for me up to that point.

There was a sense of heart about the piece, and some nice focus on the Homer and Marge relationship.

Unfortunately though once we came back from the black and white scene the episode seemed to fade away.

Not uncommon for a recent episode of the show.
