Arr you ready to walk the plank into some sexy, swashbuckling pirate action? Well, then you’re about as lucky as a treasure chest full of gold coins, because all four seasons of Black Sails are now streaming on Netflix.
The historical adventure drama, which originally ran on Starz from 2014 to 2017, hails from creators Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine. Black Sails combines characters from Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island with real historical figures and events to make an action-packed prequel to the classic 1883 adventure novel.
The pilot episode is directed by Neil Marshall, who also helmed Game of Thrones’ famous nautical battle episode “Blackwater,” which should give you some idea of what Black Sails is like. And action movie maestro Michael Bay is one of the series’ executive producers, which should definitely give you a sense of its scale. It’s an ambitious show...

Although films like The Upside and The Man From Toronto have had Hart before in slightly less comedy-centric roles, the actor-comedian has never before starred in a film where his role as the lead marked a shift as significant as Ryan Reynold’s Magnet S. Johnson in 6 Underground. Directed by F.Gary Gray, and written by Daniel Kunka, Hart’s...

Netflix shelled out a staggering $20 million for “Hit Man,” a (sort of) true-crime comedy from director Richard Linklater and star Glen Powell. The streaming service has acquired rights in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and other key international territories.
The movie, which played to enthusiastic crowds at Venice and Toronto film festivals, has been one of the few notable sales from this year’s fall festival circuit. Netflix also acquired Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut “Woman of the Hour” out of TIFF for $11 million, while A24 nabbed the Colman Domingo-led “Sing Sing.” But deals have been slow to come together for other movies on the market, such as Chris Pine’s “Poolman” or Viggo Mortensen’s “The Dead Don’t Hurt.”

Michael Bay was a decade into his film directing career when Steven Spielberg and "Transformers" beckoned. He'd established himself as a maestro of mayhem — or, as we call it now, "Bayhem." He made the $19 million budgeted "Bad Boys" look like a $75 million action extravaganza, and the $75 million budgeted "The Rock" look like one of the most expensive action movies ever made. Had Bay arrived on the scene in the 1980s, he would've been making high-style, ultra-violent shoot-em-ups with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Unfortunately, at the turn of the millennium, four-quadrant tentpole blockbusters were all the rage, which meant Bay had to stifle his R-rated urges and deliver PG-13 spectacle for maximum worldwide grosses. He delivered with "Armageddon," and, to a lesser degree, the distressingly bloodless "Pearl Harbor," which gave him carte blanche to make one of the most morally reprehensible (yet spectacularly entertaining) studio action movies of all time...

Gal Gadot leads the streamer’s latest ambitious franchise-starter that delivers just about enough dumb summer fun to have us curious for more
There were some impossible calculations made this summer in the making and marketing of Tom Cruise’s seventh mission as Ethan Hunt, the gambit of a gargantuan almost $300m budget yet to prove a decision well-made, the sequel heading for a somewhat destructive financial reckoning. But before the final tally is in, the film’s production company Skydance is hoping for a far easier win with similarly themed thriller Heart of Stone, a potential Netflix franchise-starter, cushioned by lower costs and lower stakes.
There’s also, predictably, a lower level of enjoyment to be had here but given the sky-high bar Cruise has set for the Mission: Impossible series, that doesn’t mean that the streamer’s copycat caper is as unrewarding as one might expect. Netflix...

French actress Mélanie Laurent has really taken her career into her own hands in the last few years. While she really turned heads with one of the lead roles in Quentin Tarantino’s WWII movie “Inglourious Basterds” and immediately grabbed Hollywood’s ear—starring in films like “Beginners,” “Now You See Me,” “By The Sea” and Michael Bay’s “6 Underground”— she also quickly turned to her own projects and became a filmmaker almost as soon as she popped up onto the global stage.

