This episode tore me apart. In 2010, an entire family was murdered by someone they trusted. Joey McStay, a kind husband and father, thought he could turn an evil monster into a human being. Charles Chase Merritt, an ex felon with a gambling addiction, was McStay's business partner and "friend". McStay thought he was giving Merritt a chance to turn his life around. Instead of Merritt being thankful for McStay's friendship and kindness, he took McStay, his wife and their 3 year old and 5 year old boys to the Mojave Desert and bludgeoned them all to death with a hammer. When I think of the pain this family, especially those babies, suffered, I can't hold back my tears. I hope there is a special place in hell for monsters like Merritt. Merritt has been sitting on death row since 2020. It's not fair that he gets to breathe for this long after what he did.
