Its ok
am-by13 July 2021
Its very sad for the people involved but usa is entitled to set and enforce whatever border laws it wants. Not sure the point of the movie other than to show the struggle people go through but it didnt show anything new. Its fairly low budget, well acted and a perfect length. I dont live in Usa but wonder should there be more focus on the countries these people are are coming from rather than where they are trying to go.

A heart-wrenching immigration story
SoccerPhreak21 March 2020
Heart-wrenching? Yes. True to reality? Perhaps. I don't like the idea of separating parents and children, ever, but ...

I was raised with the understanding that rules have consequences, either good or bad. If you follow the rules the consequences are positive. If you break the rules the consequences are ultimately negative, as seen in Collisions.

This movie seems to have a bent toward the leftist side of the political arena and attack President Donald Trump and his policies. But I can't help but think that if Evencio could be in the United States and have his green card, then why not his sister Yoana? If someone doesn't follow the rules to legally be a resident of the US then the consequences are usually dire as this movie portrayed.

Regardless of which side a person stands regarding immigration, I think this movie is a must see.

One sided view of Immigration laws
bernwv-935-46200927 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A woman enters the US illegally and faces the consequences of her actions. She has children in the United States and is a single mother. We are supposed to feel sorry for her, but she is the one who put herself and her children in this situation. It's all on her. Liberals will love it.

Wonderful film!
NatandBen24 September 2020
This is a beautiful story about a family's love and perseverance despite the shock, chaos, fear, and heartbreak of their family separation. But it is also a suspenseful road picture, an adventure with great cinematography, and a story of reconciliation, resilience, and redemption. The subject matter is very timely and controversial given the inhumane treatment of immigrant families in the news, but you are not hit over the head with preachy speeches about it. Instead, the story is primarily told through the eyes of the primary character, a 14 year old brilliant girl with her own hopes and dreams just reacting to her world turned upside down and doing everything she can to reunite her family. Another reviewer suggested we should stop humanizing people in these situations. I couldn't disagree more. Collisions is a great movie, but it should also be celebrated for reminding us all of our shared humanity and our responsibility to treat each other with empathy, compassion, and dignity.

Timely, poignant film...

This is a wonderful character-driven film that is timely, heartbreaking, redemptive, and important. COLLISIONS was made a few years ago, before the awful immigration policies of the U.S. government went full-on nuclear toward our southern neighbors. Ahead of its time, it shows the big picture of what's going on with our border wars with a fairly simple story of a loving, broken, and displaced Mexican family going through a harrowing experience that threatens their survival as a unit. I just found out that the young actress, Izabella Alvarez, won the Imagen Award for her key role in it. That's what reminded me of the film, and the reason to post this review. Do yourself a favor, and check out not just her moving performance, but a a great indie flick, as well!

Powerful and timely!
arthousefilms-68-93971722 August 2020
Wow, is it art imitating life or the other way around? This is a beautiful and compelling film that puts the humanity on the ICE/Immigrant situation! The film is so powerful because it puts faces and personalities on the statistics of how inhumane Trump's treatment of immigrants has been.

Bravo to this film for peeling back caricatures painted the xenophobic right wing Americans and giving us a look at the real human cost of such harsh immigration policies.

The film is beautifully shot, well-acted, accessible, and extremely poignant. If people don't respond to this story, they must be already dead.

It takes the issues head on and makes one realize that we are all people born into circumstances, whether good or bad, that we have no control over. This film makes us realize that the privileged are merely that way because of the way the dice rolled.

Kudos to the cast and crew for creating this timely and important message with goal of bringing ever more needed awareness to this issue.

Heartbreaking wake up call for the reality and cruelty of the world we currently live in. This movie moves hearts and speaks more than any words would. It is a call for human compassion and understanding.

Thought provoking film about broken immigration system
cressmanmusic3 March 2021
Collisions is a thought-provoking film about our troubled immigration system. Many here don't realized that those of us who aren't descendants of slaves, are descendants of people fleeing other lands hundreds of years ago for reasons of violence or persecution in search of a better life. This story shows the difficult journey that many face today for the same reasons. Beautiful and natural acting, great and stark images contribute to a story that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. A must-see.

Very timely and moving movie
miltonsmalldogplay2 March 2021
This movie scratches the surface of the insanity that is the current ICE deportation program, the horror that far too many children have to go through, and the heart wrenching dilemma too many people have to deal with in this day and age. The actors are very well cast (amazing performances by the mother and daughter characters). This is a small movie that more people need to see.
