Disappointing ending
zjqsyymjx25 July 2023
The show was good. I look forward to episodes coming out. I actually quite enjoyed watching it, and it felt more authentic than other reality tv shows. It was very unfair throughout the whole thing which maybe they wanted I dunno but it didn't feel right to me. Also they were never going to win $1,000,000! I was so confused at the end and then realised how much of a joke it was. Those poor players thinking they had a chance at 1 million when in reality they barely had a chance to win a quarter of a million. The last 'challenge' came down to luck, it's a joke. The worst ending of a show I've ever seen, truly. Wouldn't waste my time if I knew this at the start.

Such a thrilling exciting reality series
diandraferreira15 June 2023
I love this show and I hate reality tv.. so many interesting strong people with interesting stories.. some players scare me and you really end up hating the personality of certain characters but it is enjoyable to watch.. the challenges are just wonderful you really don't know what's going to happen or who's going to win and the come backs are mind blowing and it's really exciting to see who decides to give up and go home. Such brave strong people on the island and I enjoy this show. Can't wait for next casting.. my partner will be applying for a spot.. this is very entertaining and fun to watch.

Imitation of Survivor.
Husskade28 July 2023
A good or bad imitation ? Well I started off quite keen on this but the gloss faded fairly quickly.

Other reviewers have detailed the main premise of the show and how, over time the prize becomes smaller ...shares not a Million. (That's okay if you know from the off that that is what's happening...not the initial impression given) For me a major irritation from virtually the beginning (second episode) was that it was clear who would end up in the final because they'd skewed the play so that the highest 'earner' was immune from play. It also became clear that food would become an issue and control/ownership of it certainty revealed some people for who they are.

On a personal viewing level there was one player who is probably the most objectionable contestant I've ever seen in a reality survivor type show.

And as a viewer, if they decide to do it again get rid of Ant Middleton...he is dreadful he just hasn't got the charisma or skills to voice over a game show like this. His other show demanded very little from him but in this one his gaps showed. In fact they need to re jig the constant and repetitive stream of words from both Ant and the contestants...it was the same thing over, over and over again. Possible it's because the people competing weren't articulate or interesting enough to fill the time. They certainly lacked the strategic skills they could have used...except for the production rigging of the play.

And the final game...(contestants looking suddenly showered, brushed and in freshly ironed clothes) well, the final game required luck. Just luck..And do we really have to hear over and over again why they want the money... I'd love to say I'd enjoyed the series...all I can say is it's okay. I've actually had the last episode saved to watch for several weeks because it's so frustrating to watch but curiosity won out.

But as I'm watching it and writing...I have to repeat their last game is luck...luck...and that is so poor after everything that's gone before.

So it's a series that starts with a bang and ends on a decided whimper.

Should have been called $200,000 Island
dennis-ray725 July 2023
What a joke the finale was no one was ever gonna win $1000000 not even close such a terrible way to finish the series. The whole show was building to a climax and gave the illusion that you could win $1000000 how disappointed contestants must have been at the end to give up so much of their time and a suffer so much for such a ridiculous prize at the end it was very hard to watch and certainly would they have a watch the series again after such a terrible anti-climax the sad thing is it could have been so much better it was obviously all geared to save money at the contestants expense what a joke.

Horribly misleading....
NullUnit28 July 2023
For the most part I was liking this up to the final episode.

It had some slight flavors of Survivor, although not quite. CLEARLY everyone had access to clean water for bathing, etc. At no point did anyone look like they had been on an island surviving for a month or more.

The VERY disappointing aspect was the finale. They should have changed the name of the show to "Million Dollar Offer Island". Because there was NO WAY anyone was EVER going to walk away with a million dollars. It was just not possible based on the finale.

And oh how horribly boring the finale was... like an extended episode of Deal or No Deal... don't open the wrong case - I mean box.

Started strong.. but based on the finale, I'd be hard pressed to watch any additional season unless they make it clear the end challenge has been changed and someone WILL end up with a million.... rather than the $100K.

Ended up being "$200k Island". I bet the producers were happy they saved so much money.

Renewing Survivor
UppittyDown19 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Edited and downgrading rating having watched to the end.

Initially I wrote that Million Dollar Island is fresh and unexpected. It was, and I enjoyed it.

But now I'm eating my words, the final was an immense disappointment, aside from that awful character losing most of his cash.

Anticlimax to put these people through such challenges, social dynamics etc only to basically flip a coin to win anything.

It was always advertised as a 'share' in one million. But to finish like that was a huge disappointment, at least they should have won a share each challenge if they were too tight for larger sums.

Wannabe Survivor - massive fail
zpvjwzyg27 June 2023
This show is awful. Too many contestants, you don't really care about anyone on there. Most people getting airtime are just straight up unlikable, I'm not sure what casting process they followed here but there is nothing interesting about any of the contestants. Majority are either cocky for no apparent reason, have a sob story or just dull. I don't care who wins or gets voted off, I don't even know anyone's name.

