The movie starts out decent enough. You get the feeling it is actually going somewhere and it's a very brief but nice glimpse into the world of Dungeons and Dragons. I thought that's what this film would focus on, instead it focuses on a pathological liar, lifetime alcoholic (since age 13-14 I believe and drug addict). It completely switches gears after the first 15-20 minutes and focuses solely on a delusion man, his drinking, hangovers, and other self-sabotages...
He lies about his backstory and just about everything else coming from his mouth is also a lie. I felt frustrated and at the same time a bit sad that he is living in this fantasy world, where he truly believes he is some genius, creating (with the help of a professional team who know what they are actually doing) these landscapes and character models (which do look great) but no one wants to buy them... He invested way too much money into something, with blind confidence, thinking he would make it rich...
well no one was buying his over-confidence and thick-headed approach OR any of the actually nice looking products... if he wasn't such a d-bag, they could have made it work, but I don't even know if he wanted it to work, I almost feel like this whole thing was one GIANT publicity stunt because he is sort of a loner, sad individual in his 40s with no friends, no partner, just his fantasies which he cannot separate from reality... just like no one was buying his bullshit lies.
I couldn't tell if the "friends" or acquaintances he had speak on his behalf about his genius and creativity were not just paid actors, it seemed so fake and scripted. I honestly believe this man has a personality and or mood disorder and needs some help, but first he needs to check into detox for his alcoholism, which I believe just fuels his delusions of grandeur.
I'm upset that this movie was all about him, him, him. I never interviewed his staff in depth or showed them working for extended periods, it just showed him, strutting around, like "this is my company, I'm a big shot, I can order people around, I have the power I have been craving."
It's just painful to watch. I highly recommend skipping this one, unless you are interested in the psychology of a pathological liar, delusional alcoholic, and a very sad, sad man. I honestly feel bad for the man and hope he gets help, at the same time I feel even worse for anyone who had to sit through this film.
Rating: 0 out of 10. There just is no direction, no point, no conclusion, NO DAMN STORY!!! how does the movie have such good reviews? I joked with my friend that he must have paid off the review sites, because we could not understand how anyone could enjoy this...
Watch only if this is the only movie left on earth, otherwise burn, destroy and scatter the remains. This is one movie that I cannot NOT recommend enough! Good day!
