Still Funny But...
MamadNobari9713 February 2024
Obviously not as funny as the show's peak. These past couple of seasons have had this feeling of being scripted and forced for a while now and unfortunately, this season doesn't seem to be any different.

But at the same time, I still found these first two episodes funny, and the second one more than the first. So I'm not complaining that much. I'm glad to have more Curb in my life since it's been so long since we got more new episodes. And I'm happy that Larry is actually maybe giving the show a proper conclusion instead of just announcing the show will not get any new seasons.

Anyway, the episode structures do have the same feeling as how the show has always been, with setups and payoffs in each episode. And surprisingly one payoff to the last episode's setup of Jeff's hair dye that I thought was weird they mentioned it without following up on it in the last episode. But it does come together nicely for the Lawn Jockey plotline to happen. But I think as funny as the Lawn Jockey joke is, it's kinda the most predictable thing to do and it's weird to have it be the joke payoff they're focusing on. But I guess it ties to his plea in the hearing.

Overall I think this is all gonna come together and become a much bigger thing than this and a lot funnier. I just think that the main plots of the episodes aren't as memorable or interesting as they should be and they're pretty much predictable and not as hilarious as the situations Larry got himself into in the older seasons. I just wish they toned down the scripting and the phoniness for the last season and did it the usual way with the improvs that felt way more organic and funny.

Y'all are missing the point- best show ever!
ldodge-1604619 February 2024
I am laughing at the bad reviews here, this show is making fun of itself making fun of everything! Lighten up people! It's a show! I didn't get this show when it first came on air...at first, now I love it so much! It makes me laugh so hard. No one is forcing you to watch this very low brow comedy! The acting is fantastic and I love the fact that most of it is improvised. I would be laughing in almost scene because it's so absurd and funny. The absurdity of every plot is so hilarious. Just wondering what are people missing here? The whole lawn jockey is so timely to everyone ! Just watch and don't think too deeply as you laugh!

Oh the South...
zgwilson15 February 2024
Larry has spent way too much time in LA. The constant trope that every southerner is a racist imbecile imitating Larry the cable guy is exhausting. Yawn. Besides the ignorance, the political pandering has reached an all-time high. Shocking, the NY/LA native worth half of a billion dollars thinks he's a voice for the common man. As great as this show was, it has now become a medium for condescending democrats to pepper you with lazy jokes.

All of this said, the style and flow of the season has held up and provides a few laughs here and there. David is taking a well-deserved victory lap to round out his incredible career.

Could have been funny

I'm not sure why comedy has to include politics? What happened to Larry David making fun of common problems or common social norms? Once you bring politics into it, now people have to take sides. Politics aren't funny. And politics don't stand true over time. Seinfeld will be funny for decades because it's nonsense. If it made fun of politics during the late 80s it wouldn't make sense now. Politics isolate people. It's really a shame, I wanted to like this new season. Shame, Larry David, shame. I'm disappointed and also I have to type a certain amount of characters so I'll just keep saying shame.

Just not funny anymore
nietzsche_is_dead14 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
What can I say...this was marginally better than the previous episode but it just isn't funny anymore. What made CYE different from all other such shows was the overarching plot that all came together by the end of the episode to bite Larry's behind and how every little seemingly unrelated thing and person in that episode just came together culminating into the disaster that Larry often faced. Remember the Swan episode? Or the Doll episode? Or the one where the therapist ends up being arrested? Lmao. It still blows my mind as to how Larry could come up with such insanely connected plots. Sadly, that is simply missing now entirely. Now it all seems forced.

No, my taste hasn't changed. I can immediately go back to watch the early seasons and find them just as funny and genius in their plot as I did 15/10/5/4/3/2/1 year(s) ago.

All good things must come to an end and in this particular case that should have happened two seasons ago.

Here we go!

Okay, here we go! Much better than the last episode. That one felt very forced with not so funny story lines. This one had really funny/wacky situations that you normally get from Curb. Not one of the all time great ones, but it felt natural and didn't feel forced. I am totally okay with these episodes.

I hope this was just a rough start and not what the whole season is going to be like. I get what Larry is trying to do, he's trying to recreate the last episode of Seinfeld. I wonder how he'll do it. Like him, I think the ending was genius, so we'll see how he does it here.

The Bruce Springsteen cameo was very funny by the way.

Another dud....i'd be more surprised if we have a good episode at this point
varnellseth12 February 2024
Obviously, the quality has been steadily declining, but this season is a new low. Hard to even muster a laugh. Better than the first episode, but nowhere near even the weakest of episodes pre-season 11.

Trying to shoe horn in these political narratives at every opportunity is annoying. Regardless of whatever you believe, compared to how he presented his political views in earlier seasons - the biggest issue is that these jokes aren't funny. Even the MAGA crowd thought the bit with the hat in season 10 was hysterical because there was a truth to it that everyone could laugh at. These new attempts at political commentary are not only unfunny, but they're unoriginal and very niche. Like the Giuliani "joke"? That happened over 3 years ago and was a relatively obscure event. Just a weird punchline to spend so much effort building up to.

Also stupid how these first 2 episodes are ending on cliff hangers. The whole plot of the show is lost.

Overall, while this was still definitely better than the premiere, this was another subpar episode.

The Lawn Jockey

Warning: Spoilers
Just like Family Guy, we have someone who is a comedy legend but now has to force their political views down your throat.

It is not the end of the world, we can still watch the show even if we disagree with what Larry thinks, but the bigger issue is that this is just not funny.

Repeating old Seinfeld bits, a dumbed down Larry, Jeff contributing absolutely nothing to the show, this is just not the same Curb.

We are going to have Larry go to jail in the end, that is really how this show is going to wrap up?

Also, Larry spending $650 to use the bathroom and make an employee feel good is not rational.

Awful...
darryl-johnson16 February 2024
The only way to improve this season is to cancel the show. Nothing's funny and with this episode there was no surprise as to what was going to happen with Larry and a rather offensive lawn decoration.

How did it get so bad? Larry David should have ended the show two seasons ago however I can imagine the checks coming from HBO most be pretty, pretty, pretty good.

At the very least they can cut JB Smoove's character any time... He adds less than nothing now. The whole premise of him freeloading off Larry ceased being funny long ago.

Susie Essman's character has been partially neutered - the bombastic cussfest she used to throw at Larry are tired and without any grit to them.

Maybe she's tired and is simply going through the motions... The whole cast had sunk to all time lows of seeming disinterested in the witty improv 'CYE' was known for.

I'm probably done with watching any more episodes.

Excellent

Warning: Spoilers
The melting lawn jockey along with melting Jeff was comedic gold. Susie standoffs with the trumpet fanfare are simply the best. It's best to view and compare actual melting Giuliani photos to appreciate this the most.

I had a hard time believing this barbaric no water at the polls law exists (plainly designed to disenfranchise voters) and it's good the show drew attention to it.

Another good comedic line: 'my sister the devout racist'.

Larry always does well with religion themes as in the classic breaking-up-the-baptism episode.

Now I have the urge to do an actual lawn jockey census by state :)