‘Heart of Stone’ Trailer: Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt Star in Action-Packed Netflix Movie
Gal Gadot is going from superhero to super spy in the action-packed first trailer for the international espionage thriller “Heart of Stone.”
Gadot was joined by co-stars Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt at Netflix’s Tudum fan festival in São Paulo, Brazil, where the trio debuted the film’s first trailer. The footage features heart-stopping stunts, like Gadot’s Rachel Stone — an intelligence operative for a shadowy global peacekeeping agency — skydiving from a death-defying height.
Stone’s steely demeanor and adrenaline-junkie habits are explained as her boss (Sophie Okonedo) warns, “You know what you signed up for. No friends, no relationships… What we do is too important. When governments fail, the only thing left is the Charter.”
Stone and Dornan’s Parker are among the organization’s highly-trained agents, who have no political leanings or national allegiances and are described as “working together to keep peace in a turbulent world.

While many directors have embraced the streaming world, it’s safe to say that we won’t see Quentin Tarantino making a movie for Netflix anytime soon.
While speaking with Deadline, Quentin Tarantino took aim at streaming services where it feels like the projects exist to feed the content machine instead of being remembered. “I mean, and I’m not picking on anybody, but apparently for Netflix, Ryan Reynolds has made $50 million on this movie and $50 million on that movie and $50 million on the next movie for them,” Tarantino said. “I don’t know what any of those movies are. I’ve never seen them. Have you? I haven’t ever talked to Ryan Reynolds’ agent, but his agent is like, ‘Well, it cost $50 million.’ Well, good for him that he’s making so much money. But those movies don’t exist in the zeitgeist. It’s almost like they don’t even exist.

One of the things we love most about the dark Showtime series “Yellowjackets” is all the fantastic ’90s music. Half of the show takes place in 1996, when high school girls’ soccer team crash lands in the wilderness and half is set 25 years later, with the still traumatized adult survivors.
Season 2 features an exclusive track by Florence + the Machine, an eerie cover of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl,” Sharon Van Etten’s “Seventeen,” and such ’90s feminist icons as Tori Amos.
And of course, we love the kind of creepy main title theme, “No Return,” by Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker. The opening credits from Season 1 teased some of the things we would see unfold, and the updated Season 2 credits sequence also gives us hints at what we’ll see in upcoming episodes.

Ryan Reynolds has starred in several big-budget movies for Netflix, including “6 Underground”, “Red Notice” and “The Adam Project”, in addition to the holiday musical “Spirited” for Apple TV+.
Despite that prodigious output, Reynolds’ streaming movies have eluded director Quentin Tarantino, who took a shot at the “Deadpool” star in a recent interview with Deadline.
The director of such acclaimed features as “Pulp Fiction” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” has long proclaimed to be no fan of movies produced for streaming services, used Reynolds as an example.

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for Yellowjackets, Season 2 Episode 8, “It Chooses.”]
After a riveting first season filled with sonic callbacks to the ’90s, Season 2 of Showtime’s Yellowjackets kicked off with a similarly wistful tone, thanks to the new trailer, spotlighting Florence and the Machine’s cover of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl.”
Season 1 of the series took viewers back to 1996 when a young group of soccer players survives a plane crash and the aftermath forced the characters to deal with a string of psychologically unfortunate events. Considering when the story starts, music from the era is paramount to the series. So far, we’ve heard everything from Portishead’s “Glory Box” to “Rump Shaker” by Wreckx-n-Effect in the series, with Season 2 promising to keep that same energy while jumping in between timelines.

Fresh off of its debut at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Disney and 20th Century Studios have released the trailer for "A Haunting in Venice." This is the latest Hercule Poirot mystery directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also plays the famed detective. This time around, we're getting a straight-up supernatural thriller based on Agatha Christie's novel "Hallowe'en Party." While there were some creepy vibes in both "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Death on the Nile," this looks like a straight-up horror flick with a stellar cast.
Branagh has a stacked A-list cast to work with this time around, including recent Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh ("Everything Everywhere All at Once"), as well as Oscar-winning "Joker" composer Hildur Guđnadóttir. This one feels like it has success written all over it. Not to show my hand here, but this trailer looks pretty damn great, as does the poster, and you can check out both below.

