Maybe It's All The Disco
bobcobb30130 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Marc Maron and Alison Brie's characters do have strong chemistry, that has been apparent since the first episode and they could make something as huge as an abortion come off as comedic.

Unfortunately, almost all of the roller skating stuff and things with Sheila's birthday were a bit underwhelming.

One reason someone would have an abortion.
hockeytown1110 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Great episode involving breaking the reclusive Sheila the She-Wolf out of her shell by having a birthday party for her at a roller rink, but more importantly for Ruth's decision to have an abortion after finding out she was pregnant.

The last guy she had sex with was Debbie's husband, Mark. Therefore here's the other options; she could've kept the kid, which would've prevented her from working and would've created more problems with her attempts to repair her friendship with Debbie and Debbie's attempt to repair her marriage with Mark. The other option would've been to try to continue to work with the pregnancy and run the risk of miscarrying it, which would not be something people would want to witness, especially after Melrose faked one in a previous episode as a joke, which didn't go over well with Cherry, who had one prior to the series.

This is just one of those reasons, for better or worse and whether you're pro-choice or pro-life, that a woman would have an abortion. It hurts to watch Ruth have to go through it, but I understand.

Drama outside the ring
Mr-Fusion30 August 2017
I was on board with a lot of this, up until a certain plot point. As usual, some nice interactions among the supporting cast, the disco party for Sheila was a well-deserved injection of humor, and even an awkward dinner between estranged lovers seemed to work.

But that pregnancy twist was way too soap opera.

That said, the moments between Alison Brie and Marc Maron are natural and go a long way towards excusing such a misstep.

IMDb's Top Summaries Contain Spoilers, So Why Can't We?
TheFearmakers2 November 2019
I don't get why IMDb doesn't want reviewers to spoil the episode, but on top of the page they spoil the entire episode. We all know what happens, and yet if I say it here, it has to be marked Spoiler. Strange. Anyhow, abortions are just so easy in television shows and movies, and this is one of the lesser episodes, too much melodrama. Kind of filler. All about Sheila's birthday, and she means close to nothing.

Loved this show until this episode

Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand why producers/writers did this. Was it to support their politics?

Up until this episode GLOW had basically been a comedy with a little drama here and there. There was a great concept, great character development, and it was truly funny.

I felt like even that small amount of drama was there to support the comedy. But putting in an unplanned pregnancy which is ended introduces a topic that is fiercely debated and just isn't funny. It's the opposite - it's depressing. And for the life of me, I don't see what value it added to the show other than making a political point in a show that isn't about ideology.

I'm sure the producers/writers felt righteous making this episode but in the future I'm going to do a little research as to whether a show pushes an agenda other than entertainment.
