Spy noir modern
BandSAboutMovies28 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When a team of scientists on the verge of a medical breakthrough suddenly are killed, two agents come together to protect the last surviving scientist while trying to learn why these murders have happened. Seriously, these enemy agents mean business, because this starts with one of them meeting his girlfriend's family, who he immediately slaughters.

Director Thomas D. Moser usually specializes in special effects, which comes in quite handy here, as this movie has some decent effects. This is kind of what I imagine the pharmaceutical industry is really like, to be honest.

For some reason, this movie is in black and white, despite being set in modern times. I don't. Think that will take away from your enjoyment of this.

Barely worth it if you can tolerate or remove the camera shake
bjackson-739-45055222 July 2021
First let's get the worst part over with. The nausea and seizure inducing severe camera shake made my watching this directly from a stream absolutely intolerable. As I really wanted to see this film, I had to capture and save the stream. Once run through a strong de-shake video filter I was actually able to concentrate on the story line, acting, character development, and etc. For the most part the acting was on the low side of average. I found Jennifer J's portrayal of the lead character Jessica Tucker a little lacking at times but this could be from below par writing in spots. Character development for the main players was actually fairly decent for the most part. Story line was your basic Cancer Research Conspiracy Theory with some action and intrigue. This was shot in B & W, I guess to add to the artistic merit, and frankly, I don't think it made much difference.

Overall, once I got rid of most of the horrific camera shake I found this movie on the low side of average 4-4.5. Worth a watch but definitely not a keeper. That's my humble opinion.

Conspiracy Theories About Big Pharma
lavatch22 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
While "Double Blind" was clearly a low-budget project, there was nonetheless some talent and creativity on the part of the film artists.

The film uses the genre of thriller to explore a dastardly conspiracy involving big pharma. A small biotech research group has discovered a miraculous treatment for cancer, and the two biggest pharmaceutical companies are vying to acquire the new drug. One of the companies attempt to steal it, and the other attempts to sabotage it. It was not a pretty picture of big pharma.

It was not clear why the film was shot in black-and-white other than budgetary concerns. But one problem was the often static use of the camera and the preponderance of close-ups. The camera could have been trusted more completely with medium and long shots for greater variety and aesthetic sensibility.

The best character developments were the two intel agents, Jessica Tucker and John Smith. There was good banter and a quirky connection between the partners. There was also thoughtful connection developed between Jessica and her dad, also an obsessive intel officer. Above all, the film was successful in developing dramatic tension and unraveling the conspiracy to place money and greed above humanitarian concerns. This was an ironic message for a film that was released on the cusp of the pandemic.

Not really worth it, just too much bad.
jimmaclachlan111 August 2021
The plot isn't bad & I liked the end, but the acting isn't very good. The star, Jennifer Jarrett, is terrible. Much of the time that can be ignored since she's supposed to be emotionally distant, but then she tries to show emotion & it's horrible. The action scenes aren't very good either. Some are passable & a couple of early ones are just chilling, but mostly they look like actors faking action. I don't really care for movies being made all in B&W. I guess it's supposed to be retro & artsy, but that's all I saw until I was a teenager. I LIKE color. Still, I wound up not even noticing it eventually & managed to watch the whole movie. Overall, I'd suggest skipping this unless you really need something to pass the time.

Double blind almost has vision!!
jude-8503624 September 2022
Double Blind starts out as very intriguing mystery centered around pharmaceutical companies..actually, I think they can make a lot more movies using that subject. Because of that. I consider the story itself to be very original. I do think the black and white cinematography is really cool and for the most part I would recommend this movie. But I stopped watching it eventually because I cannot handle the language. In just a very few minutes the lead law officials had used God's name in vain and Jesus name in vain so many times all I can think is the writer has extreme hatred for the Christian religion. So I do say it's a good movie ,I guess if you don't care how they talk about God and Jesus then you might enjoy it...It's actually got some good qualities I will be honest and fair.. it just didn't quite have the vision I was looking for Steven Kramer.

Has a score because there was a good story
joemccormickinsurance5 January 2024
I am three quarters into this movie wishing I just had the book to read.

Let's talk what's palatable: Action scenes and special effects. Actually liked the black and white filming...because in color more flaws would have stood out. Continuity was solid. Story was interesting enough to watch until the end. Screenplay wasn't as corny as it could have been.

The bad: Actors and their characters, just plain rock bottom. I wanted to kill the female agent myself...she was an alien, devoid of human qualities. The score was stolen from a funeral home parlor. The killer was NOT believable...at all...I'm reminded of a McDonalds manager.
