"Blue Valentime" (#4.21)
aaronredis2 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Phew. I'm not ok right now.

This was so tough to watch. I love Dre and Bo together, and it's so hard to watch them at odds. I'm pulling for them both to make amends.

I would sometimes think Bo was too good for Dre, but I always thought they made such a great family together. These two deserve so much happiness. I hope they work it out. Bo especially has been breaking my already fragile heart this season. This was especially true in episode #4.2. She's such a strong wife and mother.

I really credit the writers for taking on a more serious tone. This show has always dealt with more serious issues with such grace and candor, and everytime they do it, they get better at it. I think this just further proves it because they took it one step further and it brings the show to a whole other level.

I love Coldplay, too, so they just made two songs even more emotionally draining for me. The use of the songs was very effective. They were perfect choices because Coldplay made it even harder to watch.

I also want to congratulate the person who directed this beautiful episode. The way they reflected the conflict in changes in lighting and color was very well done.

This show is so good. It outdoes so many others in its genre time and time again. This episode was especially very well done. I'm so wowed with this episode. It was honest, true, and raw. It's not something you find in shows like these.

I give "Blue Valentime" a 9.0/10.

Unexpected

Warning: Spoilers
I dont follow the show closely but am a fan.

I caught part of the episode nearly the end and became so curious that had to rewind to watch from the beginning.

I must admit it was a piece of real life, executed perfectly, to which i could relate so perfectly unfortunately that tears came to my eyes. The shade of grey the senseless discussions the exhaustion.

Sometimes love is not enough and that is well demonstrated as best as i have ever seen, specially in two caracteres we so much like to see together.

Well done in every way and for me specifically for the unexpected and realistic touch to it.

So much so that i felt the need to express my feedback in some way, registered imdb et voilá said my piece

Makes you think

Not your typical episode. I see many low ratings...I get it...this episode was not funny. It was however "real". In a series of humor...it's worthwhile to bring reality into play....this episode did that. Now I will say we all watch mostly for laughs and don't want every episode to be such a downer...but this one for me gives you a fresh look at the characters and probably some common ground to reflect on.

Perfect episode
brightest-fairy29 April 2020
People rating this episode one star is absolutely madness. I get that you watch this show to have fun, laugh, if you want drama you pick other shows, but you can't deny this was executed to perfection. beautiful cinematography and real issues that every couple has dealt with. Rating a one because it made you sad it's childlike.

Hated it

Warning: Spoilers
Why would Dre and Bow break up?!!? They're such a good couple who love each other, and suddenly, out of the blue, they are on the verge of a divorce. The next 2 episodes are really cruddy as well. I'm just glad that they made up, and that the whole thing is forgotten.this.

Shocking!
carolekingg27 February 2020
Caring for my dying father in 2018, I didn't get to see much of this show. Getting a quiet lunch today I was glad to see Blackish, a comedy I thought, was on. What a shock seeing a drama on there! Good show, but not what I expected!

WTF?

Warning: Spoilers
This show has shown a strong marriage and family and now for some reason they are going in this marriage on the rocks direction. I am not liking it at all. If I want to see a dysfunctional marriage I just have to look at most of the other so called comedies out there. I loved Dre & Bow together.

Is the series ending and someone thought having them get divorced was a good idea? If this continues I'm done with Black-ish.

Different but Entertaining
sizda29 May 2020
This episode in particular was very different from the other episodes, which is a nice twist. It's very sad though, which I loved as it added more thrill and made you feel something different. This episode made me cry sooo much! I'm still crying. This episode was very unexpected but it was very worth the watch! When it showed the flashbacks, I couldn't stop crying.

It's Amazing
gordonsdottir3 December 2020
The fact that they were able to pull off such a compelling, emotional drama without the cheesiness that other comedic sitcoms fall prey to in their attemps, I find simply amazing. So good!

Very depressing
davetrou3 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It's not that this episode wasn't done well; it was. But I don't watch Blackish with the goal of getting depressed. And this episode was really depressing, not funny, and genuinely painful and unpleasant to watch. Who wants to watch two people hurt each other as their relationship falls apart? Not me. I don't know if I'll even watch future episodes. Big fail in my book.

No longer a comedy, no longer interested
hmoomaw4 May 2018
4 strong years of a comedy, and now the writers are making this a drama. There are dozens of other TV dramas and soap-opera style shows on television. We simply don't need another one, especially when such a tremendous ensemble of comedic talent is wasted in this genre. ABC should know better. This show is broadcast is a grouping of "comedies". Shoehorning in a drama is not what viewers desire. Thank you ABC for The Middle and its great family-based tales that Black-ish used to present. Sadly, the Middle is wrapping up its run, and now I've deleted Black-ish from my season record list due to lack of interest. Hopefully Diane and Charlie can appear together in the future on another series of movie.

Too hard
mariadoloresmolina17 July 2018
As a dramatic episode it's a 10, but I didn't expect so much drama and it's been really hard to watch. I don't think I can watch the last two episodes, indeed we have decided not to watch them.

THIS EPISODE SUCKED
A-thompson-junior21 May 2018
I hope the next season goes back to what we were introduced to. We dont want or need this new stuff.

Blackish listen to the reviews. People can go look for other things to watch. If we wanted drama we could go watch scandal or greys!

It sucks

If I want to get depressed I would prefer to not waist my time at least, you are looking for something to lift your spirit in comedy not something to depress you even more.
