A Really Solid Episode,
lesleyharris3012 August 2017
22 for 30 is a terrific Simpsons episode with a very well written plot and a ton of very funny scenes. This has to be one of the most groundbreaking Simpsons episodes in a long time, having a documentary type style to tell the story of Bart as he makes it as a basketball star across Springfield. I love the simplicity of the story, in which it is in no way convoluted, but the biography set up blows it out of proportion, convincing us, as an audience, that these events are far more significant than they actually are.

I was a little disappointed by the writers for not maintaining the documentary style for the entire episode, it cut out on several occasions, just bringing it in to a regular show. I would have much preferred if it was there from beginning to end, similarly to the eleventh seasons Behind the Laughter, one of my favourite episodes.

I really admire this episode for not following the usual Simpsons formula that we have seen an awful lot of this season, in which all the beats are quite similar. I understand the writers know what works, but it is interesting to see the show taking a different direction. It conveys Bart's journey immensely well, and by the end of it, we feel as if we have sat through far more than just twenty minutes of television.

A great, well developed show. Funny and engaging, 22 for 30 is certainly a highlight of the 28th season.

Bart goes from slacker to basketball star, but things go awry when he gets involved with the mafia.

Excellent!

Warning: Spoilers
22 for 30 is, perhaps, the best episode in this pleasant season 28, even better than Friends and Family, The Town, Pork and Burns and A Father's Watch.

Begins with a very cute couch gag, at doodle style. Poses a novel and interesting plot, that involves intelligently at Homer, Bart, Lisa and a few secondary characters. It's presented in a flawless documentary format. Spends a clever satire at 30 for 30, with a nostalgic compilation of the best sports moments of the series. Gives a great Dragon Ball's reference (King Kamehameha). Makes a short, but good use to the guest star, Stephen Curry...

Also, this episode has truly memorable scenes or, at least, funny. Star treatment, "I need a place to spend the night" (Bob Jhonson), "They have more records than Dolly Parton" (Krusty), "Basketball is nothing like life" (D'amico), "Homer gained 12 pounds" (Marge), Johnny Tightlips refused to talk, and "Can you give me the name of that secret shrink you see?" (Louie), among others.

However, the best scene of this episode is "Show business is everyone's business" (search in Youtube). Is, without a doubt, one of the best moment of this season, of this series.

For many years of The Simpsons.

Pros And Cons Of 22 For 30
snorlax311198412 March 2017
Pros: 1. I liked the couch gag, except for the unfunny eye injury at the end.

2. This episode definitely had a lot of fun with the style of 30 For 30 documentaries. The cast and crew has obviously seen a lot of 30 For 30 documentaries and they do good gags with how 30 For 30 films look and feel.

3. Johnny Tight-Lips has always been my favorite Springfield mobster and here he's just as awesome as always.

4. Stephen Curry may not have appeared long but he spilled coffee on Seymour Skinner so what more could you want from him?

5. Bart getting hit by his own teammate was an amusing reminder of the classic "Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air" moment where Carlton stole the ball from Will Smith for a disastrous attempt at winning a high school basketball game.

6. Lisa takes a fair amount of abuse in this episode and that's okay by me.

7. I liked Lisa's joke about how nobody watches documentaries unless they are about rich men who may have committed murders. I know they are referring to a different documentary but to me it served as a funny reference to the Oscar-Winning "OJ Made In America"

8. It's for the best that Krusty deleted the Dan Quayle jokes. I doubt he could top the Quayle jokes that Tiny Toon Adventures did.

9. Best Line Homer: You're no better than anyone else... except Milhouse.

Cons 1. The biggest issue I had with the story is that I just didn't find it very funny or interesting. Being a parody of 30 For 30, they have fun with story-telling techniques but the story itself is just lame.

2. I'm sure others found Maggie hitting Bart to be funny, I just thought it was lame.

3. I never laugh at Homer strangling Bart so his extended strangling in one scene was not appreciated by me.

4. I'm sure there are real life sports analyzers who talk and act like the angry African- American analyst but I just found him annoying.

5. As for the scene of Bart spinning a basketball on his johnson, well, Timmy Turner said it best: no amount of therapy will ever make this moment okay.

A missed opportunity
santifersan1 February 2023
In the episode of "The Simpsons," "22 for 30," I was unfortunately left with a sense of disappointment. Throughout the entire episode, I felt completely lost and disconnected from the plot. The jokes and references just didn't seem to land and I was left feeling confused and unsatisfied.

One of the biggest problems with the episode is that it lacked clarity. The plot was jumbled and confusing, making it difficult to follow along and fully understand what was happening. This resulted in a lack of connection to the characters and their stories, which is usually a strength of the show.

Additionally, the humor in the episode fell flat for me. The jokes felt forced and unoriginal, lacking the sharp wit and satire that "The Simpsons" is known for. The show has had its ups and downs over the years, but this episode was a real low point for me.
