A Reality Competition Show That May Have Promise
atlasmb12 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Only one episode of Summer Camp has aired, so it is difficult to evaluate the show. But there are some observations that can be made.

First, Summer Camp is a reality-competition show. Think Big Brother outdoors. As is typical, one competitor is eliminated each week. The teams are aligned men vs. women. The eventual winner will take home $250,000.

The producers have tried to differentiate this show from others of this genre. Each week there is a Colors Competition. The losing team's "Camp Counselor" or captain, nominates two teammates for possible elimination. The opposing team picks which one leaves and which one stays, but first they have the opportunity to talk to the two candidates.

If a candidate wants to stay in the game, he/she may try to appear weak to the other team. OR he/she may try to make a deal with that team. This happened in the first episode; one candidate said that if they chose her, she would throw competitions and, in effect, work for the men's team. This is a twist that really makes this game different from others. Can such a traitor really jeopardize his/her team and not be discovered? Should a traitor reveal their status to his/her teammates and use it against the opposing team? If cross-team alliances form, and surely they will, might a traitor be compromised by someone of either team? There are many levels of deception possible, and this may prove to be the backbone of this competition.

Since the competition is men vs. women, the social game will be closely watched by all. The inevitable hookups will be seen as direct threats by teammates. Will the teams disintegrate?
