The documentary shows clearly how Merkel managed to come to power and stay there. Outwardly the inconspicuous, but underneath an ice-cold poker player - is there a better poker face than that of a gray mouse? We make it. She is the opposite of a dazzling person, so slick that she seems to effortlessly squirm out of the focus of the paparazzi cameras. After her fourth (!) And last chancellorship, she will probably find herself on the sidelines of history faster than any previous chancellor.

It's nice when I can use the title and just put it as summary like. Yes Angela Merkel did seem unexpected. She herself had quite a few things happening to her .. unexpectedly. And this documentary shines a light on those things and many more things that occured.

How did Merkel become the most powerful woman in Germany? And obviously being at the helm, she's above men too. Which some do not take lightly. What I do like about this documentary is, that it does show and reflect from many sides. At 90 minutes it is quite a feat to feature so much information and still not just be informative but also entertaining to a degree.

Right now with Corona you could do a different kind of movie. But this is not about the pandemic, it is not about what you may think of her personally. This is about her rise to power ... archival material and interviews paint a picture of her and of Germany to a degree.

While she has and will be critisized for many things, this documentary may show a human side to her that many may not have seen. May not want to see either. It's easier to dismiss a person, if you dehumanize that individual. That does not mean she was always right ... a really well done documentary! If you are open minded and are interested to have a closer look, I can highly recommend this!
