Casting director and director deserve an award.

OMG! The actress that played young Miss Scarlet and the actor that played young Duke were great.

I would like ( the entire series is superlative) to focus on the actress that played the young Miss Scarlet. She was outstanding. I was so impressed. She definitely studied the mannerisms of Miss Scarlet and performed to the nth degree. The casting director, director and writers all should receive awards for this episode alone.

Focusing on the casting director: It takes amazing skill to interview and study those auditioning for those roles. To ferret out the weed from the chaff is of the utmost importance. I cannot say enough how I was impressed.

Kudos to your whole team.

Well done
hazangel-8991022 January 2024
This was such a well done episode. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It has made up for the disappointing third season.

It was wonderful seeing Eliza and the Duke's origin story. The casting for both of them was spot on. The Duke's younger self was extremely believable. Not only did they look alike but they sounded similar as well. The chemistry was undeniable. Eliza's mischievous and curious nature was done perfectly! I cant say enough about the episode. Of course her father was excellent as a detective and a support system.

I truly loved every bit of this episode. I hope the quality continues into further episodes.

I've been waiting for this and I never knew I was...

Easily to me one of the best episodes of this always delightful series. The young man playing the Duke I thought was spot on. At times I wondered if they'd somehow regressed his age. But no, just great acting. Not just the voice, but his eyebrows, his mouth, et al. Whoever played Eliza did a good job too, just lacked some of the finer details of the older Eliza. The case was slim, but it wasn't about that, just about the two of them, and it was wonderful to see Ivy back then, and to meet her father. It made her determination to succeed at a man's job in a man's world that much more filled out. Bravo!

One of the best episodes of the series

The younger actors playing Eliza & The Duke nailed their performances. Great to get William's backstory and how surprising it was.

Also loved seeing Mr. Scarlet in action prior to his days as a police detective for Scotland Yard.

Hope that another opportunity may arise to visit this past life as it definitely was a plus in a season that's been lagging a little without the tension and variety of characters in season 3.

I'm really missing Solomon this season as he was a great antihero and I always enjoyed when he and Duke were in thee same room.

This episode brought back some of season ones spark and Great performances by all.

pilot for a prequel
kyrenaika22 January 2024
So here you have a pilot within a show for season 5: the prequel series, much in the spirit of when Barney Miller piloted Fish and Happy Days piloted Mork & Mindy and Joan & Chachi. Very popular device in the 70s and they're bringing it back. Either the actors are going on to other things or they want too much money and they can get other actors for a dime on the dollar. You love the characters, so you'll love them when they were younger and they can shoehorn in every 2024 talking point making the rounds like every other show on the airwaves and interwebs. It already has enough of those, but why not more? It's been a winning formula so far. Or so they tell themselves. If it's the same writers, it could stand a chance. If not, thpht!

Plotholes in story line come together
AniJunky26 May 2024
Although a likable series and this episode has an interesting plot, two things in this flash back episode clash with the current story line:

1) In the first series Eliza and William act as if they have never met before. Complete strangers to each other.

2) the original Duke as in the title makes a reappearance after being out of the series since season 2; the original Duke was the financial benefactor for Miss Scarlet in the first series.

It was really odd when the inspector was addressed three times in a short time near Scotland Yard as "the Duke" in an episode; as if every one knew his nick name and always addresses him with that nick name.

Wish they did not make those stupid changes, make you cringe, really annoying,
