Picking up the pieces
Mr-Fusion15 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Fourth season opens strong as the preceding finale's fallout is addressed . . .

. . . which means Paige is still dealing with knowing her parents are spies (clearly the clock's ticking for Pastor Tim); Martha is devastated by the news of Gene's "suicide"' and Stan goes ballistic when he thinks Philip is nailing his ex; all the while, Philip and Elizabeth mule a lethal pathogen for the Center.

Last season didn't end all flowers and sunshine and this one's opening no differently; just a simmering pot rather than explosive, but a great way to kick off the season.

Compelling start to the forth series

The Jennings become involved in the development of biological weapons.

This is a strong start to the forth series that picks up where the previous series finale left off.

The plot doesn't start with the same murderous intent as the opening episodes of the past two series but the extreme danger associated with what Phillip and Elizabeth are assigned to acquire makes the espionage plot very high stake. With the truths that were revealed at the end of series 3, the dynamics amongst many of the characters have changed and become very compelling.

As always it is very well written, mixing story with great character development. I liked how the plot McGuffin works as a visual metaphor for the hidden truths about the main protagonists.

The cinematography and editing is as strong as ever, whilst performances are all excellent. Alison Wright is absolutely brilliant in this episode.

For me it's an 8.5/10 but I always round upwards.
