Cyber crime part is just narrated poorly.

Warning: Spoilers
Well, as a person who is in the business of computer security, I must say that those people who rushed to conclude this event to be a sabotage from former employee are not quite convincing, especially the one who talks about "source code." I know many "hitech" companies which manage their development environment very badly.

Scratching the surface

Which is not something you got when registering at Ashley Madison I reckon. Seriously though: I had heard as many of something happening back then, but I hadn't heard of the website before and never really looked into it. So while I understand that some may find this unsatisfying (just like the website apparently) or inconclusive, but it does quite a bit with the few minutes running time it has.

It does shed some light on what was going on and we get a couple of opinions of people involved or were affected by the website. Not the in-depth look some may have hoped for, but does enough to shed light on a controversial issue. I guess the rest can be found on the internet ...

Just a bad documentary
reginagazr6 July 2017
"Ashley Madison: sex, lies and cyber attacks" if full of narrative flaws, and footage that gives little to no help at all in the retail of the facts. With uninteresting opinions of guests a lack of order in the telling of the situation, and an uncomfortable aesthetic, "Ashley Madison..." ends up being unclever documentary that fails as well in the transmission of an opinion.

"i've got an idea, lets do a AM doc...how? umm I dunno

Warning: Spoilers
How amazing could a serious deep dive into the whole Ashley Madison documentary be? Affairs, broken families, scandals, hacking, the overnight destruction of a multimillion dollar company! How hard could that be?? Guaranteed success.

Apparently not.

This documentary chose to use actors instead of actual users, which is understandable obviously, but they are the first let down. Its clearly over the top, caricature acting. The montage of the husband doing "i'm stressed" poses did it for me.

But okay, lets put that aside as perhaps an unavoidable outcome. The content should be good right? No, not really.

They spent the majority of the time talking about the users and their reasons, people trying to justify it, their marketing techniques etc.

The real story is the hacking, the reality of the site and how it was a con to get money from desperate men (as women weren't really on the site), the actual hacker and the fall out. This was covered sort of. They definitely included the drama surrounding it, but no actual real information. And this was at the back end of the series. I actually thought there would be another episode to explore this to discover i was 10 minutes out from the end of the last episode...

This is a compelling subject, but a terribly executed series.

biased and poorly done

Let's discuss a few things about this: they fail to mention that pretty much all dating apps do the same thing - provide a venue for dating and affairs. Ashley Madison was simply open about it. All dating apps have more women than men on them, and AM is not any different. Why, if that is the case, did they focus on mainly men? Why did they focus on the idea of extramarital affairs etc. When the real issue was the hack and the reason behind it.

Basically, it is a highly biased and poorly put together 'documentary' that they want to use to portray the evil of AM, while failing to really do any real research into the overall online dating world. Frankly, the entire hack was clearly someone wanted to take down AM, they were, and still are, quite successful (I have no affiliation with AM). They should have looked at the hack and the social engineering component in more detail. They have discussed how, it may have had a positive impact on relationships (as was said in one interview - there is a difference between sex and love)... overall it was clear from the onset there was an agenda.
