Scooby is going to inherit something
ctyankee128 October 2015
There were no stars to rate this episode. I would have rated it a 7 or 8.

The gang is going to a mansion on a mountain and the mansion looks scary. The mansions owner's Will is going to be read The late Colonel Lutz is leaving something to Scooby Doo who he believed saved his life. A number of relatives are at the house for the reading of the Will too. They all have to spend a night in the mansion first. One of the relative thinks he is a cat and crawls around and climbs a tree. There is also a set of twin girls.

A phantom is on the loose in the mansion. Daphne thinks it is a game and does not take the seriousness of what is going on. She tries to guess why Shaggy is so scared and makes a game out of it. It is not funny and does not make sense. Scooby is always the hero. Shaggy accuses Scooby of never rescuing him. Shaggy and Scooby are funny and Scooby saves Shaggy again.

The phantom is neon green with skeleton bone for hand and red eyes and mouth. There also is a secret passage in the house. The series is not bad. It is funny in a different way.

This is on for a half hour but there is at lease 10 minutes of advertisement. It is not often that they break for commercials but the last one was from 6:47 PM til 6:51 I counted 14 short commercials McDonald's, Phlast Ball, Mega Blocks, Froggles, FireTek Bow and more one right after the other.. This was not the first break for commercials.

So I wish the sponsors would make the episode longer and put less commercials on.

"A Night of Fright is No Delight" revamped
TheLittleSongbird13 September 2022
Despite being a massive Scooby Doo fan for goodness knows how long, expectations were somehow not high for 'Be Cool Scooby Doo' prior to giving it a chance. The advertising in my mind was terrible and the animation style, one of the franchise's least appealing, was very off putting. Still gave it a chance as a fan of the franchise and of animation in general and there are films and shows that have bad advertising but turn out to be good and this was one of them.

"Where There's a Will, There's a Wraith" is essentially a modern reworking of 'Scooby Doo: Where are You's' "A Night of Fright is No Delight", for me one of the best episodes of that show and a franchise classic. While not quite as amazing or as iconic, this is still extremely good and one of the best and funniest episodes of 'Be Cool Scooby Doo'. Also second only to "Area 51 Adjacent" up to this point of the show. Really loved how "Where There's a Will, There's a Wraith" captured what worked so brilliantly in "A Night of Fright is No Delight" while also putting its own fresh quirky spin on it and the haunted house mystery formula.

The animation never really did anything for me in 'Be Cool Scooby Doo' and, with the exception of the villains, "Where There's a Will, There's a Wraith" doesn't do very much to change my mind. Especially the weird and off model character animation and it has always looked rushed to me. More scenes from "A Night of Fright is No Delight", except redone, would have been more welcome too.

So much is great however. The story is a great mix of old and new, maintaining the original's creepiness while mixing it with the cool quirkiness of 'Be Cool Scooby Doo' expertly. The house is a suitably creepy location made good use of. Loved the redesign of the phantoms, still incredibly scary but also very cool, very like the phantoms themselves in personality. The skeletal arms were a great touch.

Furthermore, "Where There's a Will, There's a Wraith" is one of the funniest episodes up to this point. Not just the jumping on Velma's back and the humorous twists on why Scooby is a beneficiary and the outcome, but also a few priceless lines from Daphne's. The handle this as adults at a slumber party line is one of my favourite ever lines of Daphne's in the entire franchise.

The music has quirky energy and atmosphere that doesn't jar. The theme song is suitably upbeat, even if it is a little on the short side. The character writing is spot on as is the interaction between the gang. Daphne's refreshingly quirky personality has been something of a revelation and shows how far she's come. Scooby and Shaggy are delightful as usual, and Velma doesn't come over as too bossy and Fred not too wet. The supporting characters are a colourful bunch, the phantoms of course being very memorable but the cat person was very enjoyable as well. The voice acting is without issue.

In conclusion, great. 9/10.

How To Ruin A Classic Scooby Mystery
jeremycrimsonfox20 June 2019
Yeah, this is another episode of the infamous Be Cool, Scooby-Doo I do not like. The episode has Scooby and the gang go to the Lutz Manor because Scooby is getting an inheritance from William Lutz, because the Great Dane saved his life in the past. However, the gang has to spend the night in his mansion, which is being haunted by a phantom.

So, basically, this is a reimagining of A Night Of Fright Is No Delight, an episode from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You, only for this series, they made the episode horrible. Daphne is stupid here trying to treat this mystery like a slumber party, donning pajamas and even braces for the occasion. Also, Shaggy is mad at Scooby for saving the colonel, until Scooby reveals the truth of the rescue, which was horrible. Also, the episode had some stupid ideas for guest characters, like Ruby and Trudy, twins who finish each other's sentences (which is creepy) and Kenneth, a cousin who dresses and acts like a cat (which is too weird for Scooby-Doo, even if it's done for comedy). This episode is basically garbage, and is nothing more than the show ruining a classic episode to get old school Scooby fans complaining so they can get more viewers to watch the show (hey, it worked with Teen Titans Go!). If you want a good reimagining of A Night Of Fright Is No Delight, I recommend watching Scoobynatural, the Supernatural episode.

This reboot doesn't deserve to be defended. Whoever does, You can't be serious.

CN's Be Cool Scooby-Doo is basically the equivalent of Fox's Bordertown, and you know that is not a good thing at all. Be Cool is our beloved mystery inc gang acting like the idiots from Jersey Shore. So not only is the premise somewhat like Bordertown, it has to also be very generic in every way. The characters on this show are flatter than a piece of paper. Daphne comes off as very annoying. The one shot characters themselves are the worst and have uninspired personalities to them. One is a strict rich man, another is cranky elder, one is always moody, there is one who is always hyper, and a hippo like fat guy. Even the good guys and side characters in this show are bland and have no personalities to them. The good ones is a disgrace and not helpful in the least bit. His father forbids him for being in a band. I wish I was making this up. The cartoon is another GoAnimate nightmare and while I have seen worst, it still looks awful. The characters have terrible designs, the sets are uninteresting and are way too colorful, and the animation for the GoAnimate styleis very stiff. The plots are weak, but some of them are OK and are passable, but at least there is some creativity to them even if there was very little to them. The humor in this show is wretched. They try to do gags or jokes that come off awkward and are really stupid, and I never smirked or even had a funny thought when I saw this show. I can gladly say the only good thing in this show was that it lasted only 2 seasons before getting the ax. If you want a show wanting to be Family Guy, go see Paradise PD instead.
