This 41-minute retrospective documentary offers an interesting and informative glimpse at the making of the offbeat and inspired horror fantasy musical "The Lure." Director Agnieszka Smoczynska reveals that she grew up in a restaurant with a dance floor similar to the one featured in the film. Songwriters Barbara and Zuzanna Wronskie also grew up in a nightclub, plus the characters of Silver and Golden were patterned after them. Moreover, we also learn that the basic story is a variation on Hans Christian Anderson's "The Little Mermaid," Smoczynska wanted to veer away from the cutesy Disney take on mermaids and make them more monstrous and mysterious instead, casting the two leads took one and a half years (about 2,000 girls were tested), the movie was shot at the legendary nightclub the Adria, and the lead actresses trained for several months for their roles (for example, they had to learn a different way of walking since the mermaids weren't used to being on land). Recommended viewing for fans of the film.
