What's so disconcerting about the film is how it flips the traditional voyeur scenario on its head.

Warning: Spoilers
"Boudoir," written and directed by Gina Lee Ronhovde, is a visually haunting and darkly funny piece that blurs the line between photographer and subject, and instills in the viewer a deep sense of unease. What's so disconcerting about the film is how it flips the traditional voyeur scenario on its head, portraying the photographer (and, by extension, the audience) as frightened innocent and the subject as predatory instigator. Ronhovde plays with perspective to impressive effect, putting the audience in the head space of the photographer for a shoot that is quickly devolving out of her control. Using quick, nearly subliminal cuts, Ronhovde quickly establishes doubt as to what is real, conveying the madness and confusion felt by the photographer and making the aggressive model feel threatening on a nearly otherworldly level. However, not satisfied to merely flip the traditional roles of the scenario, Ronhovde blurs things further with an unexpected reveal that makes it impossible to distinguish between aggressor and victim. It's Ronvovde's unique and tense visual style that really makes the film a fun, albeit disconcerting experience.

This is a brilliant short film

This is a brilliant short film. In the short running time there is a lot of implied back story. It reminded Me in certain shots of the Italian Giallo films of the 1970s. The use of red definitely brought to mind Argento. It also has elements of Michael Powell's classic Peeping Tom. Watching it a second time I appreciated everything about the film more, especially Dominique Swain's performance. The cinematography was superb. Writing was excellent. The direction was brilliant. It stands up to comparison with a lot of bigger budget films, such as American Mary (which is one of My favourite films). It is a brilliant example of how to get the most from the short film format. Gina Lee Ronhovde is certainly one to watch and I hope She has every success in the future. Which on this showing she deserves. Well done to everyone involved
