Ridiculous storytelling with failed dramatic moments.

"Just Another Normal Day" made me curious to if Hillary Clinton ever played basketball with foreigners to get them to trust her. If that sounds like a ridiculous question, then you're right, it is but Elizabeth McCord did this past week on "Madam Secretary". The title of the newest "Madam Secretary" episode, "Just Another Normal Day", suggest something of dangerous territory. (The basketball scene as referenced above supports the misdirection of storytelling.) The show is trying so fervently to make Elizabeth relatable, but anyone doing a job of that level should not be relatable easily to the common folk. If the secretary of state is relatable, then she's doing something wrong. Tea Leoni is doing an acceptable job at grounding Elizabeth, even through the show's difficulty at defining its characters. (Most of the other actors have no clue what they are doing, most notably Bebe Neuwirth this week.) "Madam Secretary" tries very hard to create hard-hitting dramatic moments, but those moments feel like sprinkling rain instead of dense raindrops.
