Harrowing, ominous but essential viewing. For anyone that thinks nuclear weapons are justifiable – watch this.

The documentary tells the story of Kazakhstan's efforts to remove itself from the continued threat of nuclear weapons and the results of their use and testing. Kazakhstan found itself following its departure from the Soviet Union with an unwanted legacy following 456 nuclear tests in the Kazakh steppes. The villagers of the region became the forgotten victims of the Soviet tests. From such terrible despair comes hope for a nuclear weapon free world.

The story is told by a number of Kazakh individuals who have taken their artistic skills to vent their anger at what became of the area and its people. The film rejoices in the power of human spirit as victims struggle to survive in the region.

It beggars belief that anyone could still want the weapons that caused this generations-lasting destruction.