The show's episodes are too long, repetitive and boring. Editing is drawn out and not making this interesting to watch. There's literally nothing good about this show. Pay the viewers a million dollars to compensate for this rubbish!

Takes reality shows to a new low
sales-7125410 July 2023
Absolutly rubbish a whole tribe just moaned and expected other people to feed them, rather than going and getting food. The characters getting air time are terrible especially Karla she is so dishonest and just whinges.

The concept could have been good but the editing and players are shockingly boring and the show is way to long for rhe content they show could have been half and hour max. There was 100 players but we have seen maybe 20 and with the show being so long there has been plenty of time to show the other contestants, not just the couple the show decided to feature, all of who are still there, shock horror.

Million Dollar Scam
sduvauchelle2 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I started to watch this show on replay because it was "Survivor-esque"(even though i don't watch Survivor anymore since it jumped the sharks a long time ago... anyway). The premise seemed intriguing, and i wanted to see how having 100 contestants would play out.

I'm not gonna lie, i fast-forwarded a bunch of confessionals, because a lot of characters were just obnoxious, and the host was meh at best.

The most annoying thing was the scam they played on the contestants (and the viewers of course). They went from "One player will win $1Million" to "Contestants are playing for a share of $1Million".

When the host annonced that only the Final 3 players would win money and have a share of the Million, i still thought there would be a final challenge.

A challenge where the Finalists, depending on the results, would have the option to play it decent and keep the amount reprented by all the bracelets they had. Or play it backstab-ey and make a play to steal their fellow finalists's bracelets for example.

That way one player could have ended up winning $1M... or have the option at least. Something like that...I dunno.

That final challenge could have been a skill challenge, or a trivia on how well the finalists knew their departed fellow castmates for example. It would have made sense, since the host kept repeating " in this game relationships could bring you fortunes".

So, you win that Final challenge and you can decide that everybody keep their share, or you decide to be a di*k and steal the two others finalists's money...

I honestly thought the season would end up this way, or have a variation of that kind of ending. Maybe not the best one, but at least it would have been WAAAAY more interesting that that "Deal Or No Deal" garbage ending that only showed how cheap and scammy the network/producers were.

Good luck finding 100 contestants for Season 2 after the shameless scam/complete joke that was Season 1. But judging by the TV ratings, a Season 2 seems unlikely...

this is garbarge

This is the same old trash that this channel keep throwing at us these days. This is not entertaining. It's a waste of time. Viewers don't want this. It's time to make better stuff than this trash. The show is a headache. It's like people don't know what they are doing anymore. They should make better shows than this. This show is not going to last long. Make something interesting that is fun to watch and enjoy. Is there nothing original on TV in today's world? It's time for change. Channel 7 keeps making this? Why? They should try something else and do something original, not the same thing they've done 100 times before.

Same formula
peter-p-scherr13 June 2023
There's nothing 'new'or 'revolutionary' in what Channel 7 claims is a 'social experiment where the rules of society don't exist. A bold claim and as usual for these types of shows, utterly untrue.

'The rules of society don't exist?? Sign me up! However if you're thinking this is a real life Squid Game you're in for a major disappointment. This is a cheap bland clone of the American show, with that guy from SAS (which was at least moderately entertaining) looking completely out of place and giving encouragement to a large bunch of randoms looking to win money by emulating trials from Survivor.

Perhaps it's Sevens answer than that God-awful 'Summit' in which a bunch of egotistical randoms compete to win an ever diminishing cash prize all whilst being harrassed by a possessed helicopter. Except this has a few more shirtless buff guys and scantily clad young women.

Whoever writes this garbage should fear the advent of AI scriptwriting. Put your brain into neutral if you're watching this rubbish because it's just a vehicle to fill in the space between ads.

Million Dollar Bingo.
moremantemple20 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This series was such a rip-off. Investing in this series series was a waste of time. When you get to the finale you discover it's basically a gamble where the house wins. There was NEVER a million dollars being given away. It came down to being the luck of a lottery, the producers banking on the contestants folding after a certain point due to risk. It was an impossibility of winning even the amount they collected in wrist bands. This show was deceptive and manipulative. I feel sorry for the 100 people who were conned into doing the challenges on this third rate Surviver clone. The show was never honest from the beginning about prize money. It's another example of how cheap games shows are in Australia, where they promise a lot and deliver very little. I wish I had been smart enough to stop watching this series like the majority of viewers after the first couple of episodes, instead of watching it till the last limp sad and dishonest ending. The other issue with this production was the Englishman Ant who host the series. He has the personality of his name sake. Dull, no charisma and miss cast. Again, Australian reality TV keeps importing ordinary overseas talent instead of employing an Australian.

Warning: Spoilers
I think the contestants should go on strike they didn't win 1 million.

Like that's the name of the programe then give people 200k.

And the games are ridiculous difficult. I don't complain normally but this thing is just ridiculous
