Exclusive: Sarah Podemski (Reservation Dogs) and Rosa Blasi (The Thundermans) have signed on to star alongside Andrew Dice Clay and Jordan Johnson-Hinds in Quiver Distribution’s basketball drama Warrior Strong, which Shane Belcourt (Red Rover) is directing from Dan Gordon’s (Wyatt Earp) script.
The film currently in production in Canada centers on basketball protege and egocentric Bilal Irving (Johnson-Hinds), who is asked by school principal Jules (Podemski) to serve as the assistant coach of his former high school team, the Dumont Warriors, alongside Coach Avery Schmidt (Clay). Bilal subsequently learns that true coaching involves far more than simply teaching the game. The question is, will this rag-tag team of misfits have what it takes to put aside their differences and become Warrior Strong?
Blasi will play Vicki, who runs the local diner and slowly helps Coach Schmidt out of grieving for his deceased wife, prompting him to move on with a new relationship.

Sterlin Harjo is wrapping up edits on the final two episodes of Reservation Dogs‘ second season from his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In an era of remote working, that shouldn’t sound significant. And yet his FX comedy is the first TV series to film entirely in the state — one of several firsts, as it also marks the scripted serial debut from the prolific indie filmmaker and the first all-Indigenous writers room in TV history.
The show, a coming-of-age tale of four teens on a rural reservation co-created by Harjo and longtime friend (and Oscar winner) Taika Waititi, has been a watershed moment for Indigenous representation in front of and behind the camera. It’s also just a hit. Reservation Dogs‘ first season landed on dozens of critics’ “Best of 2021” lists, including that of THR‘s Daniel Fienberg, and the challenge of duplicating...

Fresh off his Gotham Award win for breakthrough series, “Reservation Dogs” co-creator Sterlin Harjo is developing a new miniseries with a Native female lead at FX.
The untitled series will see Harjo direct, as well as co-write with bestselling novelist Jonathan Lee. Harjo will also executive produce with Garrett Basch, through the latter’s new label Dive.
While plot details are under wraps, the title is described as a heist thriller centered around a Native woman.
“Reservation Dogs,” co-created with Oscar winner Taika Waititi, represented a notable hit this year as an FX on Hulu exclusive. Shot entirely on location in Oklahoma, it boasted an entirely Indigenous group of writers and directors, and spotlighted an almost-entirely Indigenous North American cast and production team. The show was just renewed for a second season.

When Hollywood decides to make movies about Native people, it's not often that they turn to the Native community for their input. But what makes the upcoming indie drama "Mekko" stand out, is that it's a film made about the Native American community by a Native American director and cast. And today, we're unveiling the exclusive trailer for the film. Sterlin Harjo writes and directs the film that centers on Mekko, a homeless Native American parolee in Tulsa, Oklahoma who is adjusting to life on the outside after two decades behind bars. However, after a tragic series of events, Mekko dedicates himself to a quest for revenge which he believes will cleanse the sickness from this collective of marginalized individuals and perhaps atone for the sins that landed him in jail so many years ago. And as you'll see in the trailer below, Harjo has put together a distinct and atmospheric picture.