Word dropped Tuesday afternoon that Netflix isn’t moving forward on “Paris Paramount,” a romantic comedy that was expected to star Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, Michael Fassbender and Penelope Cruz about a filmmaking duo who reunite on set after falling in and out of love with one another. Meyers, who hasn’t directed a feature since Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro’s “The Intern,” wanted a budget of $150 million, while Netflix drew the line at $130 million, an insider told TheWrap.
“That sounds like too high of a budget for [Netflix],” a well-respected film director told TheWrap on what they would consider to be a medium-budget movie.
“Nancy Meyers always has budget issues,” the top talent rep said.
With no residuals or back-end bonuses on the table to offset costs, $80 million of that budget would’ve gone to above-the-line expenses.

Michael Bay is insisting he’s not a pigeon-killer after being hit with charges in Italy due to allegations surrounding the filming of his 2018 Netflix movie “6 Underground”.
The charges stem from claims that a pigeon was killed by a dolly during a take in the midst of production in Rome; pigeons and other wild birds are protected species in Italy under federal law.
An “unnamed individual who happened to be on set” reportedly witnessed the bird’s death during a scene that involved numerous pigeons and a wind machine.

Bay, however, is flat-out denying that any pigeons were harmed.
“I am a well-known animal lover and major animal activist,” Bay said in a statement to TheWrap.
“No animal involved in the production was injured or harmed. Or on any other production I’ve worked on,” he continued.
“We have clear video evidence,...

“Transformers” director Michael Bay is fighting back against a widely seen report that said he was charged in Italy for killing a pigeon during production on the 2019 Netflix film, “6 Underground”.
The filmmaker called the report “false, reckless, and defamatory”, and says he was never charged with killing an animal, reports ‘Variety’.
In a legal letter, obtained by ‘Variety’, Bay’s attorney is demanding a retraction or correction from ‘TheWrap’, after the Hollywood trade publication published a report this past week regarding the pigeon incident.
The filmmaker’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, says TheWrap’s story states that Bay has been accused or “charged” with “killing a pigeon” in connection with the film he directed. “Those statements are simply wrong; they are also harmful,” Rosengart writes.

Michael Bay found himself in the headlines this week when a widely-circulated story in TheWrap alleged that a homing pigeon was killed by a dolly on the set of his film “6 Underground” in 2018. Bay vigorously denied the claim that he was facing charges for the alleged incident, saying in a statement that “no animal involved in the production was injured or harmed. Or on any other production I’ve worked on in the past 30 years.”
Now, Bay is threatening to take legal action against the publication. A new letter from Bay’s attorneys (first obtained by Variety) gives an even stronger denial of the story and calls for the story to be retracted.
“As you know, Mr. Bay was never accused, much less ‘charged,’ with ‘killing’ an animal,” the letter reads. “Indeed, prior to publication, you were placed on notice of the existence of video evidence rebutting these allegations...

Michael Bay may be known for his onscreen explosions, but one behind-the-scenes action sequence on a Bay-helmed set may be putting the director in court.
The “Transformers” director is currently facing charges in Italy related to killing a homing pigeon during the 2018 production of Netflix film “6 Underground” in Rome. The Wrap reported that Bay has made several attempts to clear his name with Italian authorities and has repeatedly denied the charges.
“I am a well-known animal lover and major animal activist,” Bay said in a statement to the outlet. “No animal involved in the production was injured or harmed. Or on any other production I’ve worked on in the past 30 years.”
Bay continued, “We have clear video evidence, a multitude of witnesses, and safety officers that exonerates us from these claims. And disproves their one paparazzi photo — which gives a false story.”
He added, “I was offered by...
